We need to talk about Sydie Peck

Thing is he actively harms us by slowing the play down, we can't afford to have a player like him in the side.

Counting the days down until Tom Davies returns.

I am wondering if there is a statistic out there on the most attempts on goal, before a player's actually scores their first goal.

He was actually marginally better today but we don't look like creating much either way.
Looks a better player than Matos who looks another poor signing.

Young lad who had the luxury of Souza Davis n Choudray around him previously he’s a good young player but isn’t a driving box to box one yet he was certainly better than Matos today
Think we need a three matos Soumare and Peck so maybe a change to 3 at the back will help

I've been holding off for a long while but I've finally come to the conclusion that he's fucking shite.

The only good news for him is that he's still just turned 21 and has many years to improve.

How does a young player go through all those years in the academy, playing as a midfielder, make it to professional level, and is not able to strike the ball correctly? I find it unbelievable. Used to think exactly the same about McBurnie

He always made himself available. Never hid

Unlike others on the pitch yesterday

It was his best performance of the season but that mainly because he’s previously been so poor.

Played more advanced, constantly showing for the ball and constant sideways passing…..but that was the same last season.
Think Peck is great at playing a keep possession game but even last season he failed to score a single goal and doesn’t create chances either.
His strength is being available to receive the ball and passing it to someone with more quality and ability to create chances.
The issue is that Mattos was pretty good regards ball winning, workrate and much needed pace but he didn’t have enough quality to create anything,

But peck doesn’t do anything!
Side to side backwards passing, doesn’t create doesn’t score
What does he do??
But he won’t get dropped because he’s a favourite.

Peck was fine when he had Souza alongside him. He looks lost otherwise.

Soumare may be the answer but he doesn't appear to be under consideration much at the moment.

I know wilder had mentioned pecks confidence and jokingly said the lad thinks he should be playing for Real Madrid.

I think there’s a disconnect in lads mentality between what he believes his abilities are and the reality. He is egotistically (down to experience) too slow in possession, and because of this, as demonstrated yesterday gets caught in possession, an easy pass back to an unmarked screaming for the ball tanganga or let me invite a duel so I can attempt to take on the opponent in a deep area of the field.

He will no doubt become a good player, and he his through no fault of his own the best fit now, but when Chong, Arblaster and Tom Davies are up to speed, he needs dropping. Because in life, It’s when you start thinking you’re good that you make poor decisions.

I've read pages and pages of this but to take it back a bit, please is there anyone who regularly watched him in the under 21s who can remind/tell us what sort of player he actually is?

Because as far as I can remember, he scored a good few, made plenty and was generally a free kick taking, classy playmaker sort, is that right?

Unless I've completely got the wrong end of the stick, he's basically a Michael Tonge who we're playing as a Nick Montgomery. I know folk loved it when he put in the odd crunching challenge last season but they were basically Paul Scholes challenges...the sort of tackles put in by someone who can't tackle.

He got by on 'lad points' last year but if he is being played out of role, then the management are to blame for him becoming a scapegoat when I'm not sure we've seen him play yet. For such a young player he'll soon lose his identity and what made him succeed too if we're not careful.

That s what I’ve said…he was the same last year but most thought he was great.

What he is great at and he did show it yesterday was running towards the ball and making himself available for the pass, then he’d pass it sideways or backwards in order to keep possession.

It keeps the control of the game ticking along but you need creative players along side him because even last year Peck never scored and hardly has many assists either.

A poor man's Nick Montgomery.

And even Monty scored occasionally.
