In following this thread, I was pleased to note that the name Paul Thirwell cropped up several times as I was beginning to believe that no one else had spotted what a total wanker he really was.
I clearly remember watching his first match at the Lane and realising , after about twenty minutes, that he had not yet touched the ball and decide to watch him closely.
What I saw was plenty of pointing, clapping and general encourage ment to other players whilst making sure that he personally, had no involvement whatsoever.
In frustration, I jumped to my feet and shouted ( as you do ) " Thirwell, you're allowed to have a fucking kick !!"
When I sat down, the bloke next to me, who turned out to be a scout for Derby County, turned to me and said -
"He's been like this all his career - I've no idea how he's got away with it "
We've all seen players who we've thought " Why the fuck have we signed him ?" But that guy was the prime example for me.
