Monty must go in january he made it look like we had 3 in mdifield rather than 4. Bromby needs to be moved out to RB and jags needs to get back in that defence alongside Davis.

I don't think Bromby looks strong enough to be at RB and Kozluk doesn't really deserve to be dropped. Kozluk links up well with Gillespie just as Geary and Squinn have an understanding on the other side.

And I stand by my comments on Webber. He was anonymous apart from his goal.

ive gone for young quiny was only man on pitch with a calm head n didnt worry one bit when had hold of the ball. he deserved his goalcos he had some great efforts n deserved more than one in my opinion

I've gone for keef, another excellent performance from him and ran tiredlessly all night.

Whilst Squinny had a fantastic game and should have bagged more than one goal, he looked very dazed at the begining till he actually got in to the game.

I rewatched a bit of the match this mornin.
Is pushing in the back not a foul anymore?
I was watching on fast forward and saw at least 4 pushes on Hulse that weren't given.

Some sloppy defending for the goals. worry is that both goals were the same, ball into box for Sutton to knock down and their players picking up the pieces. Despite his cracking performances lately confirmed my fears about the limitations of Morgs at this level, Sutton played him like a patsie all night and he was only half fit

Great stuff going forward, though we still lack the killer touch in front of goal. Webber was largely ineffective and loses possession far too easily, my grannie could knock him off the ball and she's 10 years dead!!

Squinny looks a bit of a prospect, first Blade I've seen this season not afraid to actually hold the ball and try and pick a pass.

Given the number of high class saves he made, particularly first half, MOM has to be Paddy, closely followed by Squinny and Keeeeff with Big Del not far behind.

I think that SQuinny just pipped Keef to the man of the match, both players are fast becoming the type of midfielder that i was worried we were missing (conifdent with the ball, progressive and with an eye for goal).

I dont think Jags was as bad as some made out, think he made some good interceptions and looked comfortable on the ball.

Overall, good result and i think a fair one too. We need to cut out the deffensive lapses because to me they have cost us quite a few points already.

UP THE BLADES !!

Jags is a poor CM, i said it last season on here and he has proved it this season. He is a terrific defender at this level.

Cant put Bromby to RB, he isnt good enough to be in the team full stop. Anyways kozzy and geary both deserve thier places.

Kenny

Geary/Kozluk - Davis - Jagielka - Armstrong

Keef/Halford - Leggy/Squinny - Tonge/Koumas/Hendrie - Squinny/Tonge/Quinn

Hulse - New half decent striker

Something like that after january. If we dont improve the midfield we are in bother

I agree that Jags is a better centre back but i think he has proved that he is a capable performer in midfield with some steady displays this season.

I find your assessment of Bromby astounding to be honest, i think he is a quality full back and is head and shoulders (figuratively as well as well as literally) above Kozluk and Geary. He is good cover at centre back but doesn't have the physical strength to play there permanantly.

Geary and kozluk are good cover but i wouldn't stand in the way of either player moving on, i thought Kozluk was a liability with the ball at his feet at times yesterday. I think Geary has been the better performer of the two this season.

Every single person who supports the blades knows that we need to strengthen the middle of the park. I'm happy with the progress being made by SQuinny and Keefs performances are improving with each passing game but i am looking forward to seeing some extra quality come in to compliment the teams progress.

That said, your post-january team looks OK to me. I would put Bromby at right back and would hope for another quality central midfielder rather then having Leggy as a possibile starter. My ideal team would be :

Kenny

Bombs - Davis - Jags - Stretch

Keef - Scott Brown - Koumas - Squinny

Hulse - Nugent

Armstrong hasn't out-performed Geary in a single game. Same can be said for Bromby and Kozluk.

Also, regarding Morgan, he poses a massive threat in the opposition's box and I, for one, would prefer to see Morgan and Davis at the back so long as Geary and Kozluk can offer cover for pace.

I'd also consider, on the back of Geary's and Kozluk's interplay with Squinny and Keef, widening the pitch back to what it was.

Doubtful. But Chelsea re-laid theirs mid last season didn't they? There must be a way to do it. ;)

Exactly the same against Watford, happpened quite a bit last season i noticed.
I also think we needed someone like Claude to cope with Sutton.

It is a tough ask for Bromby to outperform Kozluk in a game when the two have not appeared in a starting line up together this season up until last night.

I think Gearys performances this season have been excellent but based on the football I have seen over the past 2 seasons Armstrong and Bromby are better full-backs then Geary and Kozluk.

It’s a good shout regarding Morgan, he is a fantastic captain and I don’t think we can afford to be without his influence for this inevitable relegation scrap. He is great in the air which has benefits at both ends of the pitch and I think his lack of pace isn’t such a problem when coupled with Jags at the heart of the defence. His role reminds me very much or Arjan DeZeuw(sp?) when he was at wigan and pompy.

I just think that Jags is a much better centre half then midfielder so I guess my preferred partnership right now would be Jags and Morgs, leaving our 3 million pound star signing with a place on the bench when he gets back to full fitness.

motm goes to squinny for me with lil derek closely behind.

How is Bromby a better fullback than Kozluk or Geary? He doesnt ever go over the halfway line! His passing and dribbling are no better than either Kozzy or Gearys and he is only in the side for his throws. He seems to have lost some pace and is far to soft in the challenge imo.

Good at championship level, but has done nothing to prove he is better than Kozluk or Geary at full back this season.

So you think the job of a full back is to get over the halfway line?

Here was me thinking deffenders should be able to defend, i stand corrected.

I think you slightly misread me Jodman. I didn't mean in the same game. :)

And yes, full-backs should be able to get from corner flag to corner flag - as well as defend.

Well, yes. They are supposed to defend and attack. Bromby doesnt do the latter.

I thought that was Wing backs not full backs.
If you have a wing back then it's in place of an out and out winger, if you have full backs then there is a winger there who's job it is to go forward.
Thats my understanding anywho.

Funny moments

Football can be so serious at times it's worth trying to take in the comic moments at football matches.............

The Villa match had a few for the observant among us...........

Morgan running on the pitch almost forgetting the Premiership line up thingy.

The cat sprinting along the John Street running track in and out of the advertising boards.

The ball boy's "dive".......or was he tripped??

All good stuff.

:D :D :D

shame it doesn't show his actual fall....

but what a guy for taking the flack!!

I didn't see the actual trip but I saw him in mid flight and biting the turf.

:D :D :D

Look out for the ballboy on Soccer AM :D

His fellow BBs were pissing themselves at him but he was lapping up the attention of the visiting fans :D

What a plantpot! :D

Threads merged :)

Whilst a full back is a defender and not a wing back, i do actually see bromby getting forward and helping keith when there. I would have Bromby anyday over kozzy.

Makes me laugh how someone gets MOTM just cos they scored.

Yes he played well, but he wasn't our best player on the pitch.

KEEEEEF gets it for me.

Squinny was everywhere on the pitch - chasing every single ball, and going in with some excellent tackles. Keef had a good game, I think, but not as good as Squinny.
