Makes you wonder where Madine fits in though with now 2 strikers vying to take Sharp & McG's place in the starting eleven

Most squads try to have a choice of 4 strikers.

We have Sharp. McGoldrick, Hogan and Madine, all are good enough to start at this level and all offer something different.
It’s Washington that is the 5th choice and will probably even struggle to make the bench.

Yeah true, can't disagree regarding Washington. Does make you wonder how much we've spent bringing players in who end up moving on having played very little football. Can't see Washington getting much game time with 4 players ahead of him in the pecking order

Brentford fans surely have to be correct at some point? Honestly other than the pork I’ve not read such deluded nonesense from fans of a football club over the last few years. They come out with some extraordinary stuff.

All clubs sign players that don’t feature much and then move on. It’s football.

Thank you as ever Roy.
Similar comments were made about Sharp, Clarke when we got promoted regarding not being good enough for the league & more recently McG when we signed him at the start of the season. With the likes of Norwood, Duffy & Fleck to slot passes through and hopefully McG to allow Hogan to play off him, I think he could be an excellent addition. Makes you wonder where Madine fits in though with now 2 strikers vying to take Sharp & McG's place in the starting eleven

I was happy when we signed Clarke, for no reason other than ex Pigs always do better for us than they did for them.
I didn't think much to the McGoldrick signing, so I'm delighted he's worked out well for us, and himself.

We don't slot passes though the gaps very often, it's the one part of our attacking game that isn't good enough. Always preferring to go wide instead.
Maybe Hogan can make the runs that will enable Duffy and McG to pick those little passes through the defence

Duffy, Fleck, Norwood & Dowell are all certainly capable of slotting in passes between defenders for the strikers to run on to. Maybe going through the middle is an area which Wilder wants to improve on if going wide isn't working.

We certainly have the players capable of doing it, but Norwood and Fleck are sat too deep to do it, whilst Basham, Stevens and Baldock/Freeman get forward, none of whom are known for their subtle through ball.
Might be better for Basham to push up as far as midfield and then let Norwood or Fleck get a bit further forward

Suppose it's a case of who would be better, Leon or Hogan. Leon appears to have got fed up warming the bench and the move to Wigan looks a good move for him. Can't say as I know very much about Hogan. Swapping him for Leon, has it made us any stronger?, on paper I would say not, but we shall see what he brings.

“I’m tempted to say it’s the Villa Effect, we seem to make seemingly good players rubbish. ”

And I'm tempted to say it's a shit manager like Bruce who couldn't get the best out of a £9m signing.

I enjoy reading these threads but take them with a pinch of salt.

The only signings recently that have come with pretty much universal praise (Holmes / Leonard) have been pretty gash.

Where as the likes of fleck, o’connell, Egan etc had plenty of negatives.

New surrounds and change in approach and we could have a quality striker on our hands.

Well you can't have enough strikers if you are going for promotion, not having strikers has killed off our hopes on more than one occasion in the play off's. While I think Sharp and McGoldrick might be the starters Madine, Hogan and to a certain extent Washington have all arrived here with something to prove. Fail here and their careers are on a downward trajectory, they all need game time to prove their worth and may well have to be patient. The good thing is they all want to be here and want to play football, I like that.

Wilders record this season with signings is bang on

Henderson - excellent
Egan - collossus
Norwood - one of the best in his position in the division
Didsy - turned him into a crucial cog in the system

Woodburn - didn’t work but who wouldn’t sign a Liverpool ‘wonderkid’ on loan when given the chance?

Madine and Hogan - multimillion pound players not too long ago, I think they’ll both prove to be good additions.

Conor Washington?

My piggy mate that watches Brentford a lot as he lives down there said that hogan was the closest thing to David Hirst that he’s seen. Strong and direct.

That’s a hell of a compliment for the lad

I feel positive because wilder has a knack of transforming strikers & getting to play at their best sharp, mcgoldrick, Clarke were all finished at championship level when they signed but proved them wrong. I think Hogan will get back to Brentford best & could be fantastic

I've no doubt if Hogan is fit enough Wilder will get him back to the form he has shown in the past. He may just lack the sharpness due to lack of games.
