Do you know what 'apparent' means?
But you are assuming we are in for him and were for this fella.

Not particularly focusing on you here but some of the reaction to us not signing a keeper from the worst side in the championship is a bit ott. Wes is high up on the list of the most saves in the premier league this season but nobody is going to pretend that makes him one of the best keepers

A bullet dodged? What planet are you on? He's statistically one of the best in the league and without him Rotherham would've gone down last season anyway.
I don't care about his ceiling, I care about having one of the best keepers in the league next season for a pittance, which he is.

I've been very consistent that I would be fine with the signing at the price. I've also been very consistent in saying that given the reported cost of acquisition that bigger clubs than Rotherham, including ourselves, not moving for him sooner, is very telling as to just how good he is and how good he can be in the eyes of people who can assess keepers a lot better than I can. He'd be alright. Signing "alright" in the Championship, with limited potential to be better, is a very good way to go broke.

Aye
Also neglected to acknowledge the intellectual & political titan that is Jonathan Gullis 🤔
This is a well made and critical point.
Purely from a scientific perspective, anything with a mass the size of his compassion, understanding and intellect would naturally create a great pull.
It’s just gravity isn’t it, and Johanson is unlikely to have the require thrust to exit from it. He had very little choice. GLTTL.

Would that be the same media whose commentary linked us with Johansson?

I mean, it’s almost like we all have no idea and we can’t trust what is reported for clicks! Say it ain’t so?
We are still linked with Johannson by the same media you're on about. Just Stoke have apparently beat us to his signature as we have our eyes on Patterson (who I'd prefer, but is totally unrealistic).

Of course, you could blast this down by saying 'do you believe everything you read?' in which case I'd respond by saying lets just close the forum, and why bother debating anything that isn't cold hard facts?

We simply don't have the capital required to sign better, which is why I expect us to line up with Grbic on day 1 of the season. Or even Davies.

The keepers I'd prefer at a decent age with a high ceiling (like the Patterson's of this world, Lukas Jensen, Michael Cooper) are going to big risks with likely big fees, we simply can't spend that type of money on a keeper when we have limited money to basically rebuild the whole squad.

Can't disagree with you on that point

So give me a player with (you're probably right) a limited ceiling, but a proven championship number 1 for a small fee, over what we currently have. 100000x and 200000x on sundays!

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Stoke reveal him on a 5 year deal on 30k a week.. Won't look so cheap then will he..

What part of "I'm fine with Johanssen, I'm also don't care if we miss out on him" is hard to understand?

That is because I only go to Blades matches and I dont pretend to have an encyclopedic knowledge of non Blades players that some posters in here believe they have.
Spot on, I have often wondered how much other football alot of our fans actually watch, because I can honestly say I don't think I have ever seen the Rotherham keeper play unless he has played against us and if he has then he cannot have been that spectacular..

Fair enough, but some of us do actually watch other matches which don't involve SUFC. Some of them actually in person. I myself have seen RUFC a few times 'in the flesh so to speak' this season (a good friend is a season ticket holder at the NYS). Not everyone lives their lives the same as yourself and football support for me is 'I fancy watching a game, who shall I watch today'. Mostly it's United as I'm a lot more invested emotionally with SUFC, but personally, I do watch other clubs matches (sometimes heaven forbid, even if the Blades are playing at the Lane). Mind you I'm not one who thinks he has to watch United religiously if they have a match. Its not an obligation in life. When we played Forest the other week, I spend the afternoon doing the back garden. I was perfectly comfortable with my decision and no one from United has knocked on my door since to demand an explanation for my absence.

Congrats. Some people like watching football a lot more than you 👍

The apparent media led alternative is Anthony Patterson who would cost 8mil. We don't have 8mil.

Which statistics are you using? In terms of save percentages he was around 14th in the division last season (only including those who played at least half of their team’s games)

For by far the worst team in the league? I’ll take those odds

But which statistics were you referring to when you said that he’s statistically one of the best?

I’m not trying to catch you out, I’m genuinely interested.

I’ve said before that at least one other team has passed on him due to his apparent weakness at his front post. Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s also why we aren’t interested.

after season we’ve had I remained optimistic thought the board an wilder would get it right but this transfer has just done me you can just see what sort of summer and transfer window it’s going to be I really do fear the worst we all know this keeper should have been first one in on the list the rebuild starts at the back an we’ve just lost out on a very good keeper for next to nowt 900k a team coming down from the prem can’t afford 900k an the wages to Stoke who have only just missed out on relegation let that sink in wear in for a very tough summer this is the first player we’ve missed out on they will be a handful more over the next few weeks
We weren't interested

The alternative to your rather draconian suggestion would be just to take it all with a pinch of salt and not form hard or fixed options when it is based on 80% nonsense.
