Some will find a team and a level that works for them. Others will decline level after level losing confidence along the way. There are many players who got some chances coming through at PL level, that looked ok with an experienced team around them, but never kicked on.
MLS has been improving steadily over the last few years. Its no surprise that Beni isn't rated he just does not have the experience of playing regularly to compensate for the lack of physicality.

my memory might be playing up but didn't it take either injuries to others or terrible form for Coutts & perhaps Freeman to get a chance from CW

Fair enough if that’s your opinion - I was more than happy with what I saw. Just people got mardy when he wanted to move down South.

Yes, they were transfer listed but impressed in training enough to be involved in match day squads. When they got their chance, they took it and never looked back.

I get thinking that our fans got hoodwinked into voting him player of the season or whatever he won, but Arsenal's scouts?
 
Obviously ability is an overriding factor but having someone who can play right back, right wing and also left wing wouldn’t be the worst thing for this squad.

If he’d been brought to the club by Dave Bassett, I can’t help but feel he’d have been given game time by now.

I can understand the human nature that Wilder would be loathe to validate Bord in any way given it is really him who influenced the Board to dispense with his services.

But I do feel for the lad. I know it is a limited sample size but he didn’t look out of place against Nice, scored, liked a tackle.

I mean we’re also scratching for a left sided option yet couldn’t wait to offload Nwanchukwu who has subsequently scored in the Champions League. I’m not saying that makes him a starter but when you’ve finished the last game with Shackleton and Arblaster on the wings it does make you think if it’s really worth cutting your nose to spite your face.

I really do want Chris to dig out of this but decisions like this don’t look like they’re made for the greater good.
 
If he’s not good enough just release him. I doubt we’ll get a fee for him as we’re desperate to offload him.

He’s got two years left on his deal & I can’t imagine he’s on big money. Just pay him off and let him get on with his career

His sole season at Arsenal he was in the Premier league team of the season and won Goalkeeper of the season.

Initially Arsenal fans couldn't work out why he was dumped, they liked him.

see, people have said 'arsenal fans liked him' but I heard and saw many of their fans saying he was a liability. I have never rated him higher than a basic championship keeper. 4th choice at southampton says it all.

He never made it to elite levels but better than basic definitely.
Basic championship keepers dont represent their country at every level . Granted , his carreer is stalled but much better than the 4th choice at saints .

Slightly weird take. Just checked the forum ratings system and he was our third highest rated player for that match. Way higher than Peck, One, JLT, Davies, Bindon etc. I remember it as a naive performance but did actually try and go forward. But AI lads eh!

Reality is he was pants. Weak as piss and not quick enough. None of them were physically conditioned for English Championship football. It’s like putting a novice horse into a top hurdles race at Cheltenham

Yeah I looked up my post in that match thread a while back it was "too small to be this slow" or something in those lines. He was nowhere near.
