Reading only opened their training ground 4 years ago!!

I really wouldn’t be surprised if they dropped out of the league.
Less than a year ago Wilder was strongly linked to them. Instead he chose this basket case instead of bin fire of a club!

I’d love to know what their owner is up to. He’s says he’s potless and trying to sell. But it’s been going on for years, so could they have resorted to this measure earlier and stabilised the club for the medium term? Rather than drop through the divisions and get deeper in the mire...

It makes me worry about Princey’s approach to selling.
What happend to that John Madekski? Ex chairman. Weren't he a supporter? Surprised he's not tried to help if he is.

I drive past the site of the new training ground most days, so will be keeping a close eye out for signs of activity, spades in the ground etc.
Will it be like when Reg Brearley parked a couple of JCB’s on the John Street site and called it progress…..

He didn't have the means to sustain in modern football. He sold up to some Russian who sold to someone else who sold to the current one.

Plus he's in his 80s and the main money he made was back in the 90s!

Cheers BB.. I am talking 20 years ago I suppose. Just know when he was involved they were well run.

I wonder if that might help us with getting Cat 1 academy status? Reading currently have a Cat 1 academy, but doubt they'll be able to keep it having sold their training ground? Not sure how it works though, is it just a certain number of Cat 1 academies, or is the number unlimited as long as they meet the requirements?
Currently no cap on how many Cat 1 academies there can be, so won't make a difference in that regard.

I see Reading are selling their training ground to Wycombe. We should buy it instead and just fly up from White Waltham airport to Netherthorpe on match days in those little planes. Sorted.

Had an office opposite. Great location watching stunt pilots bezzing around every week.

If we dont move forward with the clubs infrastructure we will have what WEDNESDAYS got, a circus tent and a grossly over valued derelict stadium
maintenance is essential, good players like good facilities or they wont come

Seem to recall Bettis saying we’d get the keys to the site at Dore by the end of August. Hopefully some further announcements soon!

Wilder gave it a mention in his pre match interview when talking about the academy. Said it will take a long time I think but what that means who knows.

Bettis said once we get in it still will take a couple of seasons until it's opened once we have got it ready

I’ve heard there is an issue with the teams and organisations that will be displaced when United start the development at Dore. We have to find them adequate alternatives.

any plans for it being made public? Just heard about Villa’s training facility on Talksport, got me thinking how state of the art will ours be?

Something tells me the silence behind what would be obviously good news is because its not the Prince shaping the plans! I can't think of a good reason not to even do a mock up like we did with that building at Shirecliffe that never got built pre COVID

There's not many teams displaced.

Hsbc were down to a single team, the over 45s. Terrible for a club that once had about 8

Plus, it is private land, so I can't see how there would be an obligation on Sheffield United, to resolve something that HSBC has caused (by selling the land).
There is no legal obligation on SUFC to resolve this, however there have been discussions between SUFC, SCC and some of the junior football clubs that used the facility prior to it being purchased to see if anything can be done/found. I imagine it's more a 'moral' issue for Utd as it has massively impacted grass roots, community football clubs. I know one or two options are under consideration.

A moral issue wouldn’t stop us taking control of the site though. A resolution could work in parallel.

No of course not. I was merely commenting on the 'no obligation for utd to resolve' bit, which I agreed with but pointed out that discussions are taking place.

Still nothing from the club. Despite it allegedly now being in our control.

I wonder if any of the supposed journalists from The Star, or Radio Sheffield, want to ask for an update and when we can expect to hear what the plans are and timescales?

Cut em some slack, the owners are in different timezones.

It'll take years. When Bettis said 2 years my first thought was that's overly ambitious and making a rod for his own back. I would imagine its also dependent on PL money
