The brains at the F.A were told to avoid doing this on Saturday. They clearly know better.

Loads of students arrive Saturday. Last time this happened there was massive congestion around the ground due to parents bringing them to Sheffield and the vast amount of student accommodation around the ground particularly at the Bramall Lane/London Road end. It can be bad normally but I remember last time the spread of the congestion was enormous.

I tend to leave early anyway - but I am adding an extra 15 minutes this time.

Might give it a miss, last time it took 1hr 25 mins from parkway to car park, got to game at 3.40!, whoever runs the organising department within the SYP and Sheffield council wants sacking, what with this and remembrance Sunday, planner must be an owl! 😡

FFS. Normally I drive and park just off Granville Road so I can get a quick getaway after the match, but my Mrs wants to go shopping, so I aim to park in Sidney Street. What will it be like around noon, folks, based on previous experience?

Or can somebody recommend a city centre car park that won't cost me an arm and a leg?

No it will still be Armageddon weekend.
Parents still trying to escape Sheffield because they can't follow road markings or road signs with bloody arrows on.
Shaun of the dead outgoings

"Oh god we're trapped on Bramall lane....."
"Help us please anyone........"

" Heeeee heeee....heeeee.... kidney punching you time blades"

Note sure if it's uni specific but Leeds uni is definitely the weekend coming up. So OP could still be correct.

Sure i read somewhere that student armageddon was the weekend that has just gone.

Orientation for the Uni is 16th to 20th.
It was, especially around the Lane (for Hallam). I was down around John Street/Denby Street Saturday morning, having not realised and it was chaos.

You can park in the collage for a fiver?

I’m reliably informed that Hallam University was last weekend. However Sheffield Uni is over Sat 22 and Sun 23. I’m attempting to move my daughter in and then get to the match.

This is correct. Welcome Week for Hallam students is this week, and for Uni of students it's next week. It was busy last weekend and is likely to be busy again the coming weekend.

Have a think about the trains saturday
On sheffield Station!
2,500 derby coming up , me included .
2,500 Birmingham coming up to Rotherham and changing at sheffield .
More than likely before and after the games both lots will be on same platforms and trains .
Barnsley 1,200 to Burton I'm told will be changing at aheffield buy on previous trips barnsley have drank in derby .
The transport police will have a very busy day .

I`m sure this was brought up last year and there was never any issue.

Mind you Hallam’s digs near the lane so at least it won’t be as busy

When I was at Sheffield University (in a very different world) the week before term in September was called Intro Week - for signing up to Societies, settling in, winning yard of ale etc.

A couple of years on, and a leaflet came round - “Remember to come back early for FAFFY Week.” On further enquiry it turned out to mean Fuck A Friendly First Year”!

I'm of the same era and I remember it being called 'Fresher's week'. I had to travel by train from Harrogate via Leeds to Sheffield where I caught a No 60 bus up to Ranmoor House carrying possessions in a suitcase. I suppose we were a bit molly coddled in that we were fed and watered in a hall of residence. I don't remember many people arriving by car - but it was a long time ago so memories are a bit vague.
Don't remember it being referred to as FAFFY but I do remember yard of ale contests - it used to be a thing amongst the lacrosse players who drank in the Broomhill Tavern
