Seen a couple of rumours linking us with Michael Tonge for 2m.

Think it will be accepted?

Downpoints for him? Positives for him?

I wish Mowbray will know we dont need any more Midfielders except a DM ( i dont think Tonge players there ) Need center backs ASAP.

Good luck next Season lads.

Shame about battle of Brammel Lane. :shakehead:

Welcome to the forum :)

Tonge had his best season for us about 4 years ago and has only shown flashes of promise since then... I think a new club would give him the kick up the arse he needs to recapture some of his form.

At the moment, he'll pick the ball up in midfield, panic, take about five touches too many, turn around on the spot and then either pass it back to the keeper or be dispossessed.

In the season we went to the Play Off Final, he was constantly running and defenders and taking them on but he seems to have got too comfortable in his position and isn't trying any more.

£2million? We should be snapping your hands off.

With rumours of 4 million being whispered all summer, I doubt there's much in this rumour to be honest.

But even if it was true, I doubt very much that Blackwell would be interested in selling.

Blackie said tonight... on this particular case it "looks like chip paper to me"...

As in... agent/press talk only.

He coached him when he was at his most impressive. I don't see Blackie as being a 'non-hands on' manager either. He knows what a lot of the players can do, Tonge in particular. If he has the key to the padlock, it could be so precious.

Many things said about Tongey may be true, but that isnt one. He certainly doesnt panic when on the ball, watch Monty to see what that is.

I'd read Keenzy's post about the Triple Assault (not my description) season.

I'm with Linz on this one Tonge has become very negative compared to his early days. Even if he's told to work deeper, even when he has the chance he doesn't take people on or shoot.

Many times when he gets the ball he turns back and looks for a backward pass.

A sign of "panic"??

Very worrying.

Have you seen Mr Montgomery this pre-season? Created far more than Mr Tonge, looked more composed on the ball and certainly got forward a lot more. If only Tonge could return to when he used to do the same!

We were in your neck of the woods earlier... Monty has turned into Zidane while he's been injured. Set some right attacks up (United ones at that!) :D

Tonge does literally flap and I stand by my view :)

Michael Tonge has not been the same since the day Michael Brown left Tonge lost his confidence when Browny went it was Gutting to see Browny leave for Spurs but in actual fact it was like losing two players because Tonge has not been the same since he has been very inconsistent to say the least with a slight improvement when Blackie came back to the club.

For me Michael Tonge does not do the basics right for an Attacking midfielder he is not creative enough hence he rarely contributes with assists add to that he rarely scored any goals either which is just not good enough when you are a team chasing promotion to the premiership.

I have nothing against Tonge and would love to see the Michael Tonge of 2002/2003 that was being courted by Liverpool at the time back to them heady days.

The old Michael Tonge of 2002/2003 would take people on for fun and would shoot from all distances & angles since Brown left he has been like a Tortoise hiding in his shell because he very rarely runs at defenders or has a pop at goal hence why his assists & Goals return is very poor for an Attacking Midfielder.

If we had a better replacement lined up to replace Tonge that contributes more Goals and Assists then i would say 2 million is Good business.

Agree with all of that.
