Just going on the fact there's only 500k tickets sold. 220k of them are England's games and the final. So 280k between the other 27 games is it really says it all. Very little interest.

Averaging over 10k per game even after the host nation has been removed puts it very much in the top bracket of international tournaments, in any sport. Still time for more sales, too.

Compared to men's football it feels like a small number but it's not really a fair or helpful comparison.

The 1958 World Cup group playoff between Wales and Hungary had a crowd of 2500. Things taken time.

Remember only a year or so ago when people were moaning about female commentators spoiling MOTD and live radio coverage because their tone was jarring. 🙄

All international tickets have sold out for the World Cup in Qatar, and only residents have access to tickets now, but with them being Categories A and B, you're looking at between £110 and £220 just for group games.

Majority of residents in Qatar don't earn a lot of money, so likely these might not get taken up, unless some western expats start buying them ans selling them onto foreigners.

I always thought Mount Pleasant Park would be a great place for a Fan Zone if the Lane was a host venue for the Euros or World Cup. It's big enough and close enough.

Btw Sharrow Festival is going on today too, it will be a bit busy.

I think the problem for women's football comes from the media as much as anything else. It is treated in a patronising manner but not in the way you might think. Its a bit like when rich countries try and provide less well of countries guidance on how rhey should be. Well intentioned maybe but flawed.

Laura Woods on talksport was saying the other day that it must be frustrating for players to be constantly asked about the "amazing" evolution of the game as if the womens game needs to be on a pathway to having the same status as men's football.High quality sport is happening right now.

I agree that the media are jizzing into a sock to over-promote the women's game. It's not a case of 'look at these brave girls in a man's world' schtick. They are footballers playing their game in their quantity. The onus on 'men = bad' 'women = good" just drives bigger wedges in moreso than TTK and BLM did. It amplifies division instead of making allowances and acceptances and moving on in parallel. The men's game has been going on for centuries, and the notion of women playing has slowly evolved from unthinkable and unacceptable to a complete reality, with exponential speed now. We need to allow it to breathe and exist instead of all this 'sisters' bullshit. There are enough icons in the women's game now for us all to admire (in some cases the reverse of Backhamitis a decade or so ago) and for the women's game to be a talking point in the pub and on forums like this.

How many tickets are actually available for the remaining games? I don't know what all the venues are, but if there's a bunch like Rotherham, which I'm sure is holding games, then it's hard to see them selling many more

I remember the subject of female commentators was discussed on Talksport about 3 years ago.

John Motson was saying that communication tends to be clearer/ better when there's a deeper tone of voice.
Hence why even the female news readers all have deep voices. Laura Woods on Talk sport has a really deep (quite sexy) voice.

Motty was trying to explain why some people might not like the sound of higher pitched women commentators.
When there's a goal scored, it's like a screech but within time I suppose people will get used to it.

That’s interesting that the dressing rooms get a permanent upgrade and it would be nice to know in more detail what the power and tech upgrades will be.

It is good for the city that’s we’ve got the games and the fan marches sound like a good idea.
Extra power points for hair-driers and curling tongues and the tech will consist of some nice "mood lighting" wall hooks for the handbags, lots of potted plants and full length mirrors in the tunnel for that one final check.

Loads of Swedes and Dutch milling around in town this afternoon and supping on Division Street. Fan Park hadn’t opened when I walked past but there were loads waiting to get in.

Somebody in bootcut jeans ought to go and tell them it’s a load of shite and nobody will want to go :)
Any trouble yet?

Hopefully the night will pass without too many har-pulling, scratching and hit-with-handbag injuries.

Motson complaining about high pitched voices!

Hit the nail on the head.

People naturally compare but that’s unfair, it’s almost a totally different sport, different culture, different atmosphere inside the stadium.

If you try to compare on a like for like basis then of course womens football is a bit shit but that’s too simplistic as its not a like for like scenario. If you treat it like a different sport then there are many positives and you can understand why it’s being promoted so heavily.
So why the demand for equal pay then, if its not the same?

Those moaning they couldn’t listen was horseshit then, it’s horseshit now.
I’m sure it helps with the sexists that some of the commentators are young and good looking.
It all fucking bollocks, they’re just as competent and no more annoying than anyone else.

Just got in, on the BLLT which seems to be a neutral section but with Netherlands on one side and Sweden at the other.

John St, South Stand, Kop all appear to be split down the middle too. It's not segregated, just organised.

BLUT, Westfield Corner and the Shit Corner are all closed.

Filling up nicely, great atmosphere outside and starting to build inside.

The lengthened pitch looks unusual, there's barely any room to walk around the corner where BLLT meets John St.

Being Swiss is even better, she can bring some Toblerone for dessert 🍨 💋💋
