Who are the men!??

Love it how it looks like they're camped in Wetherspoons and not the BA Lounge.

They're on virgin atlantic mate. By the sound of things there was a splinter group who left the virgin lounge to go and mix with the cattle classes. Can't be 100% certain as the missus and young un are on the same flight and incommunicado. Already messaged her to get Egan and co to do a rendition of Allez etc. upon arrival

The lads from my local team, Berkhamsted FC, are off on their end of season beano tonight. Decent season - sixth place in a higher league after a promotion last season, just missing out on the play offs, and lost in extra time in their cup final on Tuesday night.

Vegas for some, Butlins at Bognor for others. I’m sure they’ll both rip it up. Up the Comrades, and up the Blades.

Always fancied Vegas but I can imagine it's the place where you go full of excitement only to leave thinking it's a tad overhyped and very tacky.

I was there recently for a few days, having never had any inclination to visit before, and I liked the place and I get it now!
It's an entertainment city. OK there is a sleezy side to it, should you go looking for it, and gambling (I'm not a gambler in any form) is the mainstay, but the shows are what a lot of people fly in to see and the place is so clean.
The hotel's are Disney on steroids, but it really is a fantastic place.
Would I go again? No
Highlights for me? Grand Canyon by Helicopter!

I'm pretty much the same. Very anti-gambling and never thought I would go but I can't miss a family wedding. I had a great time. I ate great food - both cheap and expensive were good value. I swam, drank, chatted, went to shows, watched dancing girls , walked, flew over the Grand Canyon and generally had a fab time. The locals are lovely (Americans are much more polite than we are) and the Belagio Hotel is pretty much a Dale Chihuly art gallery. I loved it and would have no issues going again.

Berko eh? Nice place. Lived near there for a couple of years and regularly cycled to work down the canal towpath of a morning. My youngest son has just finished playing junior football - this was their last season. They'd moved up a division last season and they found it very tough. Up until a few weeks ago, they'd only won 2 games all season and the 2 teams they beat, folded, so they got the points deducted!:D They improved towards the end though. I will miss going to watch him play.

Re the Vegas debate...been there a couple of times in recent years. It's fun. That's what I'd say. At least for a short while. I'm not a gambler so the casino's hold no interest for me. But it's a bit like being in a circus being there. I wouldn't want to stay more than a couple of days though, but short term, it's fun, tacky, weird. I liked the fantastic hotels, the shows (Cirque de Soleil) and of course it's a great place from which to explore the Grand Canyon. My preference is to stay out of town though - there's a superb Marriott resort about 20 mins away and it's cheap to taxi into town from there. I also like Dubai - for a short break - guaranteed sunshine, fantastic quality hotels and food, amazing water parks and plenty to do for the kids.

I don't think there's any debate about Barnsley though!

Did the GC helicopter too that was great, Co I went with had a Helicopter come down in the Canyon a month later, wasnt a fan of Vegas though. glad I went to tick it off, but nothing more than that. forgot how much I despise indoor smoking too, jesus that really is disgusting. There is a very good Anthony Bourdain show on Vegas, based around the old vegas wish id gone out there.

I'm hoping Fitzalan Square is being developed into the Vegas of the north

Been to Vegas many times they will just blend into the crowd...but beware....what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas no longer applies everyone has a camera

Not in my experience. Depends on what you do when you get there.

We used the same helicopter company and I didn't mention the crash, which was almost a year to the day we did the trip, to my girlfriend until afterwards as I reckon they've upped the safety since and although I'm not a gambler the odds should be in my favour.
I think more people have fallen off the Grand Canyon in recent months!

I know what you mean about the smoking too!

It's worth seeing once in your life, as there's other no place on earth quite like it. It's a good thing that there's no other place on earth quite like it, but still. And there's the Grand Canyon, and Red Rocks to see.

And further on the plus side, it's ten times better than Meadowhall on steroids in the sand, or " Dubai" for short.

:)

A complete shithole, I had a better time in Blackpool...In November

Never appealed to me in the slightest. Looks hellish.

Dunno if it's the Yorkshireman in me or what, but my first thought whenever I see images of Vegas is "What a massive fucking waste of leccy".

Turn some bloody lights off.

Dubai seems like the place ten bob millionaires go so they can hang out with actual millionaires.

Other bits in Nevada are good. Been to Lake Tahoe (South Lake Tahoe) which is pretty cool. The state line that separates California and Nevada runs right through it, so youve got all these guesthouses, restaurants etc and then you cross the stateline and theres a casino and you can gamble!! So odd to look at. Good place to go both summer and winter to be fair
