A lot has been said about our performances against better teams - flat track bullies etc - but in reality, we're doing about as well as any of the others. This being the case, then it is keeping our performances against the lower teams very high that will make the biggest difference come May.

Cheers for that, i'll pop it across to my piggy mate later, because that's his argument of why we're doing well, just for a giggle

I know his response will be "yeah but they won't all be there at the end of the season" Which misses the point completely...

It’s much easier to predict failure than success tell him. Ask him who definitely WILL be there at the end of the season? Any idiot can speculate what won’t happen and get it pretty much right. But it’s being able to predict what will happen that’s the tricky bit.

All I know is, we’re doing well and better than expected given the resources we have.

Wednesday meanwhile? :D

Ha ha yeah i don't tend to focus on their position, because we all know that its a false high for them, i just say that i think they'll stay up and that my prediction of 15th for them is still about right

Yeah but that's wrong. Norwich were bottom 3 when we played them. And we were taught a lesson by Swansea who get a notable mention despite not being a top team. Just ask Wednesday fans.

There's a full thread over on pork talk explaining we were top because we had the easiest games. I think it is lost on porcine brains that if you're top, everybody is below you, hence the games are 'easier'.

Really interesting, cheers for putting that together.

The “only beaten bottom half teams” argument is totally illogical. If you beat 12 ‘lesser’ teams home and away that’s 72 points. Your well on your way to the play offs. Winning the tougher games to top of that is what puts you in the top 2, which realistically, we won’t be likely to get. We’re after 6th spot along with 5 or 6 other teams.

Can't be right, I've been repeatedly assured that every other team in the top 6 is better at beating teams in the top 6 than we are

Couldn’t care less how we perform against the top teams.
It always makes me laugh when fans might be bragging that they’ve beaten all the top 5
But they fail to tell you that they keep losing to the bottom 5.

In this league no team can be underestimated and beating teams near the bottom is suprisingly tough

Suppose having a great record against the top teams only becomes relevant towards the end of the season when you’re trying to judge who might win the play-offs.

Not forgetting we battered Villa, who should be a top 6 side.

Don't care who we beat as long as we get points on that board, every 3 points are vital

The fact that we are even competing with the top 6 teams like big spending frank lampard derby is a footballing miracle and people need to never forget that
To get this squad of players in contention for the play offs is an amazing achievement and if we all remember that and shake off this misguided sense of piggy like entitlement we seem to have picked up from somewhere the sooner we get back to being a United club where opposition teams dread stepping foot

Fanny allus makes sense

the way I see us is like northern Ireland, team of underdogs that have defied expectations. the way the qualified for the euros was that they beat all the minnows & they tried to hang on v the teams that were better than them. I still think prediction of 5th this season is probally about right. but the fact that (in nice possible way) this bunch of misfits barring egan are joint top of the league is incredible. similar to burnley miracle 7th finish last season no-one talked about that excluding the opening day of the season v top 6 they were P11 W0 D3 L8

Walsall had the accolade of being the 100 point blades 3!!! times during that season, twice at the Lane.

They still ended up bottom half of the table, but it made a cool story.

Really was random that. A bogey side if ever there was one.

If we lose every game to the top six but win every other game then we’ll get 108 points and be crowned champions.

Just tell them thick fuckers over in S6 that if they pipe up with their usual bollocks. They still won’t get it. :)

Actually think it's harder when your top teams love to beat the pace setters it's harder but a team in form ( top ) usually comes out on top.
The energy we put into a game is outstanding,at times last night stoke were hanging on for grim death all credit to them for getting a point but some our football was breathtaking.
The game reminded me of the scunnie game when some how they went away with a point, could we be in for a similar season ? The signs are good.
Will need some fresh legs in January as our two fullbacks amongst others work there bollocks off.
The team has reached new levels this season. although we only drew it was great to watch.
