With due respect to fate and the football gods, after reading that, Southend will be very welcome to triumph in the play offs and join us in the Championship next season.

Winning Bolton in the final . Go with that one in more ways than one .

Also being mercenary , a championship relegation spot already filled . Sentiment only lasts for so long .:D

Can't believe there wasn't at least one post about that dirty ginger twat Dave Kitson.

"Sheffield United are top of the form table for a reason, they aren’t representative of what we’ll face for the rest of the season.”

Loved this comment
Can't be true because we're gash. Just ask the fowls.

The love in continues....

'Really tough game today against a side of quality we have not faced for a long time. We equalled them in the first half but for a couple of poor defending moments but that's what happens when you lapse against the best. They punish you with every opportunity. Second half we dropped our tempo and they took us apart with their quality. If we are to push for the playoffs we need to raise our game.'

'Blimey, how good were they. I mean, seriously. That was like playing a Championship side on top of their game. That said, as someone pointed out earlier, Chris Wilder was leaping around like a lunatic when they got the third, so they didn't have it all their own way.'

'Where do you start(on United). That was about as clinical a display as you could see. I don't think a single player of theirs put a foot wrong. Fleck, Coutts and Duffy absolutely ran the midfield. The two centre-halves were colossal and Sharp is quality, although we stopped him scoring, AGAIN!'

'Just one of those things we should put behind us. Thank the lord that we haven't got to play them again and, of course, took 3 points off them this season.'

'I thought Sheffield were the best team I've seen in the league since we were in the championship about 10 years back. They harried and hustled us when we had the ball meaning we looked rushed. When they had the ball made little triangles, found space and but for a couple of poor finishes could probably have hit 6.'

'Overall, I'm not too downhearted by this one as they will beat most of our play off opposition too over the weeks to come.'

Regards, Deadweirdo

Fair play to Southend - proper club with top fans. Unlike most of the coastal teams whose fans seem embittered and deluded

I had a brief chat with a Southend fan in the pub beforehand and he was confident that they would win, as they hadn't lost in ten (or whatever it was). I did point out to him we are top of the league, so to maybe not be so confident, but he was having none of it.

This game was a huge benchmark for both clubs and managers regarding points , tactical , confidence and important phycological content of the season starts here .

We are not over confident , but have a good attitude of we will not get beaten .

I cannot remember a time like this playing pressing , flowing , bloody enjoyable football . This is better than under any other manager even including John Harris .

We met a remarkably cheery man who claimed to support both Coventry and Southend and he said we'll be champions... and says he's up in Sheffield fairly regularly for the beer. His tastes in ale are probably more cultured than his opinions of football, but I don't mind hearing it.

Well Royston you've had us all there haven't you, now you've had your fun go and get the real snidey, northern bastards comments out, appreciate your reasons but come on if you are going to make stuff up like that at least dont make it 100% positive, chuck one or two nasty bits in and I would possibly have gone along with you, cannot believe everyone has fell for it, now, go on, get on with it :-)

Cheers Panchero!

Well I have to wonder whether Southend is really a town made up of exiled Northerners? I mean, where are all the southern softy shandy drinkers comments about us being dirty, or the ref being biased, or the lino missing an offside and stuff like that?

Instead, we get level headed, common sense comments, no moaning, and a load of nice compliments.

Fair play to them, and as others have said already, hope they end up in the play offs and give it a good go.

I'm going down to my potting shed filing one of my leatherette gloves with slugs and going to drop my genatela into it and read again Thanks Roy
True Northerners use hard-shelled snails. Slugs are for Southern Softies. :p
