After reading a few threads I wanted to say this to cover them all. I think we all just need to calm down a tad. Firstly, we’ve already got a good team. Secondly, there’s no way CW and Bettis aren’t working on bringing in new players that will improve us.
We attracted players last season when many thought we were a shoe in to go straight back down! We finished 9th and everybody knows what we’re about now!
The way some are talking on here is one of a massive inferiority complex. If some lad playing for Wigan wants to go to Fulham then... GLTTL!! There’s a tonne of players out there that would jump at the chance to play for this club for many different reasons. CWAK, Prem (top 10) status, a club on the rise, team harmony etc etc.
We just need a couple over the line to put every one at ease. And personally I still believe there’s going to be one that makes us go “Damn!! Where did that come from??” like Sander did in Jan. UTB

Soooooo, what's your point??🤔
And did this really need a thread of its own???🤔

Just to keep the faith Bed. Felt like a few were worrying a bit.
Maybe not... just wanted it to be a general read for everyone to see.

We have 25 days to the new season and we have signed a championship standard goalkeeper at best and that is all i can see why people are beginning to get concerned especially as our squad depth is not good to say the least and we are 3 strikers down to start with as Zivkovic has gone back to China and Clarke left and for whatever reason Wilder seemingly does not see Robinson as part of our team.

So where do we go from here then? because we are going to struggle to get the quality in that we need and strengthen our squad as a whole at this rate.

Or to look at it another way, the team that finished 9th last year has only lost 1 ’regular’, so we should be a lot more confident than we were at this point last year.

I am not confident at all with the way we played after lockdown for the most part and the lack of squad depth added to the fact the premier league is going to be stronger next season.

Think everyone’s putting to much faith in Wilder re transfers, it’s down to the board and Bettis to negotiate terms. IMO our low wage (comparatively) policy will see us miss most of our targets to clubs prepared to pay the going rate. In addition we will see another string of Lunny‘s if we try to keep players on low wages. If we want to stay pay the going rate, if the players aren’t worth it phase em out ASAP and start bringing young players in that can command the wages other clubs offer we will be relegation fodder This season. McCabe did the PL on the cheap and look where that got us. If we are happy to take the £137m in prize money we need to be prepared to re invest it in the one thing that will keep us where we are, the squad

After lockdown we had a real mixed bag. Some sub par performances, but equally some outstanding performances also.

I just don’t think there’s any need at this stage to worry about the squad. Ok if we fail to sign anyone before the season starts then some pessimism will be warranted. But I just can’t see this being the case. Players will come in.

I’m not sure Wilder can offer the players he wants to get the players he needs, it’s not his decision re wages it’s the board / Bettis as I understand it.
Really worried we are going to be demolished this TW by 19 clubs prepared to accept the market we are in while wilder goes for PL quality and the club pay L1/Championship wages, it’s what they are used to.
Got a really bad feeling about the squad improving and next seasons squad.

This section was crying out for a perspective thread to be fair.

Thank you Keef!
And that’s all I was trying to do. What with potential targets seemingly not landing as it stands.
I still fully expect Ramsdale to be officially announced before the end of the week and more will follow.

I think the good thing for Wilder is that the first XI is pretty decent.

Get Ramsdale in and apart from contract renewels, he's got a back 6 there for another couple of years. Yes, he can be on the lookout for opportunities but realistically that defence is only going to get better having now had 12 month's PL experience behind it. Sad as it may be to lose Hendo, Ramsdale has arguably attained better experience at his age. Remember Hendo was in the Championship at the same age Ramsdale was putting 37 games together in the Premier League. He'll also be all the better for it, especially having been so busy. It's not like Hendo had to be so active all the time behind that defence.

In front of the 6 we shouldn't worry about too much, I'm fully expecting Norwood's elegant passing to be complemented by Berge who will have adjusted more to the country and the league and Fleck.

McBurnie looked the part in quite a few of the big games like Chelsea and Spurs too. At his age I can see him getting better too.

So, yes, if the opportunity arises to get another first pick striker then we should take it, but you can certainly argue that 10 of the first XI will pick themselves on matchday 1 and that can't be a bad thing whilst others had disappointing seasons and could do with making wholesale changes.

Chris's job is to get some more depth and competition and there are worse challenges in the first preseason after a debut PL campaign.

Blade56, always looking on the bright side. Proper little ray of sunshine.

Who is UTB? What club do they play for? Are they Norwegian or Dutch?

Even if we only sign Ramsdale... We're still a much better team than a good chunk of the league. We just finished 9th. Realistically fatigue was the main reason we didn't finish 6th or 7th.

That's for this season though. We can't dwell on previous results as every other club will strengthen in some form.

How much time did those 3 actually spend on the field (for us) in total?
Can’t be arsed to look it up , ne’er mind how many ‘appearances’ they made between em but I’ll hazard a guess that the aggregate doesn’t reach 25 with less than a dozen ‘starts’ (only Robinson from recollection) & with many / most as sub in last 15 ?
Hardly irreplaceable & that’s assuming Robinson hasn’t a future with us, which at present) is pure conjecture - if he does go that would find a replacement who wouldn’t have to be very good to be better than all 3 put together

We need to sign at least 2 strikers I.M.O and a creative and attacking midfielder that can create chances for our strikers and isn't afraid to have a pop too.

So many times last season we got into great positions but tried to walk the ball in instead of having a dig.

Good post.

There is a negative vibe around but as far as I know, we are just starting. We need 6/7 in. 4/5 in the next 3 weeks.

Expect shenanigans 😂😂
