Yes, I think he was a stockbroker and played part time for Sutton. He played in their famous win over Coventry. He packed it in to become a footballer. Of course, these days he'd have made more money as a PL player but back then, he'd have made more in his job. I bet he's never regretted it though.I read that he'd given up a lucrative job in the City to become a footballer. I remember seeing a photo of him (matchday programme?) posing with a mobile phone to his ear - great big phone the size of a brick with a breadstick of an antenna on it (I exaggerate probably).
Alan Cork and Bob HattonAny players you just liked, and didnt have any particular reason for liking them? One for me as a kid is Keith Gillespie
Both their careers didn't to live up to what they could have. Didn't help that Mike used to spend most of the game flicking his hair back!Yes I remember that Bournemouth game and was really excited. He just did well to come back at all but his overall game was never the same it's true. Poor family didn't his brother have awful luck too at city?
You think there was no particular reason for liking keef!?
I'd go with Luton Shelton. Now that is left field. I even knew he was shit but always felt he had a big moment in him.
That's when he didn't get that nailed on penalty isn't it.Agreed, against Man U he was awesome they just couldn't handle him - looked like the defenders just didn't know what he would do next - probably because neither did he.
I think if we'd renewed Warnock's contract we'd have seen a lot more of Shelton and Fahti and would have kept Liegertwood and CKR. Robson really was fucking clueless. Was given a brief to play more attractive football, sold some of our more suitable players for that system and kept Monty and Morgan. Work that out. That's when he didn't get that nailed on penalty isn't it.
I'm not saying he was great I just liked how exciting he could be.

Didn't he get rid of Legs before the window closed? He DID keep Legs Of Wood. He started the season with him and Monty (who he also said would score double figures that season) as his CM. Genius or mentalist?
As utterly stupid as this was, surely some blame must lie with Brian Kidd who had been here the season before and must have known neither of them could pass water!
The Flying Wingers father and son Colin and Lee Morris, the latter never fulfilled his potential once he went to Derby and for a hefty 3 million.
Ex pig Terry Curran too
A couple of names from the past - Graham Shaw and Bernard ShawAny players you just liked, and didnt have any particular reason for liking them? One for me as a kid is Keith Gillespie
Love a good winger Tunstall, by the way are you from Tunstall?
Vas Borbokis, will always remember his debut v Sunderland first game of the season, he destroyed them. Incredible talent that never truly achieved what he should have done at the Lane, probably because we were in big time selling mode ripping apart a team that had the ability to piss the league.
Because he always tried despite his obvious limitations and wore white cycling shorts.Erm Paul Rogers.Cant think why.
Not that reason Jan....Because he always tried despite his obvious limitations and wore white cycling shorts.
Rob & Andy Scott were also of this mould.
