Two Special Signings

I thought Ched Evans was our two special signings

It's going to be Tongy and Kozzy.

Seriously though, people are always misconstrueing McCabes words and then getting all hot under the collar about it.

I think he actually said that there might be room for one or two special signings... Not that there would be two special signings

Lets be honest mate, McCabe just needs to stay quiet and let things take care of themselves like they did last season. We don't need to listen to the bullshit that comes out of his mouth, hope that clears it up.

Results from whatever McCabe does ends up on the pitch and that's what we'll judge him on, not from the clever and smug words that come out of his mouth in the aftermath of a promotion parade interview.

Others Ched, can see him signing before start of season.

We had a tremendous season last time out and no coincidence that we heard little or nothing from McCabe all season.

I'd rather that continue than he just came out with uncosted, unfulfilled promises which just gets everyone's back up

I've never heard him make any promises in all the time he's been chairman. I have, though, heard hundreds pretend he has. This "special signings" is yet another example, puffed up by 'special' people.

Note to the literally challenged: a declaration of intent or an expression of hope is not a promise.

Seen this mentioned a few times. Quoting McCabe.

Did he actually say this?

If he did, and assuming for a minute that Jags is one of them, are there/have there been any clues/rumours about who/whom the other/second one/player could be/is?

Many thanks/much appreciated.

<< Co-owner Kevin McCabe says the Blades 'have reasons to be optimistic' ahead of the 2017/18 campaign in the Championship.

McCabe has been impressed with boss Chris Wilder first moves in the summer transfer market and is confident of a positive first season back in the second tier.

He remarked: "There has been a great deal of shrewdness on Chris's behalf, to act and act early.

"He got three players in who he wants and those that may follow are the ones he targeted and planned for so that's shrewd business.

"They are his choices and I reckon he's got it right again. Chris has instilled a policy into the club where the players he brings in have a desire to come and play for Sheffield United and they are well aware of the aims and ambitions."

McCabe added: "The Championship is going to be a tough challenge, we would be dreaming if we thought not, but the squad we already have in place to consolidate in the and with a couple of special additions if things go to plan to start with then who knows.

"This is a well-balanced squad that has been expanded and increased, so we have reasons to be optimistic." >>

So as I said then, best just saying nothing and letting the results judge what McCabe does. :)

do you class as "bullshit"?

I thought he said something about "a couple of special signings". Thanks for clearing that up Sothall, I was beginning to think I imagined it. I thought at the time that this could be a reference to Jags, or some other big hitter, but that's maybe reading too much into it tbf. Anyhow, I think we've already made more than two special signings and much as I'd like Jags back here it seems unlikely and I won't be upset if if doesn't happen. As long as we sign another good centre half, preferably one with some years ahead of him.

One who'll use his head rather than his hands.

If he says anything at all, each word is forensically examined and discussed to death. Any 'perhaps' or 'maybe' goes through the Big-Blade truth converter and automatically becomes a nailed on promise. This handily allows more shit to be chucked at McCabe further down the line.

If he keeps schtum, we get the usual moaners asking 'Why 'McCabe won't come out and tell us what is happening?'. This can lead to repeated cries of 'where did the semi final money go?'

To be honest mate it all sounds plausible but i'm merely trying to get the point across that I'd personally rather he said nothing and let his actions speak out on the pitch, which is where everything should be judged, not from soundbites.

Take my bullshit comment in any way you want, he has come out with a lot over the years which is why I don't tend to listen to him. Nothing personal 'btw', just how I like to judge things, actions speak louder than words so to speak.

It's not KM's job to tell us what's happening. I don't think anyone belives it is. The complaint in the past has been 'why don't the club tell us what's happening'. How often does Abramovich or Glazier do interviews? Who's the chairman of Saints? Or West Brom? There's absolutely no need for KM to say anything.

Unfortunately 6 years in division one and 'Europe in 5 years ' type comments are why many are very cynical.

True. It's good to have ambition but no one can predict the future with accuracy. I think we're in the best situation now since we left the Prem. good manager, good players, good footballing philosophy running throughout the entire club. We're on an upwards trajectory for the first time in nearly a decade.

We should leave it at that and see where it takes us. The target for this season should be top 10. That means any position from 1-10 btw, not 10. If we achieve that I'll be more than satisfied.
