My understanding is that his contract isn't being renewed as opposed to him being released, therefore he's still under contract.

It's a shame he wasn't given the captains armband for his final game!

It'll be a good chance for Wilder to cast an eye over these lads to see if he thinks they can feature. Smith seems like the only one who has the natural athletic advantages of say one of the Kyles. But I think we picked him up at an older age so won't have had the same coaching background so is likely to be rougher round the edges.

Just a thought. If the ungulates do get up, wonder what the reaction will be when TV pictures of that shit hole get beamed around the world. What a embarrassment to Sheffield

:eek::p:eek:

Lost 2-1. Dominated the first half and out muscled and pressed Huddersfield. Second half they came into it and they edged it. Bit of sloppy defending and they took their chances.

All the players put a shift in, worked hard and gave iteverything in front of an appreciative 5000ish (?).

Stand out performers for us were centre half Callum Semple and the centre midfielder Whiteman, the latter I think will be a real player and leader for the first team given time.

Ramsdale looks a good keeper with an excellent kick. Kelly is a solid left back who looks about 10 years older than he is. Whilst not being the tallest, he looks physically quite strong. Semple looks a good left footed centre half, decent on the ball. TK was good in the air and communicated well, encouraging the others all the time. Think he must be on his way given he gave his shirt to the crowd afterward. The lad at right back is a great build (6ft 1ish) and very athletic, but needs to work on his defending. Good going forward though. Plenty of potential there.

In midfield really liked the centre midfield partnership of Whiteman and Gilmour. The former really put himself about, flying into challenges and getting all over the pitch. Think he'll feature a lot next season. Gilmour is a bit smaller but more of an athlete, again looks to have something. Lou Reed was on the right and was neat and tidy. Young Brooks is a slip of a thing but has a bit of pace and had menace with the ball at his feet. Needs the steak and banana diet like Monty had.

Up top Diego was tricky and a bit greedy, but fashioned some chances with good footwork. Adams looked a bit lost up top and was leggy. Physically he's very strong and with some coaching he has all the raw materials. Needs a break over the summer. Thought up top we lacked a little bit.

Nevertheless, I'm unashamedly positive. Great to see some passion from the lads. Whiteman was tigerish in the challenge and i'd forgotten what it was like to see a centre mid "put it about" in true Blades tradition.

Well done Dem Blades!

UTB

There was I thinking the true Blades tradition was Tony Currie, Alan Woodward, Gil Reece, Len Badger, Willie Carlin, Colin Addison and a host of other footballers. Seems I was wrong: it's Vinnie Jones and Nick Montgomery.

Hang your head in shame Bassett.

Zzzzzz. The problem is Pinch you've backed yourself in the corner with your jaundiced view of football. You enjoy the argument too much, which is understandable I guess ;)

Udders goalie made3 quality saves,2 from Diego,some good performances tho,no 11,lightweight but had a great match,att 4018
Enjoyed it

First hour was good stuff, United could easily have been home and hosed by that point with their keeper making several good saves to deny Kennedy, De Girolamo twice and Whiteman.

Final thirty minutes - after Gilmour went off and Reed partnered Whiteman in the centre of midfield too - Hudders' got on top in the middle and came right back into it. Don't know what happened with the opener as Ramsdale looked at fault at not stopping a fairly weak effort but it may have been deflected or a blocked view. United equalised almost immediately with Adams and Diego threatening, the ball bobbled through and Whiteman poked it past the keeper. Good driving forward from the captain to score. Then, we just went to sleep at the back and a gaping hole appeared down our left for the winner about 5 minutes from time.

Ramsdale - dominated his area, good punching and catching, good distribution. Didn't get tested as far as shot stopping but the first looked iffy from his point of view. Definite potential there though.

Cummings - has the build but a little mediocre both forwards and backwards for me. Out of the starting eleven, I'd rate his chances of making it as the least.

Kelly - short but strong, looks a man already and I would be very surprised if he isn't involved next season for the first team. Struggled as game wore on but was effective first half - defending well and getting forward.

Kennedy - this was his chance to impress Wilder and I'd suggest - on this - that the new manager offers him chance to be with us in pre-season. Commanding at the back for the majority of the game and wins headers he shouldn't win given his size. I guess the question mark is over his fitness and injury record.

Semple - nothing standout but solid and secure alongside Kennedy. Not knocking on the first team door yet but another season of U21 football should lead to it.

Whiteman - MOM for me. Tough tackling, decent with the ball, got forward well for the goal. Liked his partnership with Gilmour.

Gilmour - Hudders' came into it after he went off. Did he play for the U18 in the week as well? Loads of energy, got stuck in and definitely one to watch for me.

Reed - considering he has played for the first team for a couple of years, I was a little disappointed. Did what he always does, decent on the ball and looked more assured with younger opponents. However, given the hopes we had a couple of years back, I'm worried he's not really developing enough. His stature is going to be a real issue for a central midfielder in League 1 if he doesn't start growing.

Brooks - looks a boy still but definite potential there. Neat touches and flicks, good passing and a turn of pace too. I'm not sure he's ready for next season but 17/18 is a definite possibility.

Adams - like Reed, disappointed me. Definite air of "I'm better than an U21 final" about him and Binnion/Dungworth were really getting into him second half about his work rate. It's a shame because, if he'd wanted to, he could have really provided that spark to go on and win us the game today. Chose the wrong options several times. I like him a lot but I'm not sure he really wanted to be out there today.

De Girolamo - you can tell that he has quality in them feet of his but, like Adams, chose the wrong options a few times. Both strikers were neglecting their defensive duties second half and it gave Hudders' time to settle and get into the game. Could have scored a couple, probably needed to get one of them and we'd have gone on to win. Big season because I doubt he'll get another deal if he doesn't make it next season.

Yes you were wrong, deal with it.

If Adams could have produced just a small percentage of what we know he is capable of then the game could have been over by half time. Overall Diego and Che (who we would expect the most from) were the most disappointing.

Small point but a printed team sheet would have been helpful. Enjoyable afternoon.

Enjoyed it. Thought we should have been up in the first half. Then a period of are either team going to score followed by 3 goals in quick succession. Still can't quite work out what happened for the third. It seemed slow motion.

Chris Wilder, Alan Knill were introduced to the fans. Kevin McCabe was there and a few of the old boys, Currie and Badger. Dean, Agana, John Pemberton, Del Geary. George Long.

Wooford and Hammond were laughing and joking with McCabe and Wilder, looked like they were signing something?

Excellent performances by the 18's the other day and the 21's today. Well done the lads and the Academy.

Might have made the Hammond/Woolford bit up...........o_O

Struggling to get too excited about losing at home to Huddersfield in an u21 play off final.

Be nice to win a final, whatever the level. And with the 1st team experience we had in that team, I expected better.

Great watching a committed set of lads, playing decent football, with an appreciative crowd, in the sunshine. Nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Brooks was the lad who impressed me most, for the first hour or so especially, along with the midfield engine room of Whteman & the no.7. Thought Diego looked good too today.

Onwards & upwards. On to next season.

I take it you didn't go or have followed their success through the season?

You may struggle to get excited but I turned up as did 4,000 others and enjoyed a competitive match. :)

I'm not sure Adams is capable of producing anything much on any given day. Fair enough he has potential which we have seen from time to time, but we also hear of negative matters too. If he thinks he's too good for the U-21's then he should ask his team mates today whether they might have been better without him.

Enjoyed it, was a good game, just a shame we didn't take our chances.

Semple & Brooks looked good. DDG has got an excellent first touch but he chose the wrong option a few times. Thought Adams was poor though.

What was the name of the short guy who played for us in 1971, black hair and beard, it was his job to breath fire in midfield and when he got the ball give it to Currie?
He was instrumental in getting us up.
Just can't think of his name at the moment.

Enjoyable afternoon watching football, Brooks looks like he could be a class act, comfortable on the ball can see other players decent positions/runs and some good runs,as other people have stated a bit lightweight, hope he doesn't lose the quality if he does beef up.

4018 in attendance. Pretty good show! Some of them definitely tired in the second half, but some excellent football played at times and a general positive atmosphere about the place. No complaints here!

As the game progressed and with it being a Play off Final I had fears that with extra time and penalties looming and Huddersfield as the opposition we might have seen a re-appearance of Steve Simmonsen. Fortunately it all ended well.

In fairness to Cummo he were played out of position, he's a centre back primarily.

Trevor Hockey. Limited by the standards of the day, but an infinitely better footballer than Jones and Montgomery combined (not difficult; so am I). Not only that, Harris surrounded him with players of talent and style. A great blend.

Bassett, on the other hand, had Brian Deane and surrounded him with Hampstead Heath Sunday leaguers and has-beens. Classically he signed useless lump Jones and past-it Marwood on the same day. For Dinosaur Dave, style was something you climbed over on a country walk; flair, half a pair of bell-bottoms and talent an ancient coin.

Once other teams learned to cope with his simplistic, ugly, crude but for a while effective, brand of "football" and particularly once Deane left, he hadn't a clue.

Right man at the right time was our Dave, but his legacy has scarred the club for decades.
