We need someone to play the McGoldrick role.

Didsy was a master at dropping into midfield and setting up play. I know Illiman drops in sometimes but he is not the answer. McBurnie tries it but neither of them come close to doing what Didsy was capable of. We played much better when we had that option but the team we play leaves us short of the connection between midfield and attack.
Could Norwood do more in an attacking sense?

Funnily enough our most fluid and attractive football recently was towards the end of last season with no recognised striker but berge, ndiaye & gibbs-white rotating at will. it unsettled the opposition and was effective. at that point i'd have said ndiaye could drop deeper and still could but you'd take away the goal threat from him. equally as tuesday proved the modus operandi is more conservative than wilderball so even if didsy was here he wouldn't be allowed to play that role. our only chance of promotion is to remain tight and conservative, which goes against the grain of what you suggest. that's not to say i wouldn't welcome it from an entertainment perspective!!

It's not a Norwood role imo, he does what he does very well the majority of the time. if he did it more consistently and quicker he'd be playing for city. he's not pirlo.

I think that is Ndiayes best position, number 10. He drops reasonably deep as it is to pick up the ball leaving McB on his own. If we played Jebbo or Sharp with McB with Illiman pulling the strings behind and feeding balls through we'd be more dangerous.

Ndiaye at times drops deep but mostly to win the ball back not in a dictate the play way Didzy did. Of the players we have maybe Berge would be able to do it best? But mcgoldrick was a one off. You don't see many players doing it.

We have the players for a very decent 4231, but we just don't try anything else at all

You can't be serious, Illiman N'Diaye is a direct upgrade on didzy.
You need a centre forward doing the hard battling stuff in order to give N'Diaye a platform from which to be the heart of our attacking play.

The team rightly revolves around the biggest talent this club has produced in decades.

They got rid of one that could do that / Duffy role .. Khadra

We should never have let him go. Instead we have Berge and Brewster.
In retrospect letting him go was the wrong decision. He’s having a great season at Derby and not been out injured much as far as I can see. However at the time I thought it was the correct decision and I don’t recall hearing any of the supporters disagreeing.

I'd have kept Didzy for another season.
I got the impression though that given his injuries last season there was concern and think management thought that with McBurnie fit, Iliman, Sharp, Brewster and then the two young-uns in Osula and Jebbo we had enough. And I can see the point.

Unfortunately we have had injuries to all of the above aside from Iliman. Brewster is on track to play less than 40 games in the space of 2 years.

And McGoldrick has been doing the business for Derby. Always said this but if he could finish like say Sharp consistently he would have played most of his trade in Prem.
It's the only side of his game that let him down, the level of consistent finishing. I say consistent because he can score ridiculously good finishes, but miss easy ones.

Didzy would,ve been a good backup, but we just didn,t expect the sniper having fielddays. With most fit Didzy wouldn,t feature much. Remember we missed out on the no 10 that signed for Rangers late in the Window.

For me I'm thinking Coulabily could be a possibility in the Didsy roll.
On the couple of occasions that I've seen him play he seems to be able to look after the ball and has an eye for a thru ball pass, as well as been quite tenacious.
Also after the one he missed against Spurs, he seems to have Didsys conversion rate too.

Didsy was a wonderful player I’m not too sure that he’d be as successful in a league above we all know how bad the Pub league was.

End of the day, we weren't in a position to pay someone 15-20k per week to sit on the bench 'just in case'.

We couldn't have legislated for Brewster to be out most of the season and for others to be so prone to accident.

Spending 1m as insurance when your insurance policy is a guy who himself is working back from injury just wouldn't have made sense at the time.

Would he be useful to have around now? Absolutely. But that's with a lot of foresight that wouldn't have been available in the summer.

Wasn't it a mutual decision rather than us "letting him go"? He wanted regular first-team football and at the time we couldn't guarantee that.

Was about to say, it's a very conceited (borderline arrogant) position to take. I'm sure Hecky couldn't give him the assurances he was looking for at this stage of his career so it was mainly Didsy's decision to exit stage left.

Pretty sure him playing every game, being the main man and playing at a lower standard is giving is just what he needed; as opposed to warming the bench for here most weeks.

I don't know if it was an option considered probably not as above most posts agreeing that allowed to leave to guarantee first time football. I won't deny this being a today made idea rather one at the time. But we could have signed him on a one year deal and loaned him with wages paid for say by Derby, yes very risky as if he doesn't get fit he returns with a burden on your wage budget but if he finds the form and is fit a simple loan recall and you have an experienced pro that slots straight in your side like he has never left
