Transfers where we saw them coming

Wayne Quinn. £800,000 from Newcastle, for whom he played a grand total of 11 games. They even loaned him back to us for a bit.
I vividly remember Wayne Quinn going to Newcastle. Bobby Robson said “he’s got a great left foot, and he’s English.”

John Ebrell sorted us out but that said we had Don Hutchinson who was sold at double what we bought him for and balanced the transfer money.

Weird suggestion. Hutchinson was quality for us. We sold him for a pittance, he went on to captain Everton, who sold him for £2.5 million to Sunderland. where he excelled, who then sold him for £5 million to West Ham (25 years ago, when those were relatively large fees). He spent most of his career after leaving us playing Prem football, and played regularly for Scotland (including scoring against England).

Everton/Kendall absolutely had our pants down with both those transfers, not the other way around.
