Julian Winter

Simon and Scott McCabe to spend less time at the club and concentrate on other UK and International business interests.

More talk of streamlining, youth development and working within football fairs new guidelines

You would think someone who wrote the press release guff would know something about SUFC.

Winter did not start out with us as a young professional. We signed him from Huddersfield in the summer of 89, but due to various injuries, he never player a league game before being released a couple of years later.

Good luck Julian. Tricky was getting circa £400k per annum in salary and pension payments so hope you've got yer sen a good deal.

What is this 'group'? I assume they are buggering off to work for Scarborough - thank god. Scarborough own plc so I suppose that is it. Why can't McCarthy and a finance bloke make sure that costs match expenditure and fair play rules are met. What do these lads do all day? Genuine question.

Having steered Watford narrowly away from Administration then over-seeing the club's sale, hmmmmmm.

Reading the OS sounds like he was out of work so he should be cheap.

On the plus side he's a football man...but it does increase the concern that McCabe has lost interest and wants the talent in the parts of his business that can make him money.

The vision for United seems very much about staying afloat until a buyer is found who has an interest in driving the club forward and that could be along time coming.

When you're cash strapped then more than ever the club needs commitment, innovation and dynamism. Has McCabe and his family got any of this left for United?

Rewind and that sounds exactly like Birch's remit. Similar background, similar job description, probably just paying him less than Birch.

Or in other words, will Winter sell me a season tickey for £150 next term?

Seriously though, good post Tunsy, know exactly what you mean - not that I'd associate the word talent with the McCabe family but granted if wedge = talent they must (or did) have somat - or is property speculation all luck? Who knows.

Probably just paying him less than £400k per annum? Yes - i think (and hope) that is a fair assumption Chimmy!!!!

Maybe should have some T-shirts produced for him. "Blades are for life, not just the Premiership"

It's a reverse takeover!

"When Winter comes, can spring be far behind?"

Didn't we palm him off to Charlton in Jan 09.

If Gerry Summers is still alives we could employ him along with Winter and Spring, then Princess Anne's daughter in law to get the full set....

A Watford persepctive

great appointment for your boys. Can't speak highly enough of this guy. Appears to have been ousted from our place because the new owner fancies he can do it all himself.... (ominous rumble of distant thunder)

In the last few years we have been run on a shoestring budget and yet played thrilling, exciting football, brought lots of kids through, and made sensible and profitable signings (Danny Graham, £500k inc bells and whsitles to 3.5m plus bells and whistles in two years, Buckley £200k to £1m in 18 months, etc etc etc). Mackay played a huge role. Winter just as large. Wish him well.

From what we've seen of that "telant", the rest of the business is welcome to them.
