Just a headsup: with brilliant forethought and planning, the powers that be have decided that buses should stop running on Boxing Day between 6 and 6:30pm (that is the time they ARRIVE at the destination, not the last departure! So the last time of many departures from town is around 5pm/5:30pm).

Trams are running until about 8ish, but if you don't live on a tram route ... you better have your running shoes on after the game!

Yes, it will be a taxi back to Deepcar for me. They usually run the 57, with a 5.30 departure from Pond St. This year, it is the Supertram Link bus, with a 5.30 departure from Middlewood. I'll be damned if I am leaving the match 20 minutes early to get that.

Given I'm only making this game due to the kindness of others , can we open this thread out so that we can match up people who could do with a lift to/from with people going in cars with a spare place in the spirit of Xmas type stuff?

Might be worth mentioning for those who hadn't thought of it: you can get a couple of "free" £10 journeys from Uber when you sign up. How far a tenner will get you in an Uber on Boxing Day is another question!

Great idea raul , I may have to get a taxi back to Kimberworth so might be on the lookout for sharers.

Bert will be going from Ecclesfield to The Lane then straight back to Lincoln after the game. There is one empty seat but they would need to be a short arse because there's very little leg room in the seat behind Bert.

With a little more forethought and planning we could have gone for a 2:00pm kick off, lets be right this has never happened before has it ?

I think we're staying out after the game so it'll be taxi/taxis back to Deepcar/Stocksbridge for us.

Get walking yer lazy sods! My grandad used to live on Shoreham Street but later moved to Frecheville and used to regale me with stories of walking to/from the Lane for Xmas/Boxing Day matches when there was no public transport. Sometimes in terrible weather. They didn't call them off cos there was some snow on the surrounding streets in them days!

My dad used to walk from Dronfield to Meadowhead and catch the tram from there

Living in the wilds at the wrong end of town we often used to walk home after the match, I don't remember there being buses on Boxing Day very often not all that long ago. It was a decent 6 mile or so walk and we could usually find a couple of hostelries open for a warm up

I live near Bramall Lane now but originally from Coal Aston. I moaned when the last match was called off (can't remember which) due to the health and safety nonsense. There was no snow on Bramall Lane I saw it with my own eyes. I know it's ok for me living nearby but if I still lived in Coal Aston and public transport wasn't running due to the weather but United said the pitch is ok so the match is on (I know the police probably wouldn't allow it anyway these days) I would put on appropriate clothing and footwear and get walking via a few pubs! Reckon it would be a good day out with a mate or two. I walked home from Sheff to Coal Aston after a few nights out in the past.

If anyone would like a piggy back, I'll be in the Beer Engine post match and will be heading towards Heeley and then Woodseats.

No charge, just lay off the Turkey tomorrow.

My dad used to live at Intake and he told the same stories of walking to and from the Lane for the festive games!

Are you passing Halfway?

I grew just off Sharrow Lane, and when my parents separated my dad moved to Woodhead Rd. All very handy for BDTBL - never had to worry about transport to the Lane, it's always been a 5/10 minute stroll. In days gone by I'd have one in the Cross Guns (now the derelict childcare centre on Sharrow Lane) before heading down to the Royal - now the Royal Apartments, by Highfield Library. If we were feeling energetic we'd then take a stroll down to the Earl. Not sure what that is not.

Might pop in the Hermitage, sorry, Beer Engine afterwards.
