Wigan have signed the following in January so far:
Yanic Wilschut
Reece Wabara
Dan Lavercombe
Danny Whitehead
Sam Morsy
Ryan Colclough
All under 25, all on their way up. All coming from smaller clubs or younger players who had been on loan
So far, Adkins has signed:
Sammon
Edgar
Sharp
Woolford
Hammond
None of these strike me as building for the future. Clough's policy was fairly similar.
There's been much talk of rebuilding over the last few years but we've done almost no rebuilding whatsoever. We should be looking to sign the kind of players Wigan have. Not going for players who are failing at a higher level.
I'm confused at what the club has been trying to do. The only explanation I can think of is that we're looking to do a cheap patch job instead of building a squad who can take us forward over the next few years.
