Yes really impressed with Tyler Smith. Is the lad Johnson on trial from Man Utd? Know the centre back is from Everton on trial - he played really well I felt and is a big lad. The two centre backs were excellent actually.

Really assured performance. The style of football mirrored the first team. Good passing, patience and wanting to go forward. Off the ball we pressed and made them make mistakes

Seemed so much fitter than opposition - which has been an area we have improved at all levels seemingly. Leeds players wanted full time and kept shouting to each other but had no answer for our attacking play and ability to win most of the 50/50's.
Had a look at the centre back. Everton signed him on a one year pro contract after two year scholarship but are not renewing his contract. He has been looking for a club, tried Stoke. Oh and he drives a big new Merc. I shudder to think how much Everton paid him during his first year. Some clubs pay substantial money on first year contracts so it must be difficult to cut your cloth to fit in to pay structures like United. Seems more likely that our young pros would move the other way for the money.

Depends on what other offers he receives. If Everton aren't renewing his contract he'll have to take the 'best offer'. The best offer is probably one that gives him the greatest opportunity to make it as a pro. If he's intelligent or well advised, that will be the route he'll follow and, given our record, that could well be us.

I am not so sure it will be with us.
Semple is clearly marked down as a future left sided, middle of a 3 centre back and Graham the right. That is the medium long term plan.

The club need short term c backs for next season, that is a fact. Wright and Wilson will naturally become the back up next season and 2 new ones will come in.
All being well Semple and Graham will play 23s next season then go out on loan. The following season Graham and Semple will replace Wright and Wilson as their contracts will be up.

Any new c back will 100% be coming in to play 23s next season. As it stands with Semple injured and Cummings not being offered a Pro Contract we only have Graham for the 23s at the start of next season.

Premiership lads will be on £600/£700 pounds a week, they will not come to us for half that amount. IMO......

As I've said Larky, it depends on their options They won't be getting £600 a week once they're out of contract.

It strikes me that Reed is being to cover for Coutts in deep midfield. I can see the lad covering for Flecks too next season.

Glad Wilder and Knoll were at the game.

Hope they are showing the lad the way forward, I'm sure they will rate him and will be showing him the way to come through. Next time he gets the chance he needs to take it.

IMHO, Reed is a very versatile & flexible player. I've seen him play for England U20s in the break play up, spoiler role. And he was very effective.

Recently, he's been doing the Coutts, back of the diamond, give the back three an outlet, cover the wing backs role for SUFC U23.

And, he's good box to box as well. Reed, Chapman & Dom CL are all in the age group for the U20 FIFA World Cup in S Korea in May. They've all featured heavily in qualification & warm ups (before injuries of course).

I really hope all three make the final squad.

Phil

I have watched Reed all season at 23s level.

He is MOM more often than not. I will stand by my thoughts that he will be a better first team player in the Championship.

He is 19 years old, 60 first team games, England U20 regular and without a doubt CW thinks he needs to train with the first team each day, play with the 23s this season and be a first team squad player with all the off field activities that brings.
Next season he will be ready.

I think Reed, like Ramsdale has a value to the club. If the value is met, he may well still leave. If it is not met, then the club are preparing the lad to be with us next season.

This is clearly a young player being chucked in too early, having a few bad first team games and now playing where a 19 year old should be at this stage in his career.

I have no problem with posters opinions on Reed from what they witnessed a year or so ago, but if you ask any regular 23s watchers who have watched him week in week out this season, 90% will say he is a very very good prospect. Yes even with 60 games he is still a prospect.

I agree 100% with Larkey having watch Reed a good few times this year. On Saturday he played ,as was said, at the back of the diamond protecting the Centre backs and he strolled the first half. Pushing on in the second half along with Mallon and we played Leeds off the park.
I hope we keep the lad as his aggressive style defending as well as pushing on has been a big reason for the fine season the Under 23s have had.
I hope he gets a game tonight at the Lane against Birmingham as we need a result to ensure we get to the knock out stage of the PLC cup competition

We went to this one, agree with what's been said by others.

In the second half we were standing behind our goal when Leeds won a corner. The ball slipped under the fence and a Leeds player appealed for me to get the ball. Being concerned of not managing to throw the ball over the fence (it is quite high, but how embarrassing would that have been), I used too much force, meaning the ball went over the lad who wanted the ball, bounced and then hit an unknowing Leeds player who had bent down to adjust his socks straight in the face. Both of them looked quite annoyed at me.
