spoke to their ticket office and they know we are season ticket holders at the lane.

still waiting for the manager to come into the office.the email states the tickets are blocked until i can prove i'm a bonifide chesterfield supporter.

Will you get a refund? Did you order the tickets in a specific name or just surname and address? You could claim that someone else in your house is a Blade. Or just claim you are a season ticket holder but a local football fan who watches all the local sides, have been to many Chesterfield matches pay on the day and just want to watch an importnant local game, not as a trouble maker. If they wont let you go then you will not be spending any more cash waxthing Ches Vegas in the future.

Worth a try.

Just done my annual Data Protection exam this morning, I would be certainly asking our ticket office to show you where you have signed to say you are happy that they share your details with other clubs

I would also Tweet @FSF_FairCop - Amanda Jacks is usually very interested to hear of clubs doing this.

I wonder how they know that?

If there has been database 'sharing' could bring up some interesting Data Protection Act issues, if you haven't granted permission for your data to be given to Chesterfield FC. No doubt they'll be some 'exception' for football fans...

I've had the email today too. Not a season ticket holder but am a member. Emailed back asking where they got the info from I was a blade and if I'd get a refund. The reply was to ring the ticket office on Monday, completely ignoring my first question.
Luckily I've managed to get 2 tickets for the blades end

What i don't get is the fact that they apparently have all the details regarding names, adresses etc,yet they still think there could be trouble even though they have the person in questions detailso_OThey are a set of thick bastards.

I find it bizarre that they haven't given you an immediate refund. You bought a ticket in good faith and they are refusing to honour it

Exactly. Having only blocked it and not cancelled it they won't be able to sell it on the day either, leaving loads of empty seats

Raise a chargeback with your bank. They should be able to send it through under Refund not processed or Good/Services not supplied.

There is probably some sort of privacy notice in the small print when signing up as a member or season ticket holder.

Also unless it is sensitive PII, in this context I think the ICO would find that it is not a breach of the DPA.

Not that I agree, just what I think will be the case.

United could be in trouble over this if any of you feel like formalising your complaint. Even cross referencing a name and postcode is treated as personal data.
Is there anything when you sign up for a Season Ticket as a disclaimer to allow the Club to pass your details on to other Clubs? If not, United are right up shit creek (well, probably not as let's face it no-one probably would grass them up).

Yep. Names and addresses are classified as sensitive personal data. They can't just be shared. United could be fined for this unless there is some kind of case law to the contrary related to football supporters.

Data can be transferred without consent in the instance of helping the Police with their enquiries of any criminal investigation, but this instance does all depend on the wording of any small print you get.
Linz, one for the next SLO for United to confirm, or hit them with a class action subpoena? I'll volunteer running into the ticket office and chucking it in :) Yes Darren I have been watching too many American shows before you start...

So no one will grass the club up,yet they were willing to grass some of their own fans up for a quick buck:rolleyes:Twats.

When I worked in registeres in college about 10 years ago or so you wernt allowed to help the coppers with pretty much anything unless they had a warrant I think. I had one call up asking if I could tell him if a certain kid was in class or not and I wasnt allowed to tell him because of data protection. I think he did come in with a warrent in the end and then I could let him know. Your not allowed to share any info that could identify an individual so by giving our names to Chezy Id say they could identify us and theyve broken the rules.

however I seem to remember we shared our database with Wednesday at some point, cant remember why but Id imagine that there is small print somewhere that we've agreed to share our data with other footy clubs for saftey reasons and maybe to stop terrorists or something like that

Daughter's boyfriend has had the email, been to the CFC ticket office and say they won't provide a refund.( I suspect he just gave in instead of arguing the point)

I would have thought that, under the Sales of Goods Act they must refund as they have not provided a service for the payment made (i.e. a valid ticket for the game)

Any of our legal experts on here confirm that ?

There'll be a loophole that allows them to get authorisation from the police in order to be able to share data with other football clubs if necessary in the "interests of public safety".

If you have bought the tickets on a Credit or Debit card you should be able to raise a dispute with your bank, on the basis of Good/Services not supplied

There is a privacy policy on the website - unless you unsubscribe - they can pass your info onto thrid parties.

Also I have to deal closely with DPA. The ICO guidelines for sharing data state you can make a call to share Ad HOC info with a third party without consent in certain circumstances if there is an appropriate need to do so. I think United and Chesterfield would cite that for the prevention of trouble (which non segregation has casued in the past) there was a need to share without consent. I thibnk the ICO would find in their favour.

Would be worth a complaint if you feel strongly about it though.

As SellyOakBlade says get him to do a chargeback. The fact that they are blocking Blades I think is very harsh but I kind of understand - the fact they wont refund is just abysmyl.

Are there no companies/sponsors out there in Sheffield who buy corporate hospitality tickets for both United and Chesterfield. Will they be turfed out tomorrow?

Any way don't I remember a time when lads would go and watch United one week and Wednesday the next. Is this not allowed now?

The on line & distance selling rules of the UK do not (I believe) allow CFC to refuse a refund. It is your legal right within the first 14 days to get a refund.

The ONLY exclusions are DVD's etc/Lingerie and perishable goods. If anyone has bought through the Chesterfield website then CFC do not have a leg to stand on.

I doubt CFC are within their rights to say No to a refund if bought online - surely SOMEONE should be onto Praise & Grumble tonight with a F*CKING BIG Grumble and ask Radio Sheffield to look into the problem - this is a massive public interest issue.

Well make sure you watch the one where the sports fan appeals the restraining order placed on him by ticket office staff first.
