VAR VAR is not destroying my enjoyment of games

I've been Playing and attending live football for 45 years and I'd agree with everything you've written about why football is great. For me, VAR has been a minor irritant in the best top flight season I've yet watched at the lane. I'm loving it

I agree with all that, except I would change “minor irritant” with “fucking outrageous negative impact on the enjoyment of a game I’ve loved for most of my 49 years”.

Its not ruining it for me either, and I'm still loving watching United, but I'm get really sick of celebrating goals only for them to be chalked off, especially when its for marginal offside calls, which is not what offside was designed for in the first place - Adrian Durham on Talksport called that right at the beginning of the season.

You can't wait 30 seconds and then start celebrating because by that time the adrenaline is gone, not that you've said that, but it seems that's the way the game is going. If the offside law can be amended or the decision by VAR on marginal offsides is changed to only be for clear and obvious and not marginal decisions then I think we could accept VAR to be honest. Also nothing seems to be going for us in VAR right now, or for most of the season. We'd possibly be on 5/6 more points this season without VAR's intervention; that's a side point because as you say the decisions were right, but as others have said, its missed other things and not given decisions it could have and the marginal offsides which are so frustrating.

Season ticket holder but not the away games. Went mad for the mcburnie goal as I couldnt see how he was off.

Seen every away game though, and lept about for the didsy one. The others I knew were marginal.

I'm really sorry for those people who entire season is ruined but that just isn't how I feel. I think watching the blades is great and VAR mishanding is frustrating but ultimately not that significant in my overall enjoyment of games

So it seems. I wondered if I was in a silent majority. Not on here, but strangely in the real world where I probably know around 10 people who attend live premier league football, VAR rarely gets a mention. No one thinks it is killing the game, or if they do they haven't mentioned it in the pub

Most fans I know hate it, one fan loves it but says the rules need changing, I kind of agree with his stance, VAR is just a video, it’s showing us a replay, it can’t be wrong in itself, it’s the rules that need changing.

I agree. The system needs improving (understatement alert) but I’ve enjoyed this season as much as any in my 36 years of watching the Blades.

Also for balance, Lundstram definitely encroached for Grealish’s penalty miss (Lundstram subsequently cleated the rebound), but VAR let us off - I’m guessing because they thought he was judged in.

Completely valid opinion. Overall, what an amazing season and a fantastic team. Best United team we'll likely ever see. But the last weekend was a joke. The game is worse than it was before and its self influcted.

I'm struggling to get my head around how frustrating this all is. But I'm enjoying the game much less than I should be.

I'm enjoying the season, but when we score now I just sit there waiting for VAR to give its verdict then sigh "Thank fuck for that". No more leaping off the sofa. That moment, which is a large part of the emotional pay off, has gone.

It’s not going anywhere and won’t be phased out but they need to make it consistent and be clear about the rules. Next season offsides in real time will alert the assistants watches and they’ll raise the flag so it’ll be back to what it was. Only issue will be if there’s a foul which will still kill the buzz.

They are an evil. Have you ever seen that stupid couple who bought a blades shirt and a pigs shirt. Cut them in half, sewed them together so they each had a half if each kit. It's like that but for scarves. They aren't ruining my enjoyment of this season either.

Fuck VAR indeed. We've all chanted it. I see hundreds chanting it in front of me on the kop most games.

Amazes me how many stand up waving their arms about shouting VAR whenever they think we are due a decision though

Cutting all chaff aside though. In what way can forensic analysis of football make it in any way better for the fan watching the game from the stands? Or for anyone else?

I think it comes down to how one views football. For me it’s a way of life, warts and all. For others perhaps it’s all about the detail. For me football reflects life, ups and downs and not always fair (sometimes for the +ve and often on the -ve). But it seems to me that TV fans and pundits and managers have all cried wolf so often about decisions that the utterly crap administrators of our game have responded in the way to be expected.

The only people who aren’t considered are the paying fans at the gate. But that doesn’t matter because they can be sanitised by the very companies supplying the recordings to the amateur standard officials glued to their TVs and rulers at VAR Central.

I am loving it too.

But not as much as I would as a consequence of VAR. Having to wait to fully celebrate, and therefore missing the “money shot” of goal celebration. VAR is dreadful.
