It may not be today but at some point there’ll be a match where it all clicks and we catch a team of guard

If Wilder was in charge, it would be a full bus-parking, Mourinho anti-football style job, containing and hoping for a bundled-in job from a corner or a dodgy penalty.

Slav? His first job is to instill some confidence into a broken team. Hoof it to McBurnie/down channels for Brewster or Burke to chase and bypassing our scarecrow-like midfield might be the order of the day until we get some legs in there, then we might be able to start playing.

We don’t create any chances to take🤣
I mean, simply not true IMO. Granted we didn't make much in the Brum game but at Swansea I'd argue McGoldrick could've had a hattrick in the second half alone. Sharp also put a relatively good headed chance straight at the keeper.

West Brom thoughts ?
Think no further than Calum Robinson & Karlan Grant , both of whom could have easily been in our team.
Along with Ivan Toney.
All of whom have scored league goals this season I think.
Unlike our "plethora of strikers".
If Sky Sports keep referring to our "plethora of strikers" tonight , I will have to turn the sound off or risk harming my own telly.
Come ON Sharp , Didsy , McDaftie , Burkey , Brewster's Millions & Jebbo , I challenge you to stuff my words back down my throat.

Lose by 2 or 3 unfortunately.
Really hoping to see a return to 3 at the back, maybe the 3-5-2 system returning, or a version of it anyway.....?
Why ? It was crap. And we aren’t struggling defensively.

Erm, yes we are, and I'm guessing your theory will be put to the test later.
And,if it was so crap over the past 5yrs, im surprised were not in league 2 now.....

That system went to pot a long time ago along with JOC getting injured and centre backs overlapping no longer happening. Please tell me how we are struggling defensively after conceding 1 in two games.Wilder has gone and Slav doesn’t want the belt and braces approach with a back wall of 5.

0 goals in 2 games suggests otherwise.

That would be where the 3-5-2 comes in then, as it isnt a "back wall of 5" is it.....
And the system only faultered due to the loss of our best defender, one we never replaced.....until Davies arrived!
Now I'm not sure what you've been watching for the past 5 seasons, but, the players have been playing in that formation for a while, and although were all happy fo the new manager to change things, as weve seen, it doesnt work without time and the required players.
Now if we have the players that are used to playing a certain way are all we have available, then play something that resembles that, as we know, currently, were worse with a back 4.
Also, as we play out from the back, and the defence have been instructed NOT to overlap, we have lost almost all our threat from wide positions, as we have NO WINGERS!, which leaves us with 3-4-3, which is fine, we have the players for that, unfortunately though, our strikers currently couldn't hit the floor if they fell over, so which formation do you think will help us beat West Brom???

3-0 WBA

cant see us scoring, I think we’ll have lots of possession in our own half, more passing it square and not getting forward, until we get that midfield sorted we’re gonna struggle against the top 6 teams.

It's quite simple for me - just don't concede.

We need confidence after the last 18 months.

Even if we start slowly it doesn't matter - we must be solid.

Both Norwich and Watford started slowly and built themselves into the season.

Would take a boring 0-0 again ang 3 difficult games out of the way. We then have a number of easier opponents to play. Of course no game is easy, but we should go into the next 6/7/8 games with confidence that every one is 3 points IF we apply ourselves correctly.

Agree entirely and the set up at Swansea with a back four and two holding midfielders was designed for the same purpose and worked extremely well , restricting last years play off finalists to just one serious attempt on goal .

That being the case , I see no good reason why we should abandon that approach for tonight’s game and with a bit more quality up front and playing Bogle wide right instead of Burke , we could well get something out of it .

I think ‘a surfeit of players who play in attack’ would be a more accurate description of the majority of our forwards .

To describe them as strikers is flattering in the extreme in most cases . :)

Would like to see us just go with pace up top especially as we are most likely to get something on the break. Our build up play is far too ponderous, especially if we’re not going to see a lot of the ball in the final third.

Not sure where it’s come from but certain players seem to lack the confidence to keep the pace moving in attack, Baldock (when he’s going forward) and to a lesser extent, McGoldrick have been guilty of this in the opening 2 games.

A mixture of a lack of composure and confidence up top has been a huge problem for us for the last 18 months or so.

1-0 West Brom for me too, unfortunately.
The lack of scoring will soon become a 'thing' with the players (if it hasn't already) and could result in another embarrassing season.
The level of inability to create anything has genuinely surprised me this season in what is, in my opinion, a really poor division.
Really hope i'm wrong.

I am sick of hearing our players only know how to play a certain way. I coach an u13's side who have just moved upto 11v11 and haven't struggled once with the changes pitch formations etc.. if your telling me that pros who get coached professionally have the best of what is needed and have played the game for 20yrs + can only play a certain way then why the fuck are the professionals and getting g payed hamsonly it's bollox man.

We’re gonna struggle against all teams

Think with Davies in the team we might only concede 2/3, our midfield isn’t quick or good enough to be withstanding their high press for 90 mins, dreading to see us playing the ball out from the back tonight as they’ll be latching onto all our loose passes. Once again we won’t trouble their back line.

We have done the longest away travel to Swansea in the championship.
one of the hardest tonight at West Brom. i will be happy to gain a point.

Is it the manager or the players ?
After watching the lot of them embarrass themselves and the club under the previous regime (who was also to blame), I’m not even going to dignify that question with an answer. You shouldn’t even have to ask.

Considering they played most of their lives in a different formation it should not be too difficult to revert.
