Trams suspended on Sunday?

Whatever did people do before Supertram ,it's coach taxi bus or it get it legged .
No excuses for them not putting them on after ,utter political and cultural disgrace
Read previous posts about bus services to Hillsborough on Derby day.
Plus in the past, before SAG started sticking their noses in,kick offs were at normal times, giving fans more time to get to the grounds.

Plus this highlights a lack of forethought and consideration in the planning decision.

Ie happy to write to the clubs about coaches and buses now implies no thought on alternatives was given before your letter of a few days before the game.

This issue about potential damage to trams has seemingly superceded the greater issue of potential damage to humans in the minds of these two.

The lack of swift egress after will lead to issues and expose innocent fans to be drawn into unpleasant situations and locations. The lack of overall planning for a safe day is extraordinary given the legacy of SYP and will inevitably be criticised in any subsequent review of why things went so wrong.

First question by some clever K.C. “So knowing there had been a violent history between some supporters you removed a means for safe swift egress for all and replaced it with no other means to get people away from potential and known past flashpoints quickly. Can you please show me the rationale for this policy decision explaining your risk assessment process”

Pathetic, Manchester does not suspend the metro on derby day.

A tad different. Going to United you're either needing to get off in Salford or the wrong side of the cricket ground and in either case you're no closer to Old Trafford than you are with BL and Sheffield station. Going the other way, there is nothing of note whatsoever near the Emptihad and as City fans need to take it as well, the vast majority think "fuck it walk" which is perfectly reasonable from Piccadilly.

After the occurrence with tram doors being forced as discussed earlier, considering the plan drawn up by some fuckwit at SYP and the fuckwit in charge praising that plan and lying about the reason, there is one positive in that SYP don’t have to worry about serious injury for anyone on an overcrowded and overheated tram arising from their ridiculous plan of action.

Wtf?!! I had to read this several times before my brain would accept that you're referring to a different United, other than Sheffield United, as "United"! 🤬

Plan you say
They have a plan ?
What plan ?

Star saying replacement bus service now available
Ah so the trams, which are far larger and more robust vehicles than buses can’t operate due to crowds blocking the road, but buses can? Surely any pig fans who were going to line/block the route of the tram, will just do the same for a bus, which is a far easier target.

Also, from a logistical standpoint, far fewer people can fit into a bus than a tram. So rather than the police have to watch say 5 trams. They’re now having to keep an eye out for 10+ buses?

But...the busses will be the same will they not.

Help me understand the logic
They will argue they don’t have to go down by Hillsborough corner without considering the fact that people can walk from there to Penistone Road, or whichever route the buses take.

It’s just shifting the focus of poor policing.

The crazy world of Oliver Copout eh, so he thinks it is a good idea to have a few thousand Unitedites making their way to the pig sty in dribs and drabs which will make it nigh on impossible to police. The last time such a decision was taken was the order to scatter an arctic convoy because a german battle cruiser wasn't in port in WW2. I'm sure SYP would or should be much happier to know where the majority of Unitedites will be rather than outbreaks of trouble in multiple places. I suspect it will be like the wild west going to and coming away from the sty.

Don't know if anyone on here reads it, but there's a thread on Sheffield Forum about the tram/transport situation, in which the very first reply manages to shoehorn in, not only a mention of Boxing Day, but also a mention of the attendance. In fact, just looking at it again now, prior to writing this post, I noticed that the very first 3 words are "Boxing Day 1979", and the very next word after that is the attendance:

Remember, this is not on a thread about past Steel City Derbies, or a general Steel City Derby thread, it's on a thread specifically about the transport situation for Sunday's match, and still, the very first three words, in the very first reply are about Boxing Day, and the very next word, in the very first reply, the attendance that day. 😂

And I've just noticed, reading further into the thread, that only four replies later the Boxing Day attendance has already been inflated from 49,309 to 50,000:

Never change, piggy wiggies 🐖🐖, never change! 😂😂

Link to thread, in case anyone wants to read it:

(There's both Blades and pigs on that thread, btw, and I note that none of the Blades have shoehorned in a reference to the much more recent Bouncing Day - but, hey, they're the classy ones, don't forget! 🤣🤣)

Response from Clive Betts office;

Thank you for your email regarding the removal of the tram service prior to Sundays Sheffield derby. The decision to remove the service has been taken by South Yorkshire Mayor, Oliver Coppard, who has responsibility for the Supertram network in Sheffield. The decision was taken based on police advice, following problems between both sets of supporters at previous derby games and at both grounds.

Mayor's statement on why trams will not run before Owls Vs Blades

Clive understands how frustrating this decision is, but it is a decision that has been taken on past occasions with other sets of fans, most notably Millwall. Clive is happy to write to both SUFC and SWFC to ask that they work to put on buses/coaches for the game and also work to ensure fan safety at the ground itself.

Regards
Wayne

The final sentence of the Mayor's statement:-

'Additionally, South Yorkshire Police is urging away fans to remain in their seats until the stadium is cleared.'

I doubt we'll have any choice in this and they should really add the exit gates won't be opened until home fans have dispersed. I remember a few years ago when we had the lower tier and I was trapped in the tunnel waiting for the gates to open - not pleasant.

So let me get this right . No trams because pig fans deliberately try and stop United fans from getting to the sty ( same as bouncing day) ! Why the F*** do we have a police force if they can’t keep public transportation running ! I give up countries gone 🥵
Still no statement from the Chief Constable on why they cannot police the streets , I'm sure they would not let fans block St Mary's Gate ????
