Just thought I'd give an alternative viewpoint, high prominence rather than buried on page 20 of another anti VAR thread.

Mcburnie v soton was off
So was JOC v Brighton
Egan was a hand ball (by the new rule)
Moose was off yesterday - although very marginal

Didsy's at Spurs is the only one I can't get my head around. I'd also say Basham should have had a pen in Norfolk.

I'm loving watching the blades this year

Deliberate handball by a Southampton player in the penalty area didn't go to VAR, despite it being the most obvious deliberate handball in the area I've seen this season. Many of our offside goals were too close to call and can't decisively be said to have been the right call. VAR was brought in "for clear and obvious mistakes" don't forget, not for finicky little margins that the technology isn't even sophisticated enough to make an accurate judgement call on. Liverpool had an obvious penalty not given against us, and Leicester's second goal should have been disallowed for a clear foul on Egan. That's before we go into the inordinate amount of time it takes to make the decisions, and how this effects the momentum of a momentum based sport (see the Southampton game for an obvious example). On top of all that, there is the way it effects celebrations in what is, after all, a spectator sport.

What about the stonewall penalty we had ignored vs Southampton? And I’m still adamant their first last night should’ve been disallowed.
For the Southampton handball I've never seen a replay so wouldn't know.

Last night's decision is t wrong by the rules. I think that makes the rules shit by the way, but how can VAR overrule a correct decision?

Last night, not at game but listening to Radio Sheff, the moose through on goal then buries it, I’m in kitchen with 6yr old daughter making cookies, I literally jump up screaming, scared her half to death, running around kitchen when it hits back of net

last few years I’m guessing, based on previous experience, they would have said in seconds it’s off side and I’m like Bollocks

how it’s ruining the game?? Last night after scoring they spent far longer talking about the goal only then to mention its being looked at by VAR, now I have that feeling that this is going to not end well whilst waiting for the call to be made

that’s why it’s not good, IMO anyhow

Must make you the VAR gammon then.

Watching on telly I knew it was going to VAR the moment the pass was made. Great finish, even better ball by fleck. Frustrating - yes. Ruining football for me - no

By the way, I'm not saying it's making football better to watch, but I'm loving every game regardless

It is definitely spoiling it for me, but if we get one of these decisions for us when we are 1-0 up and end up winning the game then it might be different.

I’m sure we’ll get at least 1 in our favour. Like they said on SSN, someone must have broken a mirror down at the Lane !

Here’s a whole stack of well-argued reasons why it’s destroying the enjoyment of other folk. Hint: reasons 1-50, at least, are nothing to do with being a “snowflake”. Why bother starting a new thread if that’s all you want to throw into the discussion?

It's the fact that there's no consistency. Things are let go in one game and pulled up in a other. I honestly think the referees are as lost as the rest of us are.

Almost forgot: penalty not given to United in the incident yesterday in which Moose heads over. There was a clear high foot that almost took his head off. The incident wasn't even referred to VAR.

I watch non league when I can. Thank fuck there’s no VAR, and guess what? Referees fuck up very often, we all get to shout, the game continues and we may or may not get to go home happy.

VAR, they said, it’ll take the controversy out of the game. Daft twats (and I include those who continue to valiantly try to defend it), football has always been a bigger and better game than the others for a reason! Don’t you get it? Flow, spirit, ups and downs, moments of ecstasy and despondency. Not some fucktards in an office block with a ruler and Bud drinking tv fans.

I started a new thread because whilst some stuff is frustrating, it is not ruining the game at all for me or anyone I go to matches with or anyone at work, blades or not. I felt an alternative to the relentless negativity was worth posting

The snow flake comment was a tongue in cheek 🎏

I've been Playing and attending live football for 45 years and I'd agree with everything you've written about why football is great. For me, VAR has been a minor irritant in the best top flight season I've yet watched at the lane. I'm loving it

Lundstram foul on Mané was a stonewall penalty.

Completely ignored by everybody including the referee and VAR.

You win some, you lose some.

🤷🏻‍♂️
