First hour was good stuff, United could easily have been home and hosed by that point with their keeper making several good saves to deny Kennedy, De Girolamo twice and Whiteman.
Final thirty minutes - after Gilmour went off and Reed partnered Whiteman in the centre of midfield too - Hudders' got on top in the middle and came right back into it. Don't know what happened with the opener as Ramsdale looked at fault at not stopping a fairly weak effort but it may have been deflected or a blocked view. United equalised almost immediately with Adams and Diego threatening, the ball bobbled through and Whiteman poked it past the keeper. Good driving forward from the captain to score. Then, we just went to sleep at the back and a gaping hole appeared down our left for the winner about 5 minutes from time.
Ramsdale - dominated his area, good punching and catching, good distribution. Didn't get tested as far as shot stopping but the first looked iffy from his point of view. Definite potential there though.
Cummings - has the build but a little mediocre both forwards and backwards for me. Out of the starting eleven, I'd rate his chances of making it as the least.
Kelly - short but strong, looks a man already and I would be very surprised if he isn't involved next season for the first team. Struggled as game wore on but was effective first half - defending well and getting forward.
Kennedy - this was his chance to impress Wilder and I'd suggest - on this - that the new manager offers him chance to be with us in pre-season. Commanding at the back for the majority of the game and wins headers he shouldn't win given his size. I guess the question mark is over his fitness and injury record.
Semple - nothing standout but solid and secure alongside Kennedy. Not knocking on the first team door yet but another season of U21 football should lead to it.
Whiteman - MOM for me. Tough tackling, decent with the ball, got forward well for the goal. Liked his partnership with Gilmour.
Gilmour - Hudders' came into it after he went off. Did he play for the U18 in the week as well? Loads of energy, got stuck in and definitely one to watch for me.
Reed - considering he has played for the first team for a couple of years, I was a little disappointed. Did what he always does, decent on the ball and looked more assured with younger opponents. However, given the hopes we had a couple of years back, I'm worried he's not really developing enough. His stature is going to be a real issue for a central midfielder in League 1 if he doesn't start growing.
Brooks - looks a boy still but definite potential there. Neat touches and flicks, good passing and a turn of pace too. I'm not sure he's ready for next season but 17/18 is a definite possibility.
Adams - like Reed, disappointed me. Definite air of "I'm better than an U21 final" about him and Binnion/Dungworth were really getting into him second half about his work rate. It's a shame because, if he'd wanted to, he could have really provided that spark to go on and win us the game today. Chose the wrong options several times. I like him a lot but I'm not sure he really wanted to be out there today.
De Girolamo - you can tell that he has quality in them feet of his but, like Adams, chose the wrong options a few times. Both strikers were neglecting their defensive duties second half and it gave Hudders' time to settle and get into the game. Could have scored a couple, probably needed to get one of them and we'd have gone on to win. Big season because I doubt he'll get another deal if he doesn't make it next season.
