Do you believe Nigel Clough is the right man for the job?

  • Yes

Yes but I am starting to wonder what the fuck they actually do in training and why we are trying to play a passing game on a ploughed field. He has to be questioned on that!
Agreed, the pitch is terrible and I lost count how many times the ball bobbled just before it reached a player. Yesterday was certainly a day for hoof!
UTB!

Nonsense. One of the main reasons our team play so poorly at home is the abuse they get from our own fans. I bet your one of those fans that boo at the end of the first half when its 0-0. Just because we aren't winning.

When the going is good our fans are great i.e. big games when we are winning, when we get an early goal in a game. The rest of the time the Lane is like a morgue. Take the spurs game for example. As soon as we go behind it was deathly silent, then when we get a goal the fans get going again.

When we are not winning or go behind, or its a game against a smaller club our fans are shit, and the negative section of fans make Bramall Lane a miserable place to be, and probably makes it crap for a player.

Go on then Blade56 tell us who you would have as manager??
Don't be daft mate x

Agree with most of that except the bit about our form away from home - least the away games I've attended this season which is most of them. We have gathered more points on the road than we should done largely because 'Lady Luck' has been on our side.

Can't sack Clough and his team at this stage of the season it would be madness. That said, it doesn't me that I rate him that much either.

Got to stick with what we've got for the run in and hope the lot of them [management and players] pick it up and show some real passion and industry for the remaining games. Incredible isn't it that a couple of weeks ago we still had folk on here still talking about automatic!!!

..............................."least we had a good cup run"

as to away form I bow to your loyalty in going. We have been to a few and we play a different formation and it just seems to be the "away" way, to sit back, play a tad deeper and let the home team push on.

I would slightly counter your argument by saying we have been unlucky at home - Dingles, Notts & MK Dons to name a very quick 3. We had a real purple patch 1st game v Brizzle before half time when we could have scored 3 or 4 also, but lady luck tends to balance out over a season.

UTB

Thing for me is it is just so horrible to watch at times as once we score it seems we just want to sit back and hang on to what we've got. Understandable in the last few minutes but it's all the time.

I don't particularly think its the right time for him to go but the negative stuff needs to be saved for certain matches rather than every one. there are definitely teams in this league we should be beating by big margins as other teams can and are doing it and to do this now and again would give us a massive lift.

Could it be a first that we sneak up via the playoffs and the board still decide to get shut, personally I'd have no more confidence in him in the Championship as I do in League 1.

I think the real clincher would be if the crowds start to dwindle, strange really as the number of people who constantly say they can't keep watching this crap week in, week out and then 18000+ turn up at the next game to watch it, and I just thought it was me that was daft:rolleyes:

Agree Fulwood , although this week in all things blades world has not been good , to say the least , and i am sure a clear the air meeting is yet again to take place between management and players tomorrow , i do think Lady Luck will eventually shine on us , which plays a big part , between success and failure.

The moans and groans even from the pro Clough brigade is totally justified IMO , if and when we get into the play offs , we will win them .

I said many months ago , that the only team that can beat SUFC , is the team themselves . All defeats both home and away , have been somewhat self inflicted ., I have yet to see the blades played off the park , it us who create our own problems and ultimate defeats . Thats why it is all so unnecessary and frustrating .

Lets hope we go by the saying - Lucking Blades . You never know , next game , as the previous , as the previous , will tell , if luck and hard work will pay off . There is enough games to pull this around , and all connected with the club knows the score .

absolutely agree - Clough should never be above criticism - but the latest issue of no confidence is just not needed. I didn't originally want Wilson (his previous record was all too average to poor) but the decision to sack him was just totally wrong and it would be even more wrong to remove Clough.

I just wonder what motivates some fans at times.

Bf, in a nice way utter bollocks ;) it's the fans fault, ffs it's the players and the managers fault end of!!! That was one of Wilson and Weirs excuses it's the fans fault.

And why would you think I boo at half time, because I have an opinion and expectations?

A few seasons ago we were 0-4 down at home at half time to Sunderland, I booed, what did you do cheer and blame yourself?

I didn't answer the poll on whether he should be sacked now I answered the Poll of whether is the right man
I don't think is the right man but I think this could be a turning point where we look back at our club and think why did we waste all this money similarly as the Brian Robson period that didn't do anything for the club in the long term
It seems that we've gone from signing players on the way up to signing players on the way down to naturally those players don't have the same hunger as those who haven't done it x

You hit the nail on the head there - it was one of Wilson and Weirs excuses, and Warnock's, and Robson's and Blackwell's before them...and Bassett was frustrated that we could barely pull in 15,000 despite a promotion season because stay away fans didn't like the football being served up...you see a common theme by any chance??!! It's not like its just one manager saying it, it's almost every manager we have. So I reckon they may be onto something!

And booing when it's 0-0 at half time is a lot different to booing when you're 4-0 down.

101 out of 18000 equates to around 0.56% of fans, not worth discussing.

The survey shows about 48 fans pissed off.

Agree GB it's pointless but a bit of sampling about how others see our position. But that 0.56% are the ones who make the effort to come on a site like this and put their views out there to be challenged. In my experiance those people are usually the ones that feel the pulse of the masses.

Again, I think it will be interesting to do it again after the Scunny result to see how it affects people's feelings from their current yes or no vote.

Let's face it it's football and the fans are fickle, I am and I would challenge anyone to say they are not. When we win I put the fire mans outfit on and tell Mrs Jolly I'm a stud, lose and I kick the cat, that's how it is being a blade

I've seen Blades players more comfortable on the ball than I've seen for quite a few years.

Seen us compete and beat teams higher placed than us more often than in recent years.

Also youth players been given a chance and seeing a potential squad that could emulate Southampton, not seen that for years either.

All seems like a culture change to me and for once I'm prepared to wait, don't call me grumpy for nowt.

Roll on 2019.
Fair does fella, if it's what you want.

I have to stay I find our style of football boring in the extreme. The general (lack of) atmosphere at home this season makes me feel I'm not alone. If we're building towards more of this, then my vote is that we stop.

oh, and you still haven't said who you want as manager?? Any suggestions?

I'm 100% sure you didn't like Bassett because he was long ball football, didn't like Warnock because you called him Colin Wanker, didn't like Wilson because he was ex-wednesday, didn't like Blackwell because he played long ball...and you don't like Clough because he has romped away with the league title in his first full season in charge.

Will be interesting in 12 months down the line when we have the next manager and your asking for him to be sacked as well. I'll bring this post back and see what you say then.

I loved Bassett, Warnock (didn't know he was nicknamed Colin), Gary Speed and Spackman. Wasn't happy with Wilson at first but he won me over and then got shafted by Evans. Blackadder and Adams were a joke. Thruth is we haven't had a manager that can hold a candle to Warnock, however, the game has changed since his heyday and the technicalities, money and personalities have made him a bit of a dinasor now.

As to who I would choose, I really don't know, but when we start playing entertaining competitive attacking football, winning more than losing and start scoring goals that give me an instant erection I'll know we've got the right man in charge

Glad you put nonsense as the first word. Perfectly summed up what you were about to post.

Bramall Lane is no different to any other ground, anywhere. Supporters react to what is put before them, if the team play at tempo and show intent the crowd react, if they swan about like nonces not giving a toss then the crowd react in a different way. The game was played out in almost silence for the first half yesterday because the players failed to show up, when Steve Davies made a couple of challenges back to back toward half time the crowd roused itself in support only to be put to sleep by what happened in the second.
Fans fault? No it fucking isn't.

As to the original question I voted Yes but am teetering toward a no vote for this first time. Everyone can see something is wrong, putting your finger on it is difficult. There seems to be no plan, no intensity, no pace, in fact not a lot of anything that makes a team worth watching. Passing it about in front of the opposition is fine if you're patiently working an opening, but with little to no movement in front of them it isn't happening. We pass it around and, as nothing is opening up, it ends with a nothing ball as often as not.
Some of the players seem unsure of their role, some seem inadequate at fulfilling any role in a significant manner. I'm genuinely mystified as to what has gone wrong but it needs fixing sharpish.

Oh, and the corners. God they are tame.

I'm not just referring to this season, its EVERY season. And correct it isn't the fans fault, but its one of the contributing factors. Must be a horrible place to play when things aren't quite going right. I wonder why fans bother turning up. And your right, it is the same at a lot of grounds, doesn't make it right though.

When we played at a high tempo, showed intent and got stuck in under Warnock and Blackwell fans booed and moaned because it was long ball football if we weren't winning, and still moaned when we did win "this football isn't good enough etc.".

Unless we are playing like barcelona and in the top 2, our fans will never be happy.

And there you go, the same thing every one of the 92 teams in English football want. Unfortunately we have to be realistic, in the past 27 years only Basset, Warnock in 2002-2003 and 2005-2006 and Spackman in 1997 achieved any of those things. And Bassett and Warnock's brand of football were hardly easy on the eye.

I'm willing to give Clough time to achieve the above.

Fickle is an understatement.

We now will need 10 wins out of the last 12 to get automatic and if we pulled it off there would still be people ready to jump off the Wicker Arches when the two loses hit us.

Because, as I and others have said before the fans opinion is important. I successful club has a manager that is backed by the board, players and fans.

There is a lot of debate at the moment regarding should he be sacked / shouldn't he be sacked. For me we have just past the rubicon for this season. If he were to go it should have been January at the latest. I think we have to stand by him now until the end of the season, he's spent the money, assembled a large average (ability not physically) squad and we are into the last couple of months.

However, the board should be deciding NOW if they have confidence for him to carry on next season. What we do not need is sacrificing the first half of next season proving if he is or is not the one. He's had the money, backing and time along with his past record to give the board enough evidence as to weather he is the one!

So if the board need to decide (if they haven't already) if they are confident in the manager the fans need to do the same. OK we can't change him but the fans opinion is important.

If the players sense the crowds lack of confidence it makes them nervous at their game is affected. It's no coincidence that Barnsley and Peterborough have won all their 8 combined games since sacking the manager. It's a fact of life, sacking the football manager can have a positive effect on a club! Keeping a manager in place that does not have the full confidence of the board, fans and players is a recipe for staying where we are.
Cannot be bothered to trawl through all 75 posts but a few questions.
How many are regular on here and is that a fair reflection of the 'Fans opinion'
How many are regular on RS on FH? will you be adding this vote to the opinion on there?
Will you be canvassing Blades Mad and any other forums or Blades fans groups to correlate the total?
Are there far many more 'quiet' fans who you will not have asked who are not part of any media and how will you gauge their opinion?

I don't think we'd get automatic even if we won 12 out of 12. Think it's well and truly gone now.

I've toyed with this one all day, as I am really against changing manager on the back of a couple of bad results, and yet... over the season, is it just a couple of results. And yet, part of me thinks in the long run, we could be on a winner if given the opportunity to build a team. And yet, how long should that take. So, LBoE, I take the cowards way out and repeat what I have said before somewhere else on the Forum, the next match is critical for the team and especially for the manager. Lady Luck (what a tart she is) should be shining on both, and set us on a good course for success.

Eeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr ya wot, it's a bit of fun and has generated some good chat and banter, it wasn't intended to be a Gallup, MORI or YouGov poll.

Thats fine. Glad you clarified it for us. seemed a bit serious when you said the fans opinion mattered (which it does). Pleased to :D about it now though.

Hmmm it's a tough one.

On the one hand.....numerous poor signings, mind-numbingly negative tactics, falling out with players and not picking them - even when they are better than the ones he does pick, baffling team selections and substitutions, the worst set pieces I have ever seen and a team (that he put together) lacking skill, pace, strength and passion.

But on the other hand....errr...

"No" it is then.

Drove past Shirecliffe on Friday and there was a lot of yellow dummies out on the pitch, didn't realise at the time they were the players

Dividing it 50/50 y82 the latest got is split 76/74 can't be much closer and can't be much good for the club or the run in.

Think the Scunny game is a decider, if we lose that one I think his position will to a degree be undeniable. That said I think he will stay until the end of the season.
