We need to talk about Sydie Peck

Peck's being sold down the river in this formation with Hamer and O'Hare either side of him. He was pretty good alongside Souza or Davies in a more standard 4231.

He's good at most things besides putting the ball in the net which, unless you've got Nick Montgomery in the side, you'd expect some sort of contribution from your midfield.

Peck's performance and the performance of the team as a whole boils down to the system not fitting the players and trying to make the players fit the system, which is clearly not working.

Until RS sees this and decides to change it, I can't see much different happening, short of signing N'Golo Kante to play centre mid for us.

I just watched the first half back upto the goal and Peck did ok for the most part...got his head on 4 or 5 balls in front of the back line, retained possession apart from one 50/50,played in Gus on the right, but it came to nothing...maybe could have dealt with the goal scorer better,he got blind sided but looks offside and a couple of passes went backwards when maybe could have taken more of a risk.
I think the main problem and i'm not writing him off, but Cannon...and he wasn't the only culprit, unfortunatly lost the ball on the right on numerous occsions which broke down attacks, and we never really threatened down the right until Sericki came on.

We need to do something about our midfield as we continue to leave ourselves too open. A few situations just from the first half vs Millwall, showing how advanced Hamer and O'Hare get, leaving Peck pretty much on his own.

I also think that it's a problem that three of our defenders are rather slow. A slow defence will often drop deep to avoid space in behind them, meaning Peck, the poor sod, have far too much space to cover.

Yes,it's asking a lot of Peck, too much ground to cover and needs more help.
Maybe Soumare would solve the problem, but it means pushing O'Hare further forward and maybe play Hamer/PeckSoumare and pushing O'Hare further forward on the right,or change to 4231 with Peck and Soumare as the 2.
On the defenders,i think he's trying to address the higher line slightly with the likes of Godfrey,as we need quicker defenders or as you said, they tend to compensate by dropping deeper.

4-2-3-1 with Soumare and Peck, Hamer advanced and O'Hare on the right didn't work too well at Swansea... Frustrating to see a team that is decent on paper struggle so much.

I thought Soumare looked promising though, plus gives us a bit more height and physicality.
Yes,it's been frustrating.
