Dog turd display at best
Afraid we got exactly what we deserved.
Absolute fucking joke. Still trying to play the football we played when kermorgant was playing. Hoof after hoof after hoof with not one of the strikers winning a header
Lets not immediately crucify Powell and RD. The players need to take the blame too, only Poyet showed an ounce of willingness out there today. No movement at all from the front 4. Seemed happy to just long ball it all day to Church which is moronic.
Shameful, can't wait for Powell's post match excuses.
Gutless, shameful, no passion. We just rolled over, absolutely disgusted
Went Leicester last week and we were awful there, got away with it because Leicester were top.Not sure what's happened but the QPR winner and winning at Wednesday you thought we might pick things up but no. 2 wins in the league in about 3 months, bottom of the league and a poor squad which has needed investment since last summer.Today like most games we are far too negative too get enough results in the league to stay up.
laboured, toothless, poor, carry on like that and we are down
I've now had enough.U can stick ur season ticket and crossbar membership up ur a@#e
Cheers Rowland
Kermo s lastest piece sums it up for me
Wasn't a great game in general for a neutral. Neither us or United hardly threatened before Harriott missed the open goal. I hate to say it but Yann on the end of that probably would have scored. 2 goals in 2 mins killed the game for us, and to cap it off we hardly threatened 1 goal after that let alone 2.
Ah well, roll on Wednesday night, win that and beat Millwall and this game will be long forgotten.
Gutted. Absolutely gutted. As hard as it is, we really need to think about the league now. Millwall next weekend is going to be such a crucial game.
If we can get a result midweek then next weekend, then some morale and belief may creep in because I bloody well didn't see any today.
I'm going to try and be positive here. The only thing, the only thing that will make that performance worthwhile is that it teaches Powell the lesson that if we play defensively for the rest of the season we are down to L1 no question.
He has to go for it in games - no choice.
Poor. We were solid if unspectacular in the first half. Could have been different if Harriott had taken his chance but the biggest disappointment is how after the deflected (of course) goal we fell apart. It was unbelievably cowardly stuff after that, we waited until the 94th minute to have a shot on goal when we should have been battering them. They could have had four by the end. Wood and Wiggins were the worst I've ever seen them and Morro was our best attacking threat. Wilson was also excellent so taking him off was a bizarre choice. So, so, so disappointed today. You send the players out and you expect at the very least that they'll give an account of themselves and with the exception of Wilson and Morro, and hard work from Jacko no players showed that they wanted it enough to deserve to go to Wembley and they've let us down badly today.
Up until they scored whilst our display was not impressive by any means I thought we looked relatively comfortable. There was commitment but no real goal threat, no movement and no guile. We did have the chance to go ahead but it wasn't to be. My real gripe though is that once Sheff Utd scored the wheels just came off. There was no response other than looking more likely to concede (which we did immediately). Never for a second did you think we might turn it round. There was no gear to step up to. Sure Sheff Utd are a team in good form but really if this is all we are capable of we will sink in League 1 like a stone. Overall we were a poor second best.
Was there.
Gutless.
Embarrassed.
The whole lot of them can fuck off. The players, manager & coaching staff.
Thousands of fans busted a gut to support that shower of shite and we got nothing back.
Anyone who can take any positives out of that is taking the piss.
They deserved everything. Playing a one paced centralised team is one that has little chance to get anything. If you're gonna play a no pace team, just pack the midfield and win the territorial battle. Playing two up front isolated, is useless. If you are almost assured of having someone isolated, why not one? Especially when they play no cf's themselves.
They were an attacking team of midgets, who are going to play in between the full backs and midfielders. I'm not frustrated as the right team won.
Poyet does not push into space well, Cousins does. Either way in the center, Poyet or Cousins needs an experienced player. Reza has to play at home, as without any pace we don't pull center halves out of position.
There is a positive from all this and that is, we ain't gonna be conceding double figures at Wembley
It was a terribly flat performance but we were undone by a missed open goal & then two horrible defensive errors in two minutes. What was Wiggins doing on the cross for the first goal? The deflected second goal knocked our limited confidence for six & we had nothing left to give after that. Sheffield were hugely confident after winning eight games on the trot, and why wouldn't they be? They won at a canter. Our big problem is that we never look like scoring; we just sit back & hope to get something on the break. You can't just blame the revolving door of inadequate strikers either, we are just not set up to attack teams, create chances & score goals. Sheffield Utd, on the other hand, looked like they could score at will. We have to change the way we play & adopt a more attacking approach or we will be down to Division 1 before Easter.
Massive opportunity like that and we didn't even give it a go. The only player who had a shot on target on the bench for most of it. Unforgivable really and the effect on confidence makes relegation almost certain.
I predict the same thing will happen at Millwall next week.
That was shit, 1 real shot on target
Another kick in the teeth to the supporters and a gutless display by the players. For all Jackson's talk of being part of a generation that grew up watching the FA Cup, never playing at Wembley, not having many more chances etc, he and the team were anonymous. Sheff Utd played okay. I don't think we were up a team that stretched us like Leicester did last week. What won the game was their desire. They wanted it more. They attacked. For 60 odd minutes, we had triangles of passing from Poyet, Morrison & Wood. Again, Powell sticks Cousins on the right? I give up. His policy of a central midfielder out on the right worked for about a month at the end of last season, fuck knows why he persists with it. A lot people were back on the JJ bandwagon after his winner against QPR. Today his only contribution was a quick free kick and very bad challenge that got him a yellow card. Church? What's the point? We have 24 goals in 30 league games this season, he's probably the biggest factor. Can run and run all day, but so can a fucking dog chasing a tennis ball. I know Powell has put up with a lot these last 12 months, but we don't even look up for games. And this, of all games. If you can't get this team up for this game, get them at least playing with a bit more passion. THE PLAYERS OWE US BIG TIME NOW. There is no where left to hide. We are out the cup. We are bottom of the league. I haven't and won't give up hope of getting out the bottom 3. If those players really give a shit and Powell wants to show us he can get that team motivated, then give us a long overdue 7th league win against Huddersfield and sure as hell follow that up with a win against the scumbags next Saturday. Anything less is unacceptable. My last thought is for the fans that went up there today, I would like to see some open letter or statement of apology to them, from or on behalf of the team.
Absolutely gutted. Totally outclassed all over the pitch. Hopefully those that made the trip to watch that shite can still salvage their day boozing in the sun.
I haven't seen a great deal of games in recent years, the last time I was at the Valley was against Leicester this year. Today though, that was terrible and I really worry about what is going to happen between now and May. If that is what is available to us, then we are only heading one way. I'm not a 'Powell out' member. We need to improve over 100% to get out of this dogfight we are in, starting on Wednesday. I'll be listening to the game Thursday morning over here, as well as next Saturday against that lot. But seriously am worried what today and by the look of it, our performance can do for us.
I feel we aren't giving Sheffield utd enough credit. They played superbly and I can see why they have beaten far better teams than us. We didn't turn up today and badly need a reaction on Wednesday.
Probably - men against boys their midfield against ours. Safe journey home Clem - hope you've got some Stella left!!
I think we did okay in the first half. Like a few of you have already pointed out, it would have probably been different had Harriot scored that goal. Overall a very disappointing performance. Not sure why our players didn't seem to be up for it. After the first goal, we looked sharper and I thought we might turn it around. But that only lasted two minutes.
it was a good league one team v an average league one team
THAT'S WHY YOUR GOING DOWN, THAT'S WHY YOUR GOING DOWN, THAT'S WHY YOUR GOING DOWN, and you sed it yourself.:)

Charlton are a club I like so I felt for their fans today. Their team were horribly one dimensional up front. No guile - just a reliance on high balls into the centre forward.

They looked better with BWP up front the last time they visited.

They are just like Sheff Utd of 3 years ago. Lethargic, one dimensional and limited in talent/depth.

You can always tell a side that will be relegated, and it looks like them today. As in our relegation season, it used to wind me up, the lack of urgency when you are 1 or 2 goals behind. The keeper got the ball, walked back to the 6 yard line, tapped his boots, tried to pick out his man etc wasting 30+ seconds. Just as we did a few years back. That winds me up summat rotten, why would you not be desperate to get back in the game?

I thought they would really throw the kitchen sink at us after the 2nd, but it never really came. We were deserved winners, and I suspect this will be another fixture we can look forward to next season on that showing.

Also, good numbers from Charlton, but very disappointing vocally. Compare that to our Villa trip and it's on a different scale really!

Just got back to London.

I agree with all the quoted comments. That's was a complete disgrace. I'm still fuming.

Congratulations on the win. First half a was very cagey affair and a bit of a non event.

Second half we started ok and Harriott should have scored but after that it was like watching men v boys. Really hard to watch.

Thought you won without being spectacular which speaks volumes for our performance.

In terms of the vocal support it was a strange one. Different pockets of singing in a two tear stand is hard to get everyone going together. Plus we were as nervous as anything.

Sometimes I despise football.

Good luck against Hull and in the league.

Glad to hear you got back to London okay. Other than the result how did you rate your BL experience compared to our porcine neighbours?

We may not play you next season mr George.
Apart from poyet jnr and harriot, you lot are bobar the elephant, and i think you are down with that sort of team.
Credit to the travelling supporters, great turnout, hope you all got home safely.

I like Brammel Lane. Like the Valley it's not the biggest but it's enclosed, old fashioned and in town, not a new soulless pop up stadium on an industrial estate.

Also got to Sheffield at 10, so had. Few beers in the weatherspoons. All the blades we spoke too were top notch.

Obviously I'm upset and pissed off with the result but don't hold any bad feeling towards sheff utd. You probably won't find any Charlton fan that would disagree either, but then we are a pretty decent bunch ourselves.

CG hope result and performance aside you enjoyed the day. I for one have enjoyed your presence and wish you and your team all the best for the rest of the season. Stay up and maybe we'll play you again next year ;)

Unlucky George.

Let's hope you can put some results together in the league, and secure championship football next year.

Gus Poyet's son looks like a right player to me, big future. Maybe in league one team of the season next year ;)

i like em too.

Great club, great fans and whilst the team were poor today I wouid love to play em in the prem.

Proper club, proper fans, today was our day but we should be twinned!

Fair view of the game there.

It might have been a different game had Harriott scored.

Chin up George...we've certainly had our share of bad times so we know what it's like. I have to say I thought Charlton were poor today - I expected more after they beat the pigs. First half was frantic but we edged it I thought. Second half we were comfortably the better side. We certainly seemed to be the only side trying to get the ball down and play. Great atmosphere and a great day.

By the way, "Bramall Lane" holds 32,000 - so a few thousand more than the Valley.

Good luck in the league to you. Been a pleasure having you on the forum

Charlton would become blades favourite team if on last day of the season they win to send sheff Wednesday down, I thought considering the problems with trains, early kick off etc charlton fans deserve immense credit for turning out in such numbers and supporting their team so well, I agree with other comments, charlton are like us in many ways, great support, proper football fans but going thru a rough patch, my very best wishes and best of luck to them in future (games against the blades not withstanding)

Just gotta say your crowd today were probably the loudest home support I have ever heard and believe me, I have seen a lot of away footy. Chatted to loads of blades before and after the game and cant fault any of you. Top support, top ground and I wish you all the very best in the semi and for the rest of your season.

Your near neighbours need to take a leaf out of your book, they are the complete opposite of everything I said above, Arrogant, deluded nasty pieces of work with a ground that has zero atmosphere.

PS: Now you know why we are going down.....lol

To be fair the comments from the Charlton fans are a mirror image of this forum a month ago when we lost 3-0 to Crewe, after that game the team was on the end of some dogs abuse and were regarded as one of the worst in the clubs history. Things can turn quickly in football hopefully it will for Charlton, superb effort from their fans who all stayed to the bitter end when it was clear their team had run out of ideas. Best of luck to them with their fight to stay in the Championship.

Plenty of Charlton fans round here so I know that they will all be disappointed.
Still we made a superb managerial appointment in Clough and he is putting back our pride at last.
I have to say that I am enjoying the South East news seeing the goals again.
I hope you retain your championship status. The first time I went to the old Charlton ground there was a massive terrace up a bank.
Hope you all got home safely.

Sorry mate, I couldn't quite read that last paragraph, would you mind repeating it again? I'm sure it's important and I'd hate to miss your words of wisdom.

:) When I was nipper and doing the pannini sticker albums I liked that their badge was similar to ours...

But in a (slightly more) grown up sense, their fans rescuing the derelict Valley made them the most real London club in my eyes. Curbishley, Gritt etc etc...

Why did they get shut of Kermorgant? Always been a threat when I've seen them so was happy to learn they'd bombed him out. Don't mind Charlton as a club but they'll probably be playing us again next season based on their showing today.

Feel a bit for Chris Powell, he's a good man and the fact he got Charlton up as well as they did in 2012 shows he has ability. Plus they did well last season. But they were very average today, either early long balls which Maguire and Collins loved, or slow in possession and unable to find openings. Thought Harriott had plenty about him and Poyet will be a top drawer player. Other than that, you worry they won't be able to stay up.

For United, I thought we weren't much better until the goals, but after that we relaxed and had that ten minute spell when we pissed all over them and it could have been out of sight. Helped by the confidence draining from Charlton far too easily, not a good sign for them.

Up until we scored, I thought it was a pretty poor atmosphere. After the 2 goals though, that was pretty special.

Learn to spell as well mate, you are is not spelt your! As judge said, completely needless way to express a day when we should show class....and that's what your post lacked.

Agree that the tacked on post at the end was not needed but the poster has done a good job in bringing all the Charlton posts together so give him/her some slack mate.

I don't need to see what Charlton supporters are saying or feel like. The comments posted were unworthy of any Blade's supporter, so cutting slack of any kind deserves to be earned. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Well I like to see what other supporters have to say about us and I'm sure so do other posters on here. So to have a go about a spelling mistake is a bit sad and may put the poster off.
