I had a good view from where I was sat and it looked like Ogbene had run the ball over the line before centering it? Not complaining needed a bit of luck to hopefully get us started.
Reminded me of Oxford game in 2016 that turned around Wilder's fortunes then. Hopefully history will repeat itself.

Yeah was it that Japan game where the ball looked out from every camera angle until they did the hawkeye type view and it was in by about 3mm due to the curvature of the ball.

So glad this technology was used today in our game by the Linesman.

Players reactions give a lot away and there didnt seem to be much moaning at the officials after the goal.

Admittedly I've only seen it on various TV viewings.

….this is no fault towards the lineman as Ogbene will always outsprint him down the flank….and the linesman couldn’t keep up.
So the commentators said unless the linesman was positive…then he’s unlikely to give it as out of play.

The commentators also mentioned that none of the Oxford players were complaining suggesting it was probably in play…so they said it was probably the correct decision. However they did say their players should have complained because then it might mean the ref gives them the next 50/50 decision.

From my vantage point in my chair in the house, on first view I thought it was definitely out and for a second actually expected it to be ruled out by VAR (that shits even ruining goals its not there for now).

But on the (admittedly not great) replays, it might have been in. Very marginal, but sod it; about time we had the rub for once.

Watching on TV, I first thought it looked out but replay were inconclusive. Only their keeper from their team made a half hearted appeal but quickly stopped so that may give an indication that it was in.
Dont care! the goal stood and we got our first points of the season.

I was in the vary last seat on that side of the stand bang in line with the goal line, so much so I could only just see the far post of the goal frame so the perfect view.

It was out, if not, it was in by a cats whisker. That lino was flag happy and had given a few dodgy offside decisions, he was 5 yards behind play though which probably allowed us to get away with one. If he was in line with where I was sat he would have flagged, 100%.

About time we got a bit of fortune.

So with Arsenal being a bunch of cheats ever since, is this the reason why (after Newcastle scored from that cross and subsequently won the match thereafter)?

Also, on their way to the final that year, Newcastle played Southport in an earlier round, drew 1-1, played a replay and drew 1-1, and then won the second replay 9-0. I can only assume that Southport couldn't be arsed for the 3rd game, that or Ruben Selles Great Great Grandad had just been appointed their manager without an interview.

As for United's good fortune with that decision today, about time things went our way. Screw everyone else.

Fortunately the speed of the ball only gave Ogbene the one option.

Thats why Edwards scored do many goals. He was intelligent enough to have a great strength in finding space in the oppositions penalty area and he also often made a late run to get in front of the near post defender to get a touch from a cross coming in from the by-line - usually crossed by the legend that is Colin Morris. Morris made many many goals for King Keith by getting to the by-line and pulling it back. Why some managers have moved away from this basic attacking skill is questionable.

Having carefully examined the footage, and having meticulously studied the stills posted on the highlights thread, and taking all available evidence into account, I can confidently declare that, without a shadow of a doubt ...

... I couldn't give a rat's ass whether the ball was over the line or not! The number of times we've been bitten in the ass by stupid, moronic, or blatantly biased, decisions that have cost us what should have been perfectly legitimate goals - the referee at Villa forgetting to switch his watch on FFS, or Stockley Park spending an eon in the PO Final, scrutinizing footage with magnifying glasses like demented Sherlock Holmeses, until they managed to find a highly dubious reason excuse to chalk off a goal that none of the conceding team were contesting, and that 999 times out of a thousand would have stood - it's about time we had something decisive go our way, for once.

So, yeah, on the line, over the line, or halfway out of the stadium and landing back on Ogbene's boot via a boomerang, I don't care - goal awarded, win awarded, just give us the three points, thank you very much!
