'Unique' Blades goals

Fjortoft scored a bizarre yet brilliant one, where from near the touchline the keeper came to challenge him, he dived to try and win a penalty, the ref didn't buy it, so he promptly picked himself up and curled a beauty over the keeper from the narrowest of angles.

His first was a lovely chip from the edge of the area if I remember rightly.

Deano did it against Bury and Wigan I believe in successive weeks.

I well remember the Deano ones, the first being against Bury with a remarkable flick into the top corner from a low, hard cross when facing away from goal.

All the talk in the pub after was about whether he meant to do it or whether it was a fluke. Me and my mate were adamant that he did mean it, and I remember saying that if Pele or George Best had scored it they would still be showing it in 50 years time.

Just to prove us right, he did almost exactly the same thing only a few weeks later.

A couple of thoughts. Would Fjortoft nowadays have been banned retrospectively for diving in the build-up for his second goal? That could be unique. And Borbokis' goal v Sunderland - a right-back scoring at the Lane End from the inside-left position, just as Freeman did v Millwall last season. And both had me thinking 'What the hell is our right-back doing in that position when we have a 1-0 lead?' moments before they scored.

Yeah I think it was fatty hirst scored a weird one for them too
To be honest (I can't believe I'm sayin this) it was a world class finish, he seemed to control and shoot in a split second, I can remember thinking how the fuck did he do tha

Leon's play this last few games has been phenomenal. I know strikers sometimes have purple patches, but this has been outrageous - if he can keep fitness and form, the rest of the season is going to be exciting to watch. A couple of thoughts about his 'uniqueness', while these games are fresh in the mind.
1. Nobody has yet suggested a precedent for his goal at Burton (ball crossed in, bounces, diving header), and I am increasingly convinced that that goal was an improvised gem.
2. On another thread it was pointed out that Jimmy Dunne also scored hat-tricks in successive home matches (1930), but I wonder if they were the perfect striker's hat-tricks? Again, last night Leon scored right-foot, left-foot, and then a header. If not a unique achievement, it suggests a skilled striker at the peak of his powers. And as a bonus, he is working really hard for the team. Enjoy!
