VAR avoiding decisions

The problem with Var is it is still a opinion of someone if a refis overseeing it thinks its not a pen then it won't be changed yet another ref overseeing it might give a pen. leiciesters goal was a foul quite clearly Var has so far to go

All we've achieved so far is taking the subjectivity away from the ref and giving it to the VAR team in exchange for greater delays to the game.

100% correct.

At least when it was the ref and his assistants, minus video technology, we could explain it as "human error" and accept that it's part and parcel of the game, sometimes going for you, sometimes going against you. Now it's even worse, because it's "human error despite being supported by video technology"!

You can't not see it. It happens a second before the volley and the ball ends up in Barnes' path directly from the incident. They have as long as they need; they can tell the ref not to restart play if they haven't decided yet.
The reason was that they didn't think it was a foul.
If they think it's not a foul then that's

If they think that is not a foul then that makes things very clear. We should adopt the tactic at all free kicks and corners whether defending or attacking to use two hands to climb on the back of the opposition player to head the ball. The precedent has been set now, so it can't be a foul. Either that or it was a foul and they fucked up. But they can't have it both ways.

Think the refs are just not giving pens because they can fall back on VAR.

But if VAR is only giving stone wall penalties the we’ll never have any penalties

Both the spurs n man city ones yesterday where clear penalties. But they weren’t clear howlers so instead of changing it there just saying oh well the ref didn’t make a howler instead of actually saying whether it was a foul.

Watched motd2 , they had an interesting discussion, and clarification of var for penalties.
They showed a few, that the ref did and didn't give. He might have got them wrong. But crucially they will only overturn it if it was a howling mistake.
If there's any debate, and the ref could have been right, but probably was wrong, his decision in play stands.
They are trying to leave the flow of the game. They are also trying to leave the spirit of the on-pitch referee. They only overule if it was a 100% error.

1: VAR has been a success to date with more advantages then disadvantages. It’s corrected loads of wrong decisions, just because it might have only been correct 90% of the time it’s illogical to think scrap it because it’s not correcting 100% of decisions. Without VAR there would be errors and massive controversy every week.
Also has anyone noticed with VAR there’s less disrespect and dissent towards refs, gradually less diving to gain a penalty because ref’s can’t be conned anymore.
Less post match comments from managers about poor ref decisions and poor refs, it’s not perfect but is better.

2: That would turn the game into a farce it only 10% of decisions were reviewed which has to be chosen by a manager.
Why not have 100% of important decisions reviewed, like they do now, it’s not exactly slowed down the game and is fairer/ more consistent.

3: Could work but it needs a change to the offside rule. Agree it does seem harsh if someone toes are offside but that’s not VAR’s fault.

4: It could make a mockery of the game because players will concentrate on blasting the ball at a players arms from close distance.
Can you imagine all defenders in the area would be running with their arms behind their backs, it would look weird and funny.
Some games would basically become a penalty shootout with about 5 penalties being awarded each match.

6: Won’t happen because it’s been a proven success, most managers love it, it’s just not as good or as full proof as some people hoped.

No it hasn’t the worst bit which goes above all wrong decisions been corrected is that you can’t celebrate a goal.

Every time a goal goes on you take 2 seconds to check it’s a joke.

Fair enough....some people prefer the lesser of 2 evils....the game changing mistakes, hounding the ref.
I think the way football was going....there is less and less refs coming into the game prepared to take the hassle and abuse.
This is FIFA’s answer to helping refs with s really difficult job.

I see it as still in experimental stage.....if feedback shows the negatives outweighs the positives then I’m sure it will be changed/ tweaked.
Never know might be only used for offsides as that’s 99% accurate and indisputable.

I just think back to where teams have been cruelly robbed.
The Frank Lampard goal under side of the bar against Germany.
The clear Thierry Henry handball when he scored for France against Ireland.
Think back to how players are diving to con yer ref into giving a penalty and players then trying to intimidate the ref.
Due to video evidence we will longer have crazy decisions. Ref intimidation/ crowding the ref and cheating will reduce, so there are clear positives.

I don't. Every time a goal has gone in so far I've done my usual jump around cheering and hugging random people, then after about 20 seconds I remember about VAR and check, and so far have been able to celebrate again.

It isn't that you can't celebrate a goal, it's that you get to celebrate a goal twice!

Obviously not. No defenders appealed by the way
Egan should have gone down. I'll guarantee if it had been the other way around, or at the other end of the pitch on a Leicester defender, they would have gone down,,,,,,,,,and probably got the decision.

Kane one was a definite penalty though.

He was in front of his man who put in a bloody rugby league tackle
The Harry Kane penalty incident was a perfect example, in the studio 1 said definite penalty, whilst 2 others said no penalty.
There was definite minor contact suggesting a penalty Kane did seem to be inviting the challenge, lost his balance then went down. It’s tricky even with VAR.
An incident with Kane this afternoon was reviewed by the var and saw no evil that was a pen all day how can the var get that one wrong,
I've watched the Harry Kane one from multiple angle's and I can't make out if it is a penalty or the Newcastle player is just playing a different sport.

Alan "never conned a ref-in-his-life" Shearer said no Harry Kane/Spurs penalty - Jeeez; this guy should be Boris Johnson's side-kick!

How anyone watching that defender's delayed two-stage Salmon-Leap for team survival is beyond comprehension. Why is it even considered up for debate? As clear and obvious as bleedin' obvious can possibly be.

Egan didn’t need to go down - dodgy as that might not be given. As soon as he feels downward pressure he just bends forwards. Attacker falls forwards over his back so doesn’t get the ball. Job done. I was doing that from age 17 and it never failed.

I agree it will likely lead to more emotions what if Chelsea score a last minute equaliser only for it to be ruled out

Update to my OP.
Having watched several more incidents where VAR could and should have intervened but didn’t, big ears and his cronies are now starting to say the same as i did and are questioning why the big decisions are being avoided.
How long now before the VAR refs start the knee jerk reaction and go completely the other way?
