I'm planning on going to and from the match via train but I'm a bit worried about the train schedule.

There's one train that departs from Nottingham at 21:43 (Is this do-able?)

If that train isn't viable then I'd have to wait for one much later which doesn't end up getting into Sheffield until about 01:43...

Anyone else having similar thoughts or can anyone ease my hesitancy to book the tickets by letting me know if the 21:43 train will be safe enough to catch in time?

Thanks in advance,
Dec.

Not unless you leave the ground a few minutes early. It's a fair old walk back to the station.

Most games with a 19.45pm start finish around 21.35 to 21-40.

You haven't a hope in hell of catching the 21.43 train. unless you leave early.

You wont make it! The station is a good 10 minutes away and that's a fast walk/jog. The game will finish, (conservatively) at 9.35 and then you and 5,000 fellow Blades have to get out of the ground, in reality the game wont finsih until closer to 9.40 and you would be lucky to get to the station by 10pm.

So either leave early...(depends if we are getting dicked I suppose).... or gerrin t'boozer for a couple of hours.

Ah... that's a bastard. Cheers for the replies anyway.

You'd think the train service would organise it so a train is available for the away fans. I'm sure that I'm not the only one inconvenienced by this.

Nah, they should rethink their schedules so that there is always a train that is convenient for away fans traveling to Sheffield after a night match.

I sense sarcasm in your post dkc so I will address this to the two of you:

More passengers, more money. They should plan better...

Have to agree with you. There would be a few hundred extra train tickets sold to United fans by the train company if they moved the train time to, say 10pm which one would think would far outweigh the number of other punters (probably small anyway) who would not get it as a result of being 17 minutes later.

The issue being that train timetables are incredibly convoluted and moving that one train by 17 minutes could have major knock-on effects: it's probably scheduled for 43 mins past the hour to ensure it doesn't get stuck behind a stopping service or a freight train.

Well when they privatise the network so that entrepreneurs can take advantage of these oppor.....oh

Fair enough.

Or instead of hammering the train company for not putting the back by 15 minutes, prehaps United and Notts Co could look at themselves and ask why they can't move it to a 7.30 kick off to allow the fans time to get back for the 21:43.

Good point. When was it and why that evening kick offs were moved to 7.45. It was 7.30 when I was a lad.

I remember it changing (early '90s?) and being told it because the TV companies preferred it (7:30 a bit early for decent viewing figures for the build up). I don't know whether that was true but a Google search on the subject seems to reveal that to be the popular view.

Coincidentally there's a discussion about it on the "Notts County Mad" forum in relation to tonight's game.
