I appreciate that I am about to condemn myself for heresy, abuse and be accused of rabble rousing/wind up merchanting/being a pig/sh*thousing/general b*stardry, and I take no joy from saying this, but in my honest opinion:

1. Our chances of automatic promotion, although not mathematically impossible are over. They ended with the 2 points against Bristol, Brum & Millwall. We are out of form, out of gas and out of ideas. We needed to be taking at least 5 points, if not 7 from these games, that was the required standard.
2. The next 4 games will be frustrating to watch and will make this board an unpleasant place.
3. We will finish the season with no more than 85 points.
4. We won't win either of the 2 semi final legs.
5. The fan base will be split as to whether the season has been successful or not, and the collective blood letting will last through the close season.

That is my honest opinion, others are free to have contrary ones, and i'm glad that CW doesn't share mine and that he is making positive sounds. If points 1 and 4 prove to be wrong, then I am quite happy for Foxy to delete my account/ban me and i'll never darken this forum again with my pessimism. And before anyone mentions 'trenches', no I wouldn't have been in one with you, I'd have made sure I was 30 miles away in the Officer's Mess. ;)

If they are listening “We are humble, we know our place and have no chance in the play-offs, wont even score a single goal”

Hope they now leave us alone and go to another club to heap some misery ha.

Couldn't agree more. I'm no longer angry. I'm just bitterly disappointed. We were in control. And we singlehandedly fucked the chances (of which we've had multiple) to make a statement and take 1st/2nd out of the hands of any other club.

Regardless of whether you believe our promotion chances to be over, and frankly I’d be quite surprised if you felt otherwise considering your glass half empty outlook on most things to do with United, my point was that you were comparing Wilder’s statement that it isn’t yet over with someone saying ‘the moon is made from cheese’.

One of the statements is quite untrue and the other simply isn’t.

What CW said in his interview is factually correct and my analogy about the moon being made of a material formed by the coagulation of the milk protein casein, is factually wrong. ;)
 
The absolute worst that happens now is that we miss out on automatics and fail in the playoffs, I really hope that doesn't come to pass but if it does I am honestly OK with it.
It's not really failure to get this close with the budget we have. We have given some of the big kids a bloodied nose this season and by and large all got to watch some really exciting football matches.
Every single one of us would have taken playoffs at the start of the season and its not even out of the question for us to still make automatics, OK so we haven't been brilliant for the last few matches but I've got to admit I have more than a few off days at work during the course of the year, nobody is on top of their game all the time.
So lets just quit with the tantrums people. COYRAWW

An apology........

It’s obviously the fans’s fault. Our negativity has rubbed off onto the players. 2nd in league, entering the home straight and you could just sense all that negativity around the place. All that negative money being spent on match tickets, home & away. People negatively moving heaven & earth to get tickets to Stoke on the last day. People negatively asking for autographs. Supporters singing the players names with a negative intonation.

To make matters worse, despite strong supporting evidence, some of us have now given up on the idea of automatic promotion, having watched the complete and utter regression of the team in the last few games.

So when the inevitable happens, which it will, it is all our fault. The players to a man were all up for promotion to the prem, they were doing it for us, but the fans dragged ‘em down, made them feel a bit bad, dontcha know.

It had the effect of pushing them back 20 yards in crucial games, made them slice clearances up in the air, made them unable to pass the ball to each other, made them unable to mark properly at key moments, made CW make strange subs.

I seem to remember the blades fans in full voice and full of belief, before we capitulated against Villa, the same as we were before we capitulated against Bristol City. Obviously, the truth of the matter is that we weren’t cheering & being positive enough during that helter skelter 20min spell, whilst we w*nked away 5 goals like a set of complete alehouse amateurs.

I’m now feeling guilty I didn’t do more on Saturday, a group of seasoned professional footballers obviously required some of my input, whoever minor, to be able to do the basics for the last 20 mins and see out a game, having failed to do it umpteen times this season already.
 



He's the very best we've ever had, isn't he? He speaks so much sense and with such sincerity. Listening to him is like having a reassuring chat with a calming uncle. It'll all be alright.

The club should do everything in its power to keep the man here as long as we can, I think I'm able to see he's the best I've seen in my lifetime.

That aside, the comments of "they usually bottle it before now" - I know how they are intended. But bottling has nothing to do with this current crop. Not a single player here in this squad has bottled a single thing in a Sheffield United shirt, ever. They've known nothing but team spirit, grit and as such, success. We and they should continue to be reminded of that.

This is a fighting Sheffield United, and Leeds best be at it, 'cos we're after them.

Let’s take out for a minute the question of whether fans backing the players with a positive atmosphere has any affect on the players themselves....

Can’t we just have a nice positive atmosphere at the Lane (decent amount of singing, encouragement, vocal support throughout the whole game) because
  1. It’s a lot more fun to do than the alternative, and
  2. Bramall Lane is more enjoyable to be in when this happens?
 
"...the fans filter in too", "...the players are only human" - exactly, they're not immune to nervousness or apprehension but equally, they're buoyed by us lot fighting right there with them. Like Wilder says "cometh the hour" - let's fucking have it!!!! COYRAWW!!!

leeds have lost 8 in 2019 already, thats 1 in 3

always amazed how our fans struggle a lot to see us win
but every other club can go on massive winning streaks

The pessimism on message boards is really par for the course at this stage. What’s most sad is that on Friday, when the team really need backing, it will be like a morgue again.

This will be followed by literally hundreds of fans bemoaning it on social media, most of whom must also be part of that problem.
