i must admit, I do really identify with many of the current crop and want them to kick on as opposed to seeing the side dismantled.

Let’s not forget before Coutts’ injury we were top with a third of the season gone. The squad wasn’t deep but the best XI was as/is as effective as anyones.

Basham and O’Connell, Fleck, Coutts and Duffy, Sharp and Clarke. There something great about these lads that you want them to be the ones to get us there. I’d throw Freeman in there as well as being just the type of player I can relate to.

So to conplement them what sort of forwards do you want coming in to keep that spirit?

Moore and Marriott
Moore 13 in 25 in League One and 6’5”, 25 years old.
Marriot 33 in 56 in League One and quick, 23 years old.
Total cost 7m fees (5+2?) but non-disruptive wages (1m combined)

Gallagher and Hogan
Gallagher 7 in 34 in Championship and 6’4”, 22 years old.
Hogan 7 in 24 in Championship and quick?, 26 years old.
Total cost 5m fees (4+1 loan fee) but 2.5m wages and possible disruption.

One slightly more expensive but you own both assets and the wages into next season still manageable.

What route would you take if choice is between the two only?

How much do you think the deals would cost vs my example? (Heard 6.5 mentioned for Marriott but want and get are different!).

Thoughts?

Moore is about as mobile as a hatstand. I think he’s limited and gone as high (excuse pun) as he’s going. He will (not deliberately) promote hoof.

I’d go Gallagher and one other. Probably Tiger Woods.

If we're getting £12m for Brooks then Gallagher and Marriott should be a possibility. But as if.

We're going to have to up the wages eventually. It has to start somewhere.

What would the existing players want - signings who'll give them the best chance of getting to the PL and everything that comes with it or gambles who are less likely to get us there but will be on lower wages? Do they want to be at an ambitious club or not? It's surely a no brainer. They understand how it is in football.

The chances are their own contracts would be improved to give them parity with any higher earning new signings in a matter of months anyway.

To be clear, I'm not talking 30k p/w here, but we need a push to make us properly competitive. Probably towards 20k p/w. That would currently make a big difference I feel.

We could use the Brooks fee to help fund wage increases, and also run with a smaller squad - no spare parts.

Dismantling the side has never been an option. There’s no intention and insufficient funds to do that.

I’ve said before, we won’t be spending anywhere near £5m. £2m or £3m max imo and probably not even that.

I like your ambition though!

The problem with suddenly paying a few players 20k is that the players already at the club then want more. It’s a slippery slope if you don’t have much to play with. The pig players all did, most famous was fernando when players like fletcher Rhodes etc came in on more money.

We need to build around JOC, Fleck. So the ideal additions are 23-27, had at least one good year at L1 or above, athletic, technically good. I'm not well versed enough to know who they should be but I'd like to think they are out there!

Or just big, black, fast and French :)

I 100% believe the wages are an issue for players like Hogan and Jamal but where did that come from on here? Feels like it's all I've read this summer haha...

Whoever sowed that seed certainly got a bumper harvest.

If you read the transcript of the Preliminary Hearing it confirms that some of the Brooks money is likely to be be used for running costs so we won't be spending on big permanent fees whilst the ownership battle is going on. Loans look like the order of the day with possibly 1 permanent. I've given up hope of us competing for the likes of Marriott until we know who will be running the Club. I don't see us paying out anymore than £2.5 million for 1 player and that could be Egan with Loans for Gallagher, Hogan and another CB. We just need to get a new signing over the line next week to allay concerns that we are struggling to attract players.

What I am more concerned about are the vultures now circling for Fleck and JOC following the revelations in Court. Holding onto our prized assets will be just as important for the remainder of the window. We may well achieve that this time round but there are greater risks in the JTW if the parties have to go back to Court to agree funding for the second half of the season.

Gallagher (loan) and Marriott (full transfer) would be my choice but as alluded to we’d need to find some cash from somewhere by the looks of things.

Every single club in World football has players who are paid more than others
There is nothing whatsoever to suggest that our players will suddenly become arseholes if somebody arrives on more money than them. If anything it's more likely to spur them on knowing that the rewards are there if they do the business.
Maybe then they wouldn't want to leave as soon as they have 5 decent games for us

It's nothing more than scaremongering from yet another weak and pathetic boardroom who have continued this myth from previous weak and pathetic boardrooms
