Blackburn forward with a year left on his contract

Right footed, quick, good feet and dribbling ability, more of a supporting forward but can join up as an additional striker to a greater extent than OHare for example, and make the sort of runs to provide a real goal threat and stretch defences

Would balance out our forward line nicely. This type of player mainly for the left hand side is the one thing we're currently lacking (other than another CF)

I feel that he's on the verge of a breakout season and at 22 could be a good investment possibly for quite a reasonable price

Great shout. I'm surprised nobody's been in for him this Summer, unless Blackburn have an option on him?
 
Still hasn't signed a new contract

Not had the goalscoring breakout season I expected but he's a good player who'd strengthen us significantly. He'd give us what OHare can't in that area of the pitch - the pace and skill to get away from defenders. His work rate is also excellent, which seems to be the priority for a Sheffield United number 10, so he could be a very viable target

There's a place for him in our team, if not in OHare's place then on the RW - he's versatile enough to play on either side, or centrally

He might be planning to run his contract down, but will he get a PL move in the summer? Doubtful. Signing for someone like us could be his best route there
 
Blackburn are one of those teams who once every few years get a reyt striker or two and once they lose them they struggle to find scoring form for a while. Dolan just came in at the wrong time, post-Szmodics/Brereton.

Blackburn fans don’t rate him particularly highly.

They always bemoan his lack of end product. Call him weak and say he lacks heart / desire.

When things come off for him he looks brilliant by all accounts but not sure he’s the one.

I think you can add that kind of player into a squad as competition for places but you come unstuck when needing them to be a main man. Campbell had his detractors at Stoke due to injury and at times ineffectiveness but has shown he can contribute positively here but probably not as the main man.

I wouldn’t mind Dolan coming in on those terms to offer depth and competition for Brooks, JRS and even O’Hare but you’d still want us to bring in a standout option on the left so it was a case of Dolan supplementing the squad rather than being relied upon week in week out. Were he subsequently to develop beyond that a fulfil the potential he showed as a teenager then that’s a bonus.

All that may be true. But he's a pacey winger with legitimate potential. We need between 2 and 5 wingers to be signed this January (or the Summer window at the latest).

We aren't going to attract top wingers, naturally.

All of what you both say is absolutely true. We are desperately light in the wide attacking positions and have been all season.

He’s 23 now and approaching 200 appearances. In that I’ll admit I’ve only watched him maybe half a dozen times and always thought he looked quick with a trick two. I went over the the Blackburn forum looking for info on him earlier in the season intrigued and I was shocked at just how much they don’t rate him at all. He’s not a young player just bursting onto the scene now he’s fairly experienced for his age.

I’m just not convinced. They’d want a few million for him no doubt, he’d want a 3/4/5 year deal. If we do go up is he suddenly one that finds himself surplus to requirements / not good enough. Who knows.

If we get BBD in on a loan to buy, we need a CM, another winger type and a CB bare minimum. We need to buy one of them as well have 3 loan slots to use up. I think I’d lean towards trying to loan the winger and see where we end up.

That’s a fair point of view I think we could absorb that contract even if it was a long one but you’re right not sure you’d want to be paying a bigish fee for him.
 
He's a local lad, and they're just outside the playoffs. I dont know his contract situation but why the hell would they sell to us? Especially in January

They've been a selling club for years. We're a better team.

Plus he's out of contract in the summer, I believe.
