Transfer targets

I would say at least one maybe two strikers are glaring needs.

The loss of MGW will be very costly in the goals ‘for’ column imo 😬
We need that type of hybrid attacking player for certain to fill the hole left by MGW and Didzy but I’ve not necessarily categorised that as a striker as I’m not sure they are conventional strikers.

If we create chances I have full confidence in Billy and Brewster to score goals but we will lack depth.

Maybe use a loan on a striker that way we might get one without taking up a huge chunk of the budget.

I would say it's one of the stronger areas of the pitch. Sharp, Brewster, Ndiaye, Jebbo, Osula....for 2 places...and that's assuming Burke isnt around. We definitely need one more, whether that's an experienced player on loan or we take a flyer on a younger lad from the lower divisions im not sure.

Im hoping Ndiaye can step into MGWs role. A front 2 of Sharp/Brewster with Ndiaye in behind and McBurnie and the 2 young lads on the bench wouldnt be bad even before a reinforcement.

Fair enough, I just don’t think Osula or Jebbison are ready for this level just yet and both need a season long loan.
McBurnie isn’t the answer, whatever the question.
So that leaves Billy, Ndiaye and Brewster, which isn’t enough cover

It goes to show how difficult it is to identify targets though. If Jebbo had played a full season at Burton he would have ended up with say 15-16 goals and maybe more. If he wasnt already our player hes the type of player we might be targeting in the transfer market.

Although evidence says otherwise I'm not sure we can write McBurnie off yet and whatever we are stuck with him anyway!

Maybe there’s room for a target man in there but I’d be surprised if we find the budget for it after we’ve addressed glaring needs.

Would be looking at a loan move for Kieffer Moore for that role. True target man in every sense of the word.

Still think CW bought McBurnie as a target man and he really isn't if you look at his time at Barnsley and Swansea.

Moore would make lots of sense but you’re right we seem to be married to using Mcburnie like that.

In the last 5 seasons we have been in the EPL for 2 of them and the top half of the Championship for the other 3.

We must be doing something right, paying decent money and getting good players in. We have a playing squad worth £millions.

Will everyone stop panicking. There are professional people within our football club who will be doing their job behind the scenes. Our best players of the last few years weren't household names, they were good professional footballers. Henderson, MGW, McGoldrick, Egan, O'Connell, Bogle, Fleck, Norwood, Clarke, Jake Wright. Loads of them. Many of them borrowed, signed for nothing or for relatively small fees.

Please stop panicking and let the professionals do their jobs.

Surely Hecky knows that’s not the way to play McBurnie - he was the one who managed him at Barnsley when he first broke onto the scene

I’d hope so but we’ve yet to see evidence of a shift in approach. There were flashes towards the end of the season where he’d have good periods of link play within a game but then revert to type either later in the game or the next week. I think we might’ve just broken him at this point I’d like it to work but a clean break might be best for both parties especially with his contract entering it’s final year.

If Hecky wants 7 spots to be filled, including the use of internal options, then I'm thinking this may be done with limited use of the external market which in some cases makes sense in others will cause dismay:

1. GK - Davies - Davies remains
2. RCB - Uremovic/Goode - Likely external recruitment with the U23 graduates Lopata/Gordon being last resort and getting season long loans. It will be disappointing if we end up with no senior player here.
3. LCB - Davies - It was mentioned above but I can see Norrington-Davies being the back up to Robinson. We still have Stevens and Osborn who can compete with him for left wing back and that's not discounting Lowe.
4. CM - Hourihane - though not left footed this could be the route for Arblaster/Peck/Neal to have a strong pre-season though I do feel this will have to be the second external recruit.
5. CM - Berge - appreciate he hasn't gone yet but he's evolved more into the front three than of the main two. With three subs now I can see this being how Coulibaly finds a place as an athletic option as one of four senior central midfield options.
6. AM - Gibbs-White - Whether to replace Didzy or Gibbs-White, I do see another body being added here. N'Diaye is still young and can't shoulder everything so another body here is needed. If we failed, it could see Burke given a new chance in a role he played for Millwall (this is the dismay bit!)
AM/F - Dizdy - N'Diaye I can see being the one to step into Didzy's shoes which makes perfect sense as to the reasoning why he was let go.

Most active we'll be going for seven. I can potentially see as few as three incoming, one right sided centre back (could Goode get another go? Or maybe a younger perm), a central midfielder unless Arblaster and co really smash it preseason and at least one attack minded player; the lad Archer linked with Boro or Man City youths seem to fit the bill. Perhaps even a punt on Wallace or Lawrence.

I'd expect replacement signings if any senior players get poached.

Let's not hold our breath, though if we don't do much we really are kicking the can down the road as 12 months forward will see a lot of changes.

Has there been any news regarding the return of Brewster, Sharp, McBurnie and Bogle? If there are any complications, it'll obviously affect recruitment.

We have a lot of U23s that are around 20/21 years old, some need to be pushing for a first team squad place.

If we go into next season with a broadly similar squad but minus MGW, Berger and Didsy And with our stalwarts another year older I’d be surprised if we finished top half. A lot of our creativity and control would be gone, The manager needs backing, we’ve conceded too many poor goals this last season. I think a big rebuilding plan is needed, realistically in 24 months the only one of Wilders team who might still be around is Egan(if he isn’t keeping a PL bench warm). We need at least 3 and preferably 4 top Champ players to boost the ranks. A commanding central defender, two midfielders, an attacking one and an all rounder, a right wing back if we lose Baldock, maybe our Belgium boy can be one of the midfielders but if he’s not brought in now we need to get shot of him.

I interpret Hecky’s “getting deals done early” comment to mean that they are in the club for the start of pre-season so I’ll judge it then but I’m a bit worried that we’re missing targets already.

So much for getting most of our transfer business done before training started, as Hecky said he wanted (and rightly so). Fuck all done to improve the training ground either. The tinpot years are well and truly back.

If Michael Owen can be ready for a World Cup with England at 18 then I’m sure Osula & Jebbo can be ready at championship level

Not just Owen, what about Wayne Rooney, scoring screamers in the Premier League at 16? Or Pele winning the World Cup at 17?

You’re absolutely right, let’s get them both in 🤦🏻‍♂️

How long do we put off Jebbison and Osula being “ready” ? I think the latter is there now and perhaps both. Yes they have a lot to learn, but where better than around BS ?

Playing squad worth millions? Apart from Berge, who is gonna pay millions?

Will we hit any of our targets this window, or will we just keep popping off into the sand bags as per?

Betti's is becoming all talk again we are missing out on quality and it's our rivals who are improving

They aren’t good enough - yet

Apart from Sharp who among the rest is going to get you 10-15 goals a season? Brewster has possibilities,Mcburnie who knows, the young 'uns, need a few seasons to develop.

Biggest crowds in the division last year, recently in the PL and receiving parachute payments - but as usual we seem unable to compete with any of our rivals when it comes to transfers.

There is no way this team minus MGW and probably Berge will make top 6. In fact top half would be optimistic.
