We've just made the final pick up & we're on our way over to the Alexandra Park Training Ground on the outskirts of Nantwich. 1pm kick off. Points & Position wise, this has been a difficult season. Played 9 Won 2 Drawn 2. Next to bottom of the league.
Team. Goal. Shouty & Sweary Updates on my Twitter

Hope there's a reason why our U/23's are so crap.
I remember reading in one of Dave Bassett's articles for the Star when he talked about nurturing young players into the first team. He recalled a season when the Wimbledon youth team won a lot of games and finished top of the youth league but none of the players from that squad made it to the first team. In another season the Wimbledon youth team finished bottom of the league and let in many goals almost every week but Brian Gayle was one of the players from that squad.

No wonder they lost then ;)

(I rated Gayle tbh)

I hear that Silent Blade But we, like every other team have got zero chance of nurturing one of our youngsters into a first team slot in the Premier League. The numbers just don't work. I've sacked that off, so it would be "nice" to watch a winning team, playing attractive football. Which definitely wasn't today. Having got rid of the entire U23 coaching structure & parachuted some in, performances & results have dipped alarmingly. If it turns out that one of these lads makes it in our Premier League XI, come back at me. I've gone today to enjoy the game. Poor. Didn't.

Zero chance? Dont think so.

The centre half that stepped out from the back and then skinned 3 of our lads before setting up the last goal could be JOC's replacement. Did he head any bricks by any chance?

That really was appalling.
On the plus side, we can always poach some of Crewe’s players.

Correct. That really was appalling. Still. As you've all now seen the Goals, no need for me to describe 'em on the Blog. Instead, it can concentrate on tall tales from the Carrier Bag Firm. Find out which player's Mum has been placed in Harms Way by the unscrupulous CBF. Unlike me, but I have also looked for some positives. On what was a truly dreadful afternoon. Here she blows....

Why don’t we use these matches to give game time to some of the senior squad? Merrips hasn’t played at all, Stearman etc just a couple of cup games. If the young players aren’t going to make the first team anyway, surely it would make sense to give time on the pitch to one or two of the fringe first team players who might be needed at some point?

I gently disagree with that. Because I feel Development Football is important. Not all players who play Development Football will play First Team Football. But, all players who play First Team Football will have played Development Football.
