We only ever seem to play well in short spells, when playing well is a struggle rather than the talent coming naturally, then something is not right. play-offs at best this season, reading showed us how to play football in the first half today, MOVEMENT OFF THE BALL, which we most certainly are lacking in is a problem for me, also stokes and quinn just arnt doing it.

cant remember much of the first goal, but the second, cant remember who was marking him, but to let doyle get across you and down to head it like that isnt good enough!

cotterill needs to be given a chance, and not just a oh you havent played well in this half so your out again for the next 6 weeks!

far to much of our play is geared towards beattie, its a team game, and the play should not be so centred around him.

just a few of my opinions, sorry to bore you!

I have to agree with the majority of that. The second goal should have been easily defended, especially at the front post.

I don't agree about the Cotteril thing, he should be given a chance from the subs bench to show that he is good enough. Halford deserves to be in there infront of him in my opinion.

In comparison to Reading we are some distance behind but i dare say that so are all of the teams in this league and some in the league above.

I have seen Reading on a fair few occasions over the past 4 years or so and each time i see them they look a class act; i was very surprised and very disappointed when they were relegated last year.

The best team won today and i thought we were well beaten but i'm not too down beat because i see us as a work in progress and we have come a long way in the past 12 months.

Chin up blades :-)

We are good enough. Some of the time, anyway. Our main problem is that we are not consistent. We always seem to have one good half and one crap half per match.

PMA............new hotel, England game at BDTBL........thats it !

Just shows how far the Blades are behind a Reading team that hardly got out of 2nd gear. What the fuck is wrong at BDTBL ?

But we didn't even get out of neutral :D

Well one thing is for sure we are not good enough for Automatic promotion. Thats going to Brummy and Reading.

Today we showed how incosistant we really are and to be honest in the 2nd half we could of easily had 3 goals and didnt take any of them.

But had we scored those chances, a lot of this debate wouldn't be going on. So surely the "way we play" is working?

I think the main problem we have is scoring. We were doing it for fun at the beginning of the season but the 4-3-3 which should be attacking doesn't seem to lend itself to us scoring lots of goals.

Some of the offsides yesterday were iffy, but some weren't. This is a simple thing the forwards continue to do and all it does it hand the possession back to the opposition.

I think we're good enough for automatic promotion still...Haven't Reading hammered just about everyone they've played?

Reading are head and shoulders above everyone in this league in my opinion, i include brum in that statement too.

We were on the wrong end of a similar result / performance against them in the season that we were promoted to the prem so that shows the result is not a pre-cursor for our final position.

We are still a work in progress in my opinion but i have to admit that i thought we would give a better account of ourselves yesterday.

Having watched the goal on SSN, its just shocking, really shocking.

The 1st comes from a throw in, where we have 3 players at the thrower, he give it to Doyle, who just leaves those 3 players behind him and out of the game, then creates a goal. Shocking, its school boy defending.

2nd is just a simple near post ball in, should never concede from set pieces.

We bottled it today for me, i thought we would have kept it as it was for the last 6/7 matches and went straight at them.

We did not do anything like that, we pretty much beat ourselves.

Not good enough, us and Reading were fighting for that second place spot, and we aren;t good enough? None of this was being sad last week when we was un-beaten in how many? Besides, it is Reading, they can be off form and completely walk all over a team, they're just a very very strong side.

I think that the original post was alluding to the fact that the game against Reading was a good opportunity to see how we are shaping up against one of the top sides in the league.

The truth is that we are a long way behind Reading but i am hopeful that we can continue to make progress this season and perhaps sneak into the play-offs.

i just think that the fans look at us with the red and white specs on, blackwell claims we are a footballing side, but if you watch whats going on off the ball in matches, the movement off the ball is shocking, which is a key part to playing good football.

naughton is the only player with good movement, but thats because he his a cut above the rest!

I share your frustration and i dare say the majority of fans do too but i am seeing some slow progress in terms of our approach to the game; the operative word here being SLOW.

Watching Reading on Saturday made me wonder why we, having spent a fair amount more then them over the past 5 years or so, cannot move the ball about anywhere near as effectively as they do. It seems like a long time since I was genuinely impressed with our style of play (Kendall era probably) and I suppose the only explanation is that our coaching has not been up to scratch since Kendall left.

That is not a dig at Blackie as I do see us as a work in progress and I have seen an improvement in recent weeks; perhaps the game against reading came a bit too early for us.

Plenty out there for an ambitious club like the Blades.

One step forward two back = the Blades Way, Warnock - F100p0 - Blackie next one's a winner ;)

True Wolves will be a real test of how good we are at the moment.

If we wern't good enough we wouldn't be 4th in the table.
We are good enough for where we want to be but we can be and have the players to get us to that point.

On any one day we are good enough to win thisleague, however we are not consistant enough at the moment. I have missed a few games this season and what I have seen has by and large shown flashes of real promise but not consitantly.

I don't think we are good enough to compete with the top 3.

But i think we are better than the rest of the average teams, this is how i see the League;

Sides with quality, don't see these 3 dropping from where they are.

1 Wolverhampton 18 8 0 1 21 8 6 1 2 20 16 17 43
2 Birmingham 18 7 0 2 12 5 4 4 1 13 10 10 37

3 Reading 18 7 1 1 25 6 3 2 4 14 12 21 33

The more consistent of the average clubs, but None of us will challenge for the automatic spots

4 Sheff Utd 18 5 3 1 12 4 4 1 4 13 9 12 31
5 Burnley 18 5 3 1 12 7 3 3 3 11 14 2 30
6 Cardiff 18 5 2 2 14 9 2 5 2 8 8 5 28

7 Plymouth 18 4 2 3 14 11 4 2 3 9 10 2 28
8 Ipswich 18 4 3 2 14 8 3 3 3 12 9 9 27
9 Swansea 18 4 4 1 17 9 3 2 4 9 14 3 27

Not much better than the bottom set of clubs but these have a little bit more quality. Very inconsistent though, this lot will beat each other and stay mid table, they won't climb to the top 6 but seem safe from relegation

10 Preston 18 6 0 3 15 12 2 3 4 10 12 1 27
11 Bristol City 18 2 5 2 13 13 4 2 3 9 9 0 25
12 QPR 18 6 1 2 14 8 1 3 5 2 11 -3 25
13 Derby 18 4 3 2 13 8 2 3 4 9 14 0 24
14 Crystal Palace 18 4 3 2 13 7 2 2 5 11 14 3 23
15 Coventry 18 3 2 4 9 11 3 3 3 9 9 -2 23
16 Sheff Wed 18 5 2 2 10 4 1 2 6 7 25 -12 22

Poor sides in a Relegation scrap

17 Barnsley 18 4 2 3 12 8 2 1 6 6 14 -4 21
18 Blackpool 18 2 3 4 10 14 3 3 3 8 11 -7 21
19 Southampton 18 1 3 5 7 12 4 1 4 11 16 -10 19
20 Watford 18 4 2 3 18 15 1 1 7 10 17 -4 18
21 Norwich 17 3 3 3 15 13 1 2 5 5 13 -6 17

22 Charlton 18 3 1 5 14 19 1 3 5 7 12 -10 16
23 Doncaster 18 2 3 4 3 7 1 1 7 5 16 -15 13
24 Nottm Forest 17 1 4 3 6 9 1 2 6 9 18 -12 12

But i think we are better than the rest of the average teams, this is how i see the League;

So basically, your saying the league is going to end more or less the way it currently is?:)

Personally I think we are as good as the position we end the season in! Man Utd are 8 points off top spot and nobody has written off their title challenge, we're 6 points behind 2nd place!!! Nowt is won by November and nowt is lost by November. Unless you're Luton and Bournemouth and then it's lost before you even start ;)

I think we'll finish second if we can get a bit of a run going.

I can't see Wolves staying up there, they never do! Birmingham don't look anything too special either.

And Reading lost against Southampton. Can't be that good! :p
