A question to anyone who attended the Lane back when it was a Cricket/Football ground, did they let people sit/stand/congregate on the pavilion then to watch the match? Surely that had to be the worst view in the football league? It was miles away!
I bet its closer than the Top Tier at OT

75-76 was indeed bizzare. After we were relegated with 13 points from 36 games (2 points for a win then), our record being P36 W2 D9 L25, in our last 6 games we had the record P6 W4 D1 L1 pts 9 - in other words we got over 40% of our points that season from thise last 6 games!
Including a memorable win at Elland Road which did their title chasing hopes no good what so ever.

Boy I did enjoy that :)

I said that last week but you got more likes than I got!

Yeah, that's what I meant.

I asked Walth Snr once what went wrong that season. "God knows" he replied "All you could do was get blind drunk and block it all out".
TC said in the papers before the start of the 1975-76 season that we would be "the surprise team of the season". He was right but for the wrong reasons! Even Shoot! Summer special in 1975 had a feature with the headline "Sheffield United- Championship Challengers?". Many of the players (Badger, Hemsley, Colquhoun, Dearden and Eddy) were not as good as they were in the previous season. Bradford, Garbett and Field were average players. TC looked heavier than he was (when he joined L**ds, Jimmy Armfield ordered him to lose weight). Only Woodward and Brown were playing well

It might not mean owt, but I think 75/76 was the first season with the South Stand. Watching that old YTV video it seems like a totally different ground, different atmosphere.
Yes, BDTBL seemed to be a darker place when the tv cameras were in the South Stand gantry. Before that, the tv cameras were in a scaffolding on the cricket area where there was more light

v Aston Villa in 4th round of the FA Cup in Jan 1965? Silence will be for Churchill? If so, we lost 2-0 and Keith Kettleborough was sent off

Good goal by Woodward which startled keeper David Harvey. I was behind that goal. There were some fighting near me and a big ginger lad wearing a Celtic top was taken out of the ground by several policemen

Strange I remember this match because it's the first time I saw a player get sent off. (Players being dismissed in those days were not as frequent as today.) What I cannot recall was the minutes silence and yet I remember things about Churchill dying and his funeral.

Yes - I remember it was full when we beat Cardiff 5-1 to go up in 1971. Attendance was 42,963
I was one of those in the pavilion for that match, but my eyes were in better condition back then.

My dad bought tickets for the whole family for the Watford match in the Bramall Lane stand before the kick off.Said we'd probably be the only ones there if we lost to Cardiff.

Can't ever remember it being opened for footie.

Course it was. You could wander round to stand on the Bramall Lane end if you wanted. As others have said, the Cardiff match in 1971 had a fair crowd around there as the kop was absolutely packed.

Before the South Stand was built, Yorkshire Television used to put a scaffold up - all of about 20 feet high - to hold the cameras. The YTV gear used to be brought in old furniture vans which, before the game, were parked out of the way in side-streets so it wouldn't affect the crowd.

Aah. Keith Macklin. Buying a video of the match highlights...

I know you could walk from one end of the ground to the other but I can't remember there being access into the pavilion.

Think I only did the walk about three times, always seemed to much hassle trying to get the regular spot back on the Kop.
I'm sure it was when we'd lost the toss.
