What I meant is that if (in future) either of those two come in for our managers/players (although why they come in for Carlito, I don't know) then they'll be gone. I wasn't talking retrospectively. The Sheffield clubs would have a chance of fighting off Everton if they were in the PL, but Liverpool - no chance. None.

We can kiss Brookes and Hirst goodbye.

Blades 11.03 million Euros

Leeds 43.9 million Euros

Owls 62.48 million Euros

So Wednesday are worth more than United and Leeds put together, according to TansferMarkt.

I'd say Carlos was under considerable pressure having seen those figures.
 
It's a huge compliment this.

First of all it was all about demeaning achievements.

We didn't squeek up from League One due to some last minute ill fortune of their rivals, we smashed the lot up with 100 points.

But hey (copyright Kevin McCabe), we were going to struggle once we made it to the Championship. Now sitting in third, them in midtable, top half by a whisker.

They were going to smash us though in the Derby, only one winner, eh? Put to the sword (Blade) 4-2 on their own patch on National TV and have the bounce unceremoniously taken away from them.

So what next?

Put all your efforts on scaremongering that the guy who clearly has your number might be tempted to pastures new.

According to TransferMarkt, only Millwall are worth less than United. Even Burton are worth 1 million more.

As there is usually a strong relationship between finances and league positions, it's perhaps understandable that some Owls were predicting a struggle for the Blades. I'm sure that United would have said exactly the same about Wednesday had things been reversed.

Aye, but I wasn't just talking about the Blades.

Carlos may be a laughing stock now, but he wasn't 18 months ago. When Wednesday lost the final, there was interest from Swansea. Carlos ran the rule over them and decided to stay. But would he have turned Everton down, bearing in mind that Koeman left Southampton to go there?

Personally, I don't think Tufty will cross the Pennines, but McCabe had better put his hand in his pocket...or someone else will.

Events, dear boy. Events. Just over a year ago (August 20, 2016) the Blades had just lost the first 3 of four opening fixtures at Millwall (drawing the other at home to mighty Rochdale). We'd sacked our under-achieving manager - Adkins - who had guided us to our lowest finishing position in over 30 years. Our new manager - Chris Wilder - was an ex-player who most of our younger generation of fans would never have seen. Wendy had narrowly lost the play-off final to Hull. There was no doubt which club was on an upward trajectory.

Not much over 13 months later? We did something about it. Wendy haven't.

In football generally there's a strong correlation between spending and success but not so much in the championship. As the list shows.

Good post and it shows two things to me:

Players acquired for nothing tend to have low values (Fleck / Coutts etc) as it is difficult for a third party to value them until there is interest. There is an argument that Brooks is probably worth our whole value shown inn this table, but that can only be proven when he is sold.

CW is doing a fantastic job in getting a squad of low value players to play so well. Compared to teams that have spent £60-£80m we shouldn't be anywhere near, but once again the whole is significantly more than the sum of the parts.
 
Are people still quoting TransferMarkt ffs.

It's about as useful and informative as HITC and FLW.

He did. Look up McCabe saying, 'he's a lucky lad' which to me says Wilder's contract is a good one, more than McCabe wanted to pay.
