Turned the corner?

Depends what you mean by a 'corner'. We aren't as bad as we were earlier in the season , so are no longer on the way down. Still think we'll be bottom 8 come may though. Lack of strikers goals really worries me

good point out of the bottom 4 , progress, wednesday 6 points adrift and overtaken by yeovil , one of the better days , and goals and lack of strikers being adressed by Nigel in January

Slowly turning the corner.

I really didn't expect us to get anything today but we kept them at bay for most of the match.

Hope you're right. Still means 5/6 vital games without a striker though. How many goals from open play have our strikers accumulated this season? Bet it's only about 3!

Rather bottom 8 , than bottom 4 that looked likely under DW2 , prefer promotion but that can wait till mr C gets his own men in . UTB .

lets re learn how to walk before we run , we started from possibly the lowest ebb in the clubs history , and give Nigel some small praise for lifting the gloom , and turning defeatist footballers ,back towards having a modicum of confidence, we seem to be held back by league 1 clubs scoring champions league quality goals against us , another screamer today

Give Cloughy some credit. Today was a great point. Can you imagine what the score would have been with Weir still in charge?
Little acorns and all that eh?
Be happy, could have been 0-4 a few weeks ago.

We're unbeaten in 4 games in all competitions. Been a while since we've done that. Add results from a (probable) cup win next week and a tough (but not as tough as today) game at home the week after and we could be unbeaten in 6, which as little as 6 weeks ago you'd be laughed out of the room for suggesting. We're also out of the bottom four for the first time since August. Onwards and (slowly, carefully but inevitably) upwards.

No, not with any certainty and neither can you. Unless you have some special machine that makes that sort of shit possible. How do we know sacking Weir was the catalyst for anything? Perhaps it was just coming right. Best stick to what we do know, we are moving in the right direction and hopefully we can get some quality in January.

I don't think we have completely turned the corner however I do think that Cloughy's back to basics approach along with everything else he is putting pack in is giving the lads a real lift and is putting the confidence factor back into them.

The first composed, professional performance for most of the game that I have seen all season. The game plan, approach and style of play put us in control and made one of the tables most in form teams look very average on their own patch.

Need more of the same before we can say that the corner has been turned but today was a huge step in the right direct. Consistently delivering more of the same will definitely see us round the corner and beyond.

You're in danger of sounding very Pinchyesque!;)

Once we have turned this corner what comes next? Another corner, a hill or a downhill section? I want to know.

Hopefully not relegation - I don't think Clough's remit for this season extends much beyond that.

I don't think all the blame can be put on the strikers as the service hasn't been great. It's not as if they're missing chance after chance each game. I think we have the players to give the service but so far they either haven't played or it hasn't gone quite right. Porter/miller have a good record together and by the looks of Murphy isn't nearly as bad up top as he is out wide.

Yes. Great win today.
Should we now be looking up & not over our shoulders now?

No we'll never know but I think it's safe to say that, after getting just 5 points out of a possible 30 (and getting us dumped out of the JPT and Capital One Cup), Weir wasn't about to get struck by a bolt of lightning (unless it was one that said 'Pack it in, son. This managerial lark isn't for you.')

Similarly, why are Derby on fire since NC left and SMcC came in? Was it building on the good work laid down by NC, or has McC hit on the alchemy/being in the right place/whatever it is that make some managers successful?

I suspect the latter. NC strikes me as a dour pragmatist (a bit like Billy Davis). In short, just what we needed after the Weir debacle.

And why are Everton suddenly playing with a panache not seen since the 'holy trinity' days? Was it building on the good work laid down by Moyes, or have they replaced this average water-treader with one of the truly dynamic and innovative managers in England? Know what I think!

After today i feel like we have gone round thee roundabout and turned left. Really improved lately.

The two reasons you suggest in each scenario aren't mutually exclusive. I'd say they're entirely complimentary.

Perhaps Derby were a bit previous in removing Clough , impatiently removing the man who had built the team doing so well,McClaren is benifitting from all of Nigels 3 years of toil with little /no backing, to saack him for losing at forest 1-0 was a bit knee jerk , its easy to be flamboyant and take credit after all the hard works been done . Im sure Martinez , as hes an honest guy I admire a lot , would admit hes taken over a very well built squad , and was lucky to get Lukaku whos finished the jigsaw

Another very well done to Young "Big ead"
Certainly turned said corner.

Great win yesterday - but our league position suggests we haven't turned the corner yet. The league performances have obviously been better than under Weir but have been mixed and there is still a lot of room for improvement. Our points haul over Christmas was disappointing given the 4 league games included games against three of the poorer teams in the division. We need to strengthen in the JTW - hopefully Clough and the Board still appreciate that.

With the big win yesterday its got to boost our confidence, and hopefully we will show it on the field in the upcoming league games.
