"To avoid clashes after the game, Wednesday fans will be asked to 'voluntarily' remain in their seats until the stadium and surrounding streets are cleared of United fans"

Not sure there will be much "voluntary" about it. Does this really work so well in a city center ground (with busy home pubs on either corner of the away stand), especially on a Friday night? I'd have thought extra post-match segregation would just inflame things?

TBH, I'd have thought the best way to leave the ground would be head down/gob shut/disappear into the mass of people walking past (appreciate the metal wall will probably up again, but if the point of the wall is to stop fans meeting on Bramall Lane surely keeping away fans behind for 10 minutes defeats the whole purpose of the wall?).

Just seems a strange decision. Then again, I suppose they had originally planned it all for a midday kick off. Seems ludicrous that Sky can overrule police safety advice!

We need a public announcement every 10 mins of the 2nd half, like they did for us
"There will be no exit on to Bramall Lane after the game. Visiting supporters are advised to leave NOW. Thank you".

-Wednesday fans asked to "voluntarily stay behind after the game"

They will probably enjoy the sight of the standing ovation our players will receive after the game.

Whilst they reflect on how MASSIVE ly dissapointing their club is.

The statement about being asked to volunteer to stay behind after the match is misleading.
It says those that ignore their request “are singling themselves out for their attention”.

What’s that supposed to mean?

Why don’t the police just insist Wednesday fans stay behind for 20 minutes after the match? Like the old days.
Maybe they no longer have the power to do this?

So they are allowed to leave at the end of the game, but with a threat hanging over them if they do so.

How ludicrous. If you are allowed to leave then that is that. The police can’t issue unspecified threats against people acting lawfully.

But counterproductive making the, stay aback after full time I think, it’s not like we’ll be doing anything like leaving after we’ve hog roasted them again.
Funny as fuck making them stay to watch our celebrations though, well done SYP :)

Were we asked to “voluntarily stay in our seats” at the rust-bucket in September?
Or were we held by SYPD at the back of the stand for 20+ minutes?
Just treat them the same way they treated us & hold them back. Make them stay to watch us take the piss & rub salt into their porky hinds after another humiliating loss.
Let’s all laugh at wendy.....

Let's hope these comments aren't saved by pig fans to have a laugh at after the game :eek:

Penny seems to have finally dropped that you need to keep away fans back to ensure safety and avoid disorder outside BDTBL. They can always issue a Section 3 for those outraged Pig fans who feel their human rights have been infringed. 500 extra plod means the more reasonable ones from Durham will be left scratching their heads again as the usual communication problems surface. No doubt they will be put on duty to monitor plastic glasses gate.

This might be a very random thought but wouldn't it be better to ask all fans not to wear colours? to just all spill out at the same time. Sure, some will be chanting but then there will be no easy targets for either sides' nobheads. It's a Friday night so no doubt a lot more fans than normal will be heading back into town.

How do they manage to keep disorder at bay when Liverpool host Man U with just a thin line of stewards and police separating two of the most violently opposing set of fans in Britain?

Could it be that the Merseyside Police know what they are doing and South Yorkshire Police are utterly clueless?
