I’m pretty sure Klopp has been complimentary about the scousers plenty of times but we don’t really pay attention because it’s got nothing to do with us.
I genuinely don’t care what Warnock thinks. He’s not been our manager for years. I liked him at the time, he’s moved on, the club has moved on, I’ve moved on.

You’d expect with Warnock being a ‘huge blade’ he’d know more than the average run of the mill football fan? Clearly not.

For me it was the professional Sheffield persona that grated most. I remember a ‘margarine on the table’ article in the guardian before the arsenal semi which came across as patronising and disingenuous to the extreme. Didn’t he live in Devon or Cornwall for much of the time anyhow? Warnock attempted to play the professional blade but no one bought it. Wilder doesn’t have to try because he just is and we get him.

I recall an episode of the old 'United' series when, as a 2nd tier side, Bassett laying into the players after losing 0-1 to Man Utd in the FACup 6th round. 'You have to be a different breed to play in the 1st division, and you didn't show them you could today' was (more or less) the line he used. We'd actually played pretty well, their goal came from a corner which probably shouldn;t have been given, and we had chances to score, but Bassett being the motivator he was, picked precisely the correct word in 'breed'.

Unfortunately for Warnock the same goes for management. There are techniques that will get you success in the 2nd tier that will, in isolation, not work in the Premier League, and unfortunately for NW, his arrogance simply will not allow him to a) recognise this, b) re-invent himself accordingly and c) stop him from coming out with drivel like this.

He is simply a diferent animal from Chris Wilder, a manager who outdoes him on pretty much any front you care to mention, and is creating blueprints and ploughing furrows that make NW's approach look like fag packet scribbles and desert wastelands.

I won't forget some of the magic of NWs tenure (the anniversary of that wonderful match v L**ds being a case in point), but nor will I forget the basic mistakes which ultimately left scars such as Rankine in the PO final v Wolves, the aforementioned January transfer window from hell, the tactical disaster in 90% of away matches that season and the team, tactics and performance v Wigan.

NW is a bookmark in our history, and it's time he stayed there.

It does my head in when I hear people trotting out this line, of course hes going to say that, hes not going to start a new job at Palace or whoever and say 'your fans are good but nothing compared to the Blades' is he? Be a brilliant way to start a new job by pissing off the fans.

Would you start a new job and say to the boss or coworkers "well its nice here but my last job was so much better and the people I worked with were better than you"?

People take comments like this far too literally.

There’s a common trend with Warnock in that in the early weeks he always tries to get the fans on side. Don’t notice any other manager going to such extremes.

So when he managed Leeds after a few weeks he said it’s the biggest club he’s ever been at with the best fans.

Then he goes to Crystal Palace and he says they are the best fans he’s ever seen.

Then he goes to QPR and raves about their stadium saying the fans create the best atmosphere in the league.

Then he goes to Cardiff and says they are the best fans he’s ever worked with, so passionate and getting being the team.

Warnock is famed for being a bull shitter but I suppose that’s one of his qualities, he knows which people he needs to charm and get on side.

Everyone knows he's a limited manager, great on a tight budget and a bit clueless with cash to spend. Premier League failings aside his record of promotions is outstanding.

Ignoring where the comment's come from for a minute, the thing that winds me up is I don't know what this crop of players have to do to prove they're actually a bit talented. Some of these players annihilated League One. They took a season to adapt to the Championship before comfortably leaving that. Now they're more than holding their own against sides like Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal, and even put Liverpool through a tough game. I know everyone loves an underdog story, and I know we don't have any "world class" superstars in the team, but maybe some of these players deserve a bit more of a compliment than "bang average". Still, even after proving themselves for over three seasons now, that's what they're seen as.

So O'Connell and Baldock? Warnock's not on his own. Ask supporters of all the other clubs in England and they'll all say the same thing. England have loads of options on the right hand side of defence. Central defence however is another thing altogether. Measured against Keane, Cahill, Smalling, Dier, etc, then O'Connell is well worth a shout. Love Bash but not England class. Egan and Stevens are Irish so emitted.

That's not the point though is it. It's not saying they should be in the squad, its the description of 'bang average'.

Exactly. Despite his failings and personality traits he was still in credit with me until he took smug satisfaction in our relegation to League 1, something I've mentioned on here a few times now.

I don't agree at all. I started my working life in a warehouse, as I progressed through my life why should people continue to refer to me as "the warehouse boy"? Or need to remember where I came from? Or when I was top manager at a marketing agency, why would people need to remember my roots? I've also had unsuccessful stints at some companies - been fired, resigned, walked out on a company - why should people "not forget" that if I then go on to be successful and a valued member at my next company?
As far as I'm concerned, our players are Premier League players, not Championship or L1 players, and they are proving my opinion week in, week out.

We need to take one point from the next 14 away matches to match Warnock's record in 2006/07. Our spineless, unsophisticated approach away from the Lane was what got us relegated that season and the blame for that should be laid squarely and totally at Warnock's feet. "Bang average" is a good description....for Warnock.
