We are not good enough really

Yep we are not good enough certainly for Automatic promotion.

I wouldn't say that we're not good enough per se; more that we're too inconsistent.

At our best, we're a match for any other team in the league. However, we don't always play at our best, and if we're not on form, we're sometimes very poor indeed.

If we could sort out the inconsistency, we'd be in a far stronger position to challenge for automatic promotion. As it is, if we end up going up through the playoffs, I'll still be happy - Hull have proved that the argument about the playoff winning team being at a disadvantage is flawed.

Not good enough.

Consistancy is key in this league.

Play Offs is all we can hope for now.

Yep your right, its not like there's any points left to play for is it? It's not like Wolves historically go on a Bladesesque snatching defeat from the jaws of victory most seasons.

Did Wolves look particularly better than us? I don't think so personally. They managed to take 3 chances, that was the difference. That and the bounce of the ball and the referee.

I've seen us be battered by far worse Wolves sides, they were no where near as good as people have been saying they are.

They were still clinical enough to stick three past us, and i have seen far, far worse Sheffield United sides over the years beat Wolves.

They were indeed, but do they look streets ahead? with finishing like Saturday, we easily made enough chances to win the game.

My point really is, they aren't as good as people make out and are certainly dodgy at the back... You can't rule out a bad spell from them by any stretch. Just as we need to improve our finishing/consistency they really need to improve their defence or they'll struggle to keep riding their luck.

To say our chances of automatic are over is premature in my opinion, we need to improve yes, but they aren't out of sight.

But they were still good enough to take their chances and we was not, and that is why they are where they are in the league table, and that is why we are where are in the table.

As much as i like your blind optimism about getting automatic promotion Foxy, can you see two of Reading, Wolves and Birmingham going through a really bad spell where they completely and utterly throw away the good start they have made and let us in?

Can you also see us going through the remiander of the season showing championship form and getting enough points to launch a genuine promotion challenge?

If you answer yes then you really do believe it, but at the moment i can't see it happening myself as we seem to follow a good spell with a spell of indifferent results and that is what lets us down.

I can see us making the play offs and i do think we have the makings of a decent side and we could have really made an impact this season but we haven't got enough about us at the minute to push on and i'm seriously fucked off that this season we will make the play offs and that is it

Where did I ever say anything about being optimistic about gaining automatic promotion? I haven't.

All I'm saying is, there are plenty of points to be played for and I think it is premature to write off our chances entirely.

We are 9 points off an automatic promotion place, with another game to come against each of the top 3.

Wolves still have to play Birmingham twice, Reading once and us again.

Reading still have to play Birmingham twice.

They can't both win the games against each other and they aren't guaranteed to carry on the form they have started in. They are also not guaranteed to hold onto their better players in January or stay injury free.

I'm not saying we'll do it, or that its easily possible. I'm merely saying it isn't out of reach with the number of games we have left.

We without a doubt need to improve our consistancy and need to be more clinical. We are 4th in the league though and still in a position where we can kick on and cement a place in the playoffs/push towards the top three.

Would you write off Reading challenging for the title at this stage?

I wouldn't write Reading challenging for the title at this stage but looking at the table there are three sides who are a cut above the rest and we are somewhere between the top three and the rest of the division.

I honestly can't see us getting anywhere near the top three and Birmingham and Reading certianly have strength in depth to be able to lose a couple of players through one reason or another. Wolves are also a country mile ahead of us at the moment.

We lack the consistancy to put together a good enough run now to challenge what is ahead of us and although you may say it is premature to write our chances off and it is not out of reach with the games left, we don't seem able to be consistant enough to go out there and put together a good challenge and whilst we are very stop start, there are teams above us now who are too good, and have too many points on the board for us to realistically be able to catch

None of the teams ahead of us are THAT far in front. But what they do have is the ability to take the chances in front of goal. And also have players spread throughout the 11 who can score. We rely to much on Beattie.

I think not being able to put the ball in the net has been our problem all year really. We haven't particularly been bad at anything else that i can think of.
