We need someone to play the McGoldrick role.

Being slightly mischievous, but there's a case to say we'd have gotten more out of him than Berge, Brewster and McBurnie combined...

Tin hat firmly on from all the Rolls Royce, McPub fan boys..
We could have guessed he’d be shit and ineffective though, injured or not it’s the same outcome.

I used to groan when Mcburnie was picked but now,his first touch is top drawer and his hold up play, passing and movement is unrecognisable from seasons past.

In retrospect letting him go was the wrong decision. He’s having a great season at Derby and not been out injured much as far as I can see. However at the time I thought it was the correct decision and I don’t recall hearing any of the supporters disagreeing.
Agreed, imagine the meltdown in August if we gave him another year and didn't sign Khadra....especially if he'd end up spending an extended period out injured. Easy to say its the wrong decision with hindsight but there was no outcry when he left. Also worth remembering he is playing at a lower standard.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but we should have looked at Akpom from boro when he was frozen out, boro would have given him away and would have made mcgoldrick look more like Nade

No outcry when he left , i was moaning like a bitch on here saying it was the wrong decision , Heckys biggest bollock dropped is how i put it and others were agreeing , anyone who who knows anything about football should have said KEEP HIM FOR ANOTHER YEAR !

It was the right decision to let him go, at the time. It's fine equating his leaving with Khadra coming but equate it with McAtee instead, who is a more similar kind of player (neither are particularly similar).

If we hadn't had an injury crisis, he'd have been a bench warmer, at best.

As we had an injury crisis, I would have expected him to be one of the injured.

He's doing great in League 1 but so was Jebbo. It's a much lower standard. He's a player who needs to play regularly in order to stay fit and play well. You don't play him and Ndiaye on a regular basis. He was largely ineffective last season coming off the bench. If my memory serves me correctly, the reason he left was because we couldn't guarantee him regular football.

horses for courses an ageing but experienced McGoldrick is thriving against forest green and cheltenham and cambridge

but Derby are off the pace as he isnt shining v top 8 clubs . ipswich plymouth barnsley

getting shot was the right move , same for Sharp he looks slower by the game the short hop to Doncaster would have him looking good again

I was one calling for him to stay, not because I thought he'd rip the league a new one or even be a starter very often, but just because we didn't have a full compliment of fit, capable strikers. We still don't.

Is it ok to say McGoldrick was great for us but he was past his best and not up to the standard we require so it was best for all involved if he was moved/allowed to move on? or are we just going to gloss over how below par he was in his final year in particular? I'm glad he's doing well and he will always be a blades legend but let's not pretend he would be doing a job for us now when he couldn't do the job for us last season
