In today’s Guardian, he is quoted as follows:

“...when we got promoted, within 24 hours I got a letter from the club saying they were going to take my option up but with no increase in wages, just incentives. That knocked me for six.”

Best all round would have been if he'd have fucked off.

Have you got a link to the interview?

Sounds a bit like Wilder saying “so I’ll stop pretending we have a chance of getting in the top six, I’ll stop wasting my energy on that because clearly tonight has shown we are not good enough“

I don’t think Warnock looked like a man who wasn’t interested that season. Wherever he has said now.

The soundbite was from yesterday morning when they were previewing the Championship with the big Cardiff- Wolves match coming up. Wasn’t much of an i interfiew as it only lasted 2 minutes.

From memory he said
Alan Brazil asked him about the Liverpool- Man City match and what he thought about the Man City bus being attacked.
Warnock said surely the police should have protected the Man City coach (bus) better when it was attacked by the Liverpool fans.
Said it’s happened to him once, his bus was attacked in a Yorkshire derby when he was player and said he thinks the attack would have affected the players.

Alan Brazil asked about the big Cardiff- Wolves match and if he thinks he can finish top of the league,
Warnock played it down, saying theres no pressure on his players and they’re a great bunch that have worked wonders for him. Said he’s looking forward to Fridays match with Wolves. He understands it’s a 30,000+ sell out, which will be the 1st time since he’s been manager. Also said promotion isn’t assured yet so still need to remain focussed.

Alan Brazil said he knows he enjoys the Championship so is it possible he’ll leave for another Championship club and not manage Cardiff in the PL.
Warnock replied that the thing he loves about the CC is that it’s so equal and competitive , said any team can beat any team and he admitted that they should have lost to us Easter Monday, said Sheff United are a good team and on the night were the better side.
However he said he would like the opportunity to manage in the PL, commented that he got sack with QPR but he was never in the bottom 3 and was never in the bottom 3 with Sheff Utd either until the final day. Mentioned when we got promoted SU took the option on his contract which made him lose interest. He also commented that he never received the necessary funds so still feels he can do a job in the PL.

That was about it, as I said not really an interview, just a very quick preview of Fridays Cardiff-Wolves game.

Loved Warnock when he was here and some of my favourite seasons as a Blade were with him in charge. Full of admiration for the amazing job he did at Rotherham and is doing at Cardiff.

Totally aware that he's self-centred and will say whatever suits him at the time.

Think it's possible to recognise his flaws and also believe he did a great job at Bramall Lane.

Sticks in the throat a little when bitter ex-Blades like Jamie Hoyland are saying things like 'I can never understand how Blades fans can hold his teams in the same regard as Harry's'. Both teams had heroes in them - Deane, Agana, Hodges, Jagielka, Tonge, Brown - and I don't see why we have to choose one or the other. Not a list Hoyland will ever find himself on.

Last year he said the PL wasn't his cup of tea. Love the Chmpionship! Looks like he sits up, begs and let's his mouth run away with him whenever a reporter waves a cheque at him. Accuracy and Neil Warnock aren't words usually found in the same sentence.

A slightly different take to what’s described in the OP then.

He was clearly irked that the club didn’t give him a new deal on promotion, and frankly I think that’s understandable – and noticeable that Cardiff already took steps in February this year to extend his deal for 2 more years. It’s what most clubs would do as a statement of security for both the manager and any players you’re looking to recruit – even though in Warnock’s case this time he’s probably odds-on to be sacked by Christmas...

Warnock was supported by the board in the Premiership season. At no point did his position seem to be under threat. That season was frustrating, I remember us at man city who where utter shit that day, and us not going for the win. In the Premiership he is out of his depth.
Very disappointed with the man.

None of that reflects well on Warnock.
1. I'd like to see his definition of 'no money' and see how it compared with others at the time.
2. He had a contract for which he was paid (of course) but he couldn't be bothered to do the job properly? What an utter, utter, cunt.

About the same as Wigan that season and about £8m more than Fulham ( the only two I've looked at).

Lost interest and whined throughout the season. Over money. What a surprise, what with him being "a Blade" and all that.

He wasn't supported by the board ,we tried to do it on the cheap. If it hadn't been for the Hulse injury and Tevez we would have done it too ,mainly due to Warnock and not the board.

We had the second lowest budget in the league, at 22.4 million during the Prem season as has been pointed out several times on here before...Wigan's was 5.1 million higher at 27.5.

Fulhams was actually 35.2 million.

Based on nothing other than the Cardiff games I've seen this season, if he does stay at Cardiff, they'll be down by Christmas.

Their plan B is to throw Gary Madine on and lump it long to him in the final 20 mins. When they Played Man City he just tried to break some legs to unsettle them.

If I owned a football club and made to the promised land of riches that is the The PL, I wouldn't be trusting Colin and Kevin Chuffing Blackwell to have the tactical dexterity to keep us there. They really are going to be out of their depth.

Most of which we got back when we sold them

As Wilder did with Evans C, Hussey, Wilson and Holmes. All managers are susceptible to buying duds.

Holmes, he's only been here 2 mins, lets wait and see eh.

Bloody hell, if we're throwing in low costs signings i wouldn't know where to start with Warnock:

Cadamartari
Beckett
Flitcroft
Hayles
Wright
Whitlow
Thirwell
etc
etc
etc

I don't know where to stop.

£22.4m wage bill provided for Warnock’s squad in 2006/07 for our Premier League year.

£25m handed to Bryan Robson for 2007/08. He was incidentally also handed a 3-year deal.

Quite confident that Warnock would have been in a better position to negotiate a new deal if he had not tried to “blackmail” the board into increasing his salary by chasing the Portsmouth job.
He expected loyalty when he showed none himself.

This pretty much sums up my feelings. I thank Neil for getting us up there and giving us a good few seasons (promotion and prem) but disappointing is right, we only needed an extra point all season and there were games where his tactical decisions were baffling
Especially away from home! Made Cloughie look adventurous.

I'd guess we spent the following:

£3m Davies
£2m Hulse
£500k Sommell
£500k Leigherwood
£200k Kazim-Richards
£2m Shelton
£1m Fathi

best part of £9m, which at the time was quite a bit by our standards.

Also taking into consideration the season before he'd spunked away £1m on Geoff Horsefield and never played him and £1m on Akinbiyi, who he sold back to Burnley for £600k early in the PL season.

Warnock has gone down in my estimations in the last week, i knew he was a self obsessed cock but this bigger Blade shite he pulls out it a fucking joke. He might have been a Blade 60 yrs ago but in my eyes Harry Bassett would receive a hero's welcome at the Lane and there would be a mutual respect, Warnock can go fuck himself.
Like , like and thrubble like . Nail on head.

Looking back at that premiership season, we played with a lot of desire and he got 110% out of the players (cliche cliche cliche etc.), but he made some rash decisions and didn’t seem to know what to do away from home at times. That said, his points total wasn’t awful, but we could have stayed up.

I think the problem was that we had invested in ‘project warnock’ big time. His players (‘something to prove’, ‘do a job’) in a team completely in his image, which is quite a restrictive one.

We’re arguably doing something similar with Wilder, but lucky for us he favours attacking, passing football. When he does finally leave (hopefully a long time from now), there should be a multitude of similar minded coaches to choose from, and we can have some consistency.

Two things cost us that season first the hulse injury and secondly warnocks refusal to have another goalie to challenge kenny who was more bothered waving to young girls in crowd.

Plan B is forgivable. But the trouble is, Plan A is to hoof it to Zahore.

As (I think) a Burnley manager once said about facing Blackwell’s United, our Plan B was to kick it higher and kick it longer.

How many goals did we concede down to Kenny waving at girls in the crowd?
One I remember vividly against Everton at the lane end not watching play and was late coming out of his goal and had to bring their player down for a pen. But just generally not concentrating on play.

I think you're missing the main thing that cost us that season
